[ Sarah watches, less suspiciously than Alison, but that's not saying much, as her clone goes and opens the door. When she sees who's on the other side, she gets up from the couch and goes to the door herself. ]

Chloe, what are you doing here?

[ Judging by the look on Chloe's face, she's not sure she wants to hear the answer. ]

[Chloe started to answer the same way she had Alison, but Sarah was...different? Was it strange for Sarah to be different after only a few weeks? But she was, and the empty explanation just kind of stalls out as the memories of yesterday came flooding back and she just kind of sighed.]

...They set off some kind of taser in my brain when I didn't show up. [Her voice was quiet, none of that usual fire there. Not even a curse. And she looked around the apartment instead of at Sarah. What a lovely carpet.] And I just...I couldn't go back.

Hey.

[ Without thinking about it, Sarah pulls Chloe into a hug. She's a surprisingly good hugger for someone who's always walking around in leather pants. She knows this might only embarrass Chloe more, but she doesn't care. Chloe is just a kid, really. She needs someone to know they're here for her. ]

[Chloe wasn't quite expecting that hug, but she should've been, and after a second or so of tenseness she just sighed into it, wrapping her arms around Sarah and resting her face on the other girl's shoulder. Okay. She needed this more than she realized.]

...I'm really not.

[She managed to say, muffled by Sarah's shoulder.]

[ Sarah rubs Chloe's back a few times, not sure what else to do. She's glad that Chloe seems to be okay with the hug, at least. ]

Did Max come with you?

[Eventually Chloe leans back without actually breaking the hug, and shakes her head. She almost looked like she was going to cry...]

[ Okay, that's not a good sign. Sarah moves from hugging Chloe to slipping an arm around her shoulders and leading her into the kitchen. ]

Did something happen?

[Chloe was easily enough to lead around for the moment.]

She wouldn't leave. And I just...I couldn't go back.

She's sending me stuff she's recording from the seminar so I can put it online...

[Yes she thinks it's a dumb idea. Yes she is going to do it anyway.]

[ Once Chloe's sitting in the kitchen, Sarah goes to the cupboards and gets out a bottle of bourbon and two glasses. ]

[Ooh, alcohol. Just what she needed.]

[ She pours the drinks and hands Chloe her glass. She's fairly sure if Alison sees this, she's going to get an earful, but what the hell. If they were in Toronto, this would be perfectly legal, and it very well might be in Mexico, too. ]

[Chloe took the glass, just staring into it for a moment.]

That brave is just another word for stupid and she should be here with me.

[Aaaaand...drink.]

[ Sarah huffs a laugh and takes a seat opposite Chloe with her own drink. ]

She'll be okay. She's smart, she can handle herself. [ Actually, Sarah doesn't really know Max well enough to make these kinds of statements, but Chloe doesn't need to know that. ] This is a situation where people like us just fuck shit up. People like her are the ones who end up saving all our arses.

[That actually made Chloe laugh too.]

Max saving my ass is pretty our baseline normal.

[Chloe was a fuck-up? WHO KNEW?!]

So give her a few days to do her sneaky shit. Have a little faith in her. And if anything goes wrong, we can be back in the States in, like, a day to fuck more shit up.

[ That Sarah, always with a pep talk at the ready. ]

[Even if she clearly wanted to. Instead she'll just have another drink.]

[ Sarah doesn't take the bottle from her, but she does watch carefully. ]

Mm...[Chloe contemplated this idea for a few seconds, watching the liquid swish around in her glass.]

Well I'm not cleaning up after you if you get sick.

This is not my first misery drinking session, Sarah.

[Chloe shrugged.]

[ Sarah has to choke back a disbelieving laugh at that. How many times did she say something similar when she was that age, and how many times did she regret it later? A lot. Still, she's not Chloe's mother. She's not about to tell her what to do. Besides, people need to make these mistakes for themselves, right? ]

[Hey, regrets were the spice of life. Chloe took another long drink and kind of flopped back in her chair.]

So you've been here like, a day right? What's there to do in Mexico?

[Ah, something to think about that isn't thinking about shit.]

Dunno yet, really. Alison hasn't been big on us going out and sightseeing. [ And as Chloe may be learning already, you kind of want to listen to Alison just to keep the peace. ]

I know there's a nice pool downstairs, though.
