So, no. That didn't occur to him to even be an option. The comm was a translator, so he tended to assume there wasn't anything out there on it that was in his native language. Somehow, the idea that Japan could be technologically caught up to this level had never occurred to him. The internet couldn't possibly exist there. It was 2019 back home, and - would it be 2020 now?

Tetsuo, she can't see puzzled expressions through the door...]

[Maya pulls out her phone, getting it onto metube and pulling up something she's already watched.

She presses the phone to the bottom of the door, letting the audio play through the space under it.]

[He listens for a moment. It's some ... kind of cooking show with a giraffe? Is he hearing that right? It's hard to tell just by audio if it's translated or not; there's only a few hints here and there. Phrases flowed more naturally. It was less direct.

[Tetsuo stands where he is, squinting a little to read it on the small screen. He knows when something's translated; there's no weird spacing, the sentences flow correctly, it looks right in a way he can't quite describe. This isn't. It'd be legible if it wasn't on the comm.
