[ Balancing a civilian life alongside a superhero one is no easy feat, but Peej learned a long time ago that there is no easier way to manage it; it's a commitment you either make or don't, end of story. It also means that there are times you need to uncurl your fists and put your hands to use in a different way. Punching things doesn't necessarily solve all problems.
She's managed to squeeze some time in her schedule to focus on the much needed clean-up in Heropa. Property damage in De Chima was nothing compared to what Heropa had gone through throughout February, so Peej is over by what used to be the imPort prison this early afternoon, assisting other volunteers and city workers in clearing out the rubble so that they can continue repairing the building without so much concrete and metal in their way.
The locals don't bother her much, assuming she needs to maintain her focus so she doesn't wind up dropping the large, steel pillar above her head on herself or someone else. They do grow curious when they see her walking over to one of their more younger volunteers, but ultimately leave her be.
Peej is surprised to see Hime here and slightly concerned with the amount of heavy rubble laying around, not to mention the warnings that whatever is left of the prison is mostly unstable. ]
Don't pull a muscle now.
[ She says from behind, a large shadow stretching over Hime's. ]
no subject
Smooth move, Princess.
Thankfully, she's still holding onto the rubble as she spins around and gives Peej a weak smile. ] Don't worry! I've got super strength, I'll be fine.
[ and then, she....flexes nonexistent muscles. You go girl. ]
OH NO disregard any familiarity if she's not supposed to recognize hime
[ She didn't mean to startle her, so she takes a few steps back to give the girl some space. The metal pillar hovers above her head, steady in her superpowered grip. The way she handles it she may as well be carrying a pillow in her hands instead of something that weighs hundreds of pounds. ]
Are you sure? There's a lot of heavy objects that might fall around here. You can ask one of the workers for a helmet.
DUDE DON'T WORRY she can put two and two together
Can you teach me to be as strong as you are?
i'm not sure how i missed the different hair colours sob
What?

[ Since the Fanport disaster which resulted in her entire booth being removed from the con, Karen Starr has had to appease a number of angry con goers by paying for their hospital and clinic bills, and sometimes making a direct apology. The incident has put Starrware in a less positive light, so she has a lot of damage control to do.
This is probably why she needs to hire someone to do PR for them. Maybe when her bank account stops crying.
The last known ankle victim had actually come from Nonah, so she flew over, made a stop at his house and apologized and was promptly asked to leave afterwards. It's a little disheartening, but what can she do?
It's when she's sitting atop a building, debating on whether or not she wants to grab something to eat before heading back to De Chima and hidden away from most that she catches sight of a familiar face on the opposite street. She hops off the edge and floats down toward Kristoff, waving to catch his attention. Given how long it's been since they've spoken, she actually could use a friendly distraction right about now. ]
Hey, Kris. So this is where you've been?
no subject
Hey! Kar-- [ Wait. Was he still supposed to call her something different while she was busy flying around and being extra-human? Did this count as one of those times? He tries to amend himself either way. ] Carrots. Carrots are on sale. I just bought a bunch. [ It's a decent cover-up, okay? He's holding his latest round of grocery bags and everything, walking home from a short shopping trip.
Be that as it may, it's still an awkward hello. He goes back to answering the question put before him. ] Yeah, I-- I guess I left again? When I came back, they put me up here instead of in Florida.
Doing alright?
no subject
Alright enough.
[ It's not a lie; she could be doing better.
Her toes dip forward first, then she plants both feet properly onto the sidewalk. ]
I kind of wonder why. How you liking it up here? The weather must be a nice change.
no subject
He lets it slip past, then, and instead shrugs about North Carolina, nods about the weather. ] Yeah. It's a little more mild. There's actually scenery nearby, too, mountains and woods and stuff. It's nice.
[ His job and a couple of his roommates still left something to be desired, but whatever. ]

( for ted kord | 3/18 )
[ Ted has recently mentioned to Peej he's been working out of a warehouse provided by Bruce Wayne ― of all people. She did lift a brow hearing that this Bruce, that they barely know, did something that generous for a man he also doesn't know... unless someone's slipped it to him what happens to Ted in their world and how Booster blamed Bruce for it.
But that's not something she wants to get into. Peej hasn't had the time to visit her old friend and having an unstable existence in this world means she should take advantage of whatever limited time they do have. She misses Ted back home a lot at times, harboring some guilt for how her last words to him had been dismissive. Maybe if she had taken his concerns seriously things would have been different. Maybe. Though she manages to push down these disconcerting thoughts and feelings, they're always stewing in the back of her mind somewhere when she's face-to-face with him.
And right now, she needs to focus on the present and what she's afforded in this world, and not the past. ]
Knock knock.
[ She could probably open the warehouse door that she stands in front of herself, but she'll wait for Ted to invite her in. ]
no subject
In any case, this is one of the few times he's not hiding under the engine of the Bug or attempting to flail his way out of his papers, so he makes it to the door relatively easily.]
Hey, Peej! What's up?
no subject
Wanted to see what you've been up to. And your secret warehouse.
[ Glancing up and down the walls, she realizes she has to ask: ] Is it a secret? I actually can't remember.
no subject
[There's a shrug.]/ Kind of? I mean, I don't mind if people know, but Bruce might.

