[ Nnnnope only aware he'd been going on when she finally cuts him off. He looks disgruntled... but to be fair, that's how he looked beforehand, so it's a sum gain of absolutely nothing. ]

It was strictly devoted to sewing. [ And weaving and research but that, too, was related to sewing, so... details. ] Homemaking was a different club. There was crossover between them and the Culinary Club, among others.

[ Particularly during the overabundant club phase. ]

[ She's beginning to wonder just how many clubs his high school has or had while had attended. The surprise is evident in her eyes. ]

That's surprising... but good, I guess? That the school could provide funding for a specific club like that.

[ Welcome to obscene amounts of money in a dictator school and not so arbitrary decisions that allow mass pruning of a student army... ah, Honnouji life. ]

Honnouji Academy was accommodating in that regard, as long as you followed the rules for such things and kept up with demands.

[ Then you learn the Sewing Club president absolutely never went to the council meetings for all the heads of the clubs. #welp, at least no one was going to call him on it ]

[ Her pronunciation is surprisingly good for an American woman who's presumably never been overseas or studied other languages. It's not perfect, but the glint of familiarity in her eyes reveals she's heard the school name before.

And had a dream about it once? It was weird and Inumuta was there.

[ He looks a little surprised - first it would be the note of recognition in Karen's voice, but after that, it's the familiarity of her using Inumuta's first name. He'd mentioned making closer bonds while he was here, but hadn't mentioned Karen's name yet. ]

... Yes, I am one of Inumuta's friends. Should I take it that you are one of them too?

[ Then again, this is America, and it's not as if Karen can't be American by nationality... Iori won't claim to know that. Americans do tend to cut straight to using given names over surnames. It's still jarring. ]

[ She genuinely doesn't know what she and Inumuta are supposed to be. 'Acquaintances' somehow still has a certain too-close-to-be-true ring to it. ]

[ He notes the past tense... and yeah. Likely she's from a Western culture to be holding with a given name when there's no claimed close relationship. ]

Senketsu, Uzu... the little pink-haired girl was here for a while. Satsuki and Ryuuko, too.

[ She had been fond of Senketsu and Sanageyama. It's a shame she didn't get to know the others well enough. ]

Jakuzure. [ He supplies the name automatically, though again, it's a surname. ] Most the Devas, and Lady Satsuki. Matoi and Senketsu aren't so surprising...

[ Not after knowing the rest, he means. That meant Karen got to see Senketsu's humanoid form. That fascinating reality. He looks back up at her. ]

Little wonder you would know Inumuta as well.

[ A quiet, amusing huff escapes her. ]

He's an elected imPort Ambassador now for Nonah. I actually cast my vote for the guy; he seems like he's got a good head on shoulders. He could lower the volume down a notch or two.

[ Generally, her impression of the Honnouji is they are well-meaning, but incredibly weird people. Must be on par the course when you come from a world where clothes are sentient aliens. ]

Like I said, Houka and I aren't close anyway.

[ All things Shiro knows, but he merely nods his head politely, taking in Karen's words. ]

It served him well at the Academy. He's naturally boisterous... and dedicated to maintaining order in at times chaotic landscapes.

[ Satsuki's shield. As for being weird people... yes. Definitely so. And knowing what their world encompasses, she's now talking to someone who regularly worked with those sentient clothes, or more often, the alien fibers themselves as woven into the fabric of clothing in uniforms he was responsible for designing. In other words... yet another weirdo. ]

I see. He doesn't make himself easy to know.

[ Says someone who considers him one of if not his best friend and is currently attending college with him #yolo ]

[ She lifts both shoulders in a nonchalant "what can you do" fashion, jostling her basket just a tad. ]

It's nice to meet another friend of Senketsu's. Sorry that you missed him a while back. Ryuuko was somewhere around a month or so ago.

[ Please... please have pity on the poor fool, for he knows not what he does, Karen... ]

From what I understand, Matoi has also recently returned home. I lament missing the chance to speak with Senketsu in person. It would have been a unique opportunity - the kamui weren't generally heard by anyone on our world. Matoi and Senketsu's relationship was largely unique.

I heard something about that. It was definitely something to process, what with... alien fabric and all.

[ Her attention trails to the shelves once more, moving down the aisle in search of pre-cut white fabrics now. She knows she had seen it earlier when she began roaming the store. ]

It was exciting for him to have a humanoid form. Probably would have shown off, too.

Life fibers are closer to threads, really. The percentage of them woven into different fabrics had a... range of effects on things, but for the most part, they was inert and stitched in instead of comprising the entirety of any fabric.

[ ... Iori ends up keeping pace, indirectly watching Karen instead of scanning the shelves for himself. He already knew what his interests were here. Right now, he's continuing to converse until he hears a dismissal. ]

It would have been an interesting development for both him and Matoi.

[ It's not too long before she finds what's left of the white fabric. She carefully picks one out, checking it closely for any loose threads before depositing it into her basket.

Then she grabs another one. ]

They sounded pretty dangerous from what Uzu and Senketsu had told me. Alien invasion...

[ She rolls her eyes remembering that. ]

Seems like some things don't change across the universe.

[ What an interesting sweater-pancho you're designing, Karen.

For his part, Iori shrugs, watching her pick out fabrics with... a kind of curious abandon. ]

They were incredibly dangerous. Their function was parasitic. Infect a host, multiply, then kill the host to help spread them further through the universe.

[ Standard parasite behavior for ones that attack and kill host bodies. ]

You had your own alien invasion to contend with?

[ Quite clearly she's trying to recreate something similar to this. ]

Where I'm from we've had a number of invasions. Maybe more we don't know about. Aliens are just sort of normal.

[ She says with little to no inflection, like she isn't from another planet herself. ]

Then you've got your villain of the week, gang of petty criminals, genetically engineered animals, etc. Something is always going on, whether you're in Manhattan or Metropolis.

Sounds like living in a comic book.

[ Even more so than a manga, though there are anime more episodic like that... and he's nerd enough that this is the way he draws parallels. We're so sorry, Karen. ]

Is it worldwide, or primarily focused in the United States? Presuming Metropolis is an American city where you're from... Manhattan is, on my world.

They actually make comics about our superheroes. Plus merchandise.

There are superheroes around the world. I... guess we have the highest concentration? I'm not sure if you've noticed, but our news is very American-focused so worldwide news can slip us.

There are a few cities that don't exist here. Gotham, Metropolis, Star City...

[ Iori is so... different in comparison to the other Honnouji students. They were a spirited bunch and it often showed when holding a conversation with them. Iori is polite and poised with his responses. ]

[ She just hasn't seen him worked up - it's easy to seem less spirited when he really doesn't need to be hitting those notes of seriously invested fellow student or calling out direction and handling the details of his own work and pursuits.

Everyone at his school knew the worth in being able to yell when they needed. For... some reason. ]

The start of the month, and well enough, thank you. Being in the United States is an adjustment. The different context of world events has been more fascinating than anything else.
