[ It doesn't come as the biggest surprise; it seems most imPorts keep their homes as uncluttered as possible. Truth be told, while she likes to spruce up her current living arrangement just so she isn't staring at empty, white spaces for too long she does avoid making too many home decor purchases. If she ever got ported out it would suck to lose a lot of those items. ]

[ Her fingers slide over the back of her head, pushing strands of hair upwards before they trickle out of her grip, settling back into place. ]

How did you find out in Charlevoix?

I saw you while you were, uh, fighting.

[ fighting. that's a polite term to describe what he witnessed in charlevoix. not many people take on a hive of angry hornets and then walk away without so much as a blemish. john had his own reason to be there – good old fashioned vengeance against the people who jabbed him too many times – but that particular road has always been mired in complications and he walked away with more than he bargained for. ]

It was really quite amazing. I've never seen anything like it. You know, apart from the films. But yeah, you had already handled those guys before I could take aim.

[ Truth be told, with her powers shut off at the beginning she had to power through multiple injuries and fractures she normally doesn't ever have to deal with on a regular basis. Her pain threshold is much higher than any human's, but because of their nullifiers, the pain that would be somewhat tolerable to some was less than that for her.

Then she got smashed into the pavement by a big, green monster with anger management issues. That wasn't fun. ]

But thanks. I was not in the best shape for that because of the nullifiers. I should have expected the Hornets would be somewhat prepared.

[ it's a wise choice to neglect mentioning those details. otherwise karen would have to put up with a telling-off. super-human or not, no one is safe from receiving a dressing down from their doctor. occasionally though, john misses certain things (like his best friend's attempted murder, his wife's pregnancy to name but a few examples) and he didn't notice anything that could suggest pre-existing injuries in charlevoix. ]

Well, those guys have always fought dirty. I should know; one of them clocked me pretty hard back in Maine.

[ hence his thirst for vengeance. ]

Anyway, they had a rubbish name – Hornets. They can't hurt anyone now. They're in the best place.

I hope so. I'll never agree with their methods, but it sounds like some of them were hurt by us in the past.

[ In all the shouting back then, even without super hearing, she could hear them screaming about imPorts ruining everything. There had been such a force behind their proclamations it's hard not to wonder where they've messed up along the road here. The Hornets had their reasons for doing what they did. ]

I just hope it's all over. Charlevoix was a nightmare in terms of coordination.
