Stiles did not exactly plan this out so much as decide to buy a couple ice cream cakes on the way home from work at the same place he got his birthday cake from because sure, why not? Everyone should get to have an actual cake on or around their birthday, and apparently Peter's hurting for calories. He even gets one of them inscribed with HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETER (and the other with OVER THE HILL because he's an asshole and he freely acknowledges this).
Why he feels like he should be bringing this through Peter's window is also kind of a mystery, given that there's a perfectly good front door and while it's kinda late in the evening, it's not actually late. And yet. There's a possibility he'd be able to scale the wall of Peter's house with some effort, but not while carrying two boxes of cake, so instead he ends up tossing pebbles at Peter's window because again sure, why not.

It's his first birthday away from home. Which is extra super-weird because it wasn't, actually, all that close to his birthday at home, so even though he's kind of seventeen now according to number of April 8ths he's lived through, he's also basically still sixteen in terms of like - actual amount of time he's lived.
Time travel is just weird.
It feels dumb to celebrate it like it's a birthday, but he also feels kind of shitty not doing anything about it, so he compromises by buying a Budgie the Narwhal ice cream cake on the way home from work.