( for shiro iori | 3/19 )
[ A small sigh escapes Karen, her shoulders sagging.
She stands in the middle of a large and renowned fabric store (multiple five star comments online!), looking somewhat uncertain at all the fabrics surrounding her. The reality is it's not so much the fabrics as it is the constant damage her costume takes. It occurs to her, like Booster said, she's going to need quite a number of spares. Back home that had never been an issue; they had the equipment to do instant repairs and if she couldn't get to the Brownstone or the All-Stars ranch, she could use the machine at Starrware.
To her left is a row of sewing machines, arranged from most popular to least. Some of them have been used, though they appear to be in excellent condition.
Alright, fabric first and then she'll take a better look at the machines. Grabbing a basket, she heads down the aisle, grabbing pre-cut red fabrics from a shelf. In fact, she grabs multiples.
Enthusiastic cosplay or someone who really likes red? You decide. ]
no subject
Which goes to say the red from the corner of his eye pulls Iori's attention, his own clothing more casual, still favoring blacks. Black pants, black shoes, a black shirt, a diamond cardigan over it all. He still prefers to wear his orange face mask, so that much is in evidence, while his hair is back in a ponytail with his ridiculous bangs wafting gently in a breeze to either side of his face.
He'd been looking over the machines here (thinking about what it is he has to work with given the parameters he's working within at the moment) when the woman with red fabric catches his attention. He pauses, blinking when he realizes she isn't as complete a stranger as he expected.
The convention he'd gone to as a sort of getting a finger on the pulse of imPort-American affairs... hmm.
he moves down a different aisle, mostly due to a lack of pedestrian traffic, passing by a row of pink fabrics in solids, stripes, and prints, making mental note of one in the shades that Nonon preferred. He cuts back over, switching direction, waiting until he sees Karen looking up to raise a hand, a sort of neutral gesture, all fingers locked together. At any sort of acknowledgement, he'll let his hand drop back down, finding its way to casually rest in his pocket, just like his other hand. ]
Forgive me if I'm mistaken... were you involved with the armed robot incident the other weekend at the convention in Florida?
[ And also: hello. At least he looks serious for someone who's asking... which might not be much of an at least. ]
no subject
She's only gone for a few seconds before she returns, her eyes falling on the young man. She might be steel-skinned, though the way he phrases his question is almost scathing. A part of her flinches reflexively — it's painful to consider how much that incident has ruined Starrware's image for the time being. ]
... yes. Unfortunately, I was present when someone decided to weaponize a roomba.
[ Minho. ]
no subject
Regardless, her reaction tells him some of how and why things ended as they did at that point. ]
Which was an interesting display of sorts, before it went around unchaperoned.
[ Then it changed the kind of interesting it was. He frowns, giving a shake of his head. It looks more exaggerated than it is, his hair still acting like it's caught in a low level fan's trajectory. ]
It was also unfortunate that it cut your time at the convention short. Trying to get a sense of what imPort run businesses are out there is more difficult when they're spread out through the cities as they usually seem to be.
[ Which he means on both counts; really, given how he didn't Register, he knows he's living on borrowed property for the moment. At least he's technically doing contract work... thanks to fast thinking and an actual need with the environmental activist group he'd been "hired" into by the government. His attention gets pulled toward the array of reds in her cart again. ]
Were you looking for a particular shade, or a particular fabric?
[ Or, at that point, a particular weave. ]

[ Ugh, tentacles.
Why does it always have to be tentacles?
At first she had only catches a glimpse of strange movement from below, but upon closer inspection she witnesses a young woman in apparent distress. Something black and elongated stretches from seemingly nowhere, surrounding the young woman and she doesn't appear to be having an easy time ridding herself of them.
Peej cuts through the air, diving towards the young woman and when she's close enough, wraps her arms around her waist to yank her away from the outstretched... whatever they're supposed to be. ]
Got you.
no subject
That is pretty much her mental process in response to weird creepy hands bursting out of the ground and getting all tentacle-style, and to get hauled into the air. The air, dude )
Yeah, you really do!
( Not quite as no, no this is totally fine as she might have wanted to sound before All The Things happened, but there's more humour in it than terror. )
This is awesome.
( Okay, she didn't mean to say that part out loud. But flying is pretty awesome. )
no subject
What the...? Where did they go?
[ She might overworked, but she's not imagining things, is she? The young woman doesn't seem exactly distressed anymore, though... ]
no subject
This is very, very weird. )
Yeah, they-- ( Hmm. She clears her throat, and maybe now embarrassment is creeping in. ) I, uh, I was trying to figure out my powers. Apparently they're this places answer to "what do you get the girl who has everything?"
( Seriously, her life. Trying to look at the person keeping hold of her, she adds:) Thanks for the rescue.

( for john watson | 3/23 )
[ After a quick change in the women's bathroom in a nearby cafe, Peej emerges as Karen Starr, her uniform tucked away in her bag and heads out in search of John Watson's apartment. She doesn't want to attract any more attention than she has already flying around in costume, so she sticks with her civilian wear, appropriate for Flordian weather; a salmon pink blouse and dark blue khakis.
When she arrives by the apartment, she doesn't knock immediately. She's still feeling rather awkward and embarrassed about John linking her to Power Girl, although the power nullifiers in Charlevoix had not helped. There's no doubt in her John can keep a secret, though it's still a situation she wishes she could have avoided.
Flicking her hair behind her ears, she raps on the door lightly. ]
no subject
but after what happened with mary and cam, john does understand the need for secret identities. there's no doubt that he'll keep her secret. so when he opens the door and finds karen standing outside on his doorstep, he's a little taken aback and drops the empty duffel bag in his hand. ]
Karen! Hi, good afternoon. What brings you here today?
[ ask an obvious question, get an obvious answer. ]
no subject
Heya, I know I should've called first...
[ She makes no motion to step inside or away from the door. ]
Have you got a few minutes? I wanted to talk with you.
[ In private is implied from her sheepish expression alone. ]
no subject
[ he pulls a face, clearing regarding the whole thing as a chore. back on the topic on hand, he rubs the back of his neck. ]
Uh, yeah, no problem. I'm free. Mary's popped out for a bit if you want to come in. [ a beat ] Unless you've got somewhere else you want to... talk. I don't know when she's coming back.
