Heropa

[ New world, new place? Just another day for Dani. She wished stuff like this would stop happening to her already, but she knew it didn't work that way. She had not been here for very long, but after getting what info she could from whoever the hell was in charge of this place and then being shoved off on her own afterwards, she decided explore around a bit, hoping to find some of her own kind here or maybe other friends she made a long the way. Either way she was looking for her people and others who could help her out.

She most likely would be wandering the streets and park asking people if they could tell her more about the city. She wanted answers. Or she could also be found sitting down somewhere playing with her handy dandy knife because she was just that bored. Or just knock her down or something idc. ]

Maurtia Falls

[ During the day time, Maurtia Falls seemed like a nice quiet, quaint city, but at night time that proved to be rather incorrect. Crime-wise it reminded Dani of just about any other large bustling city (not as bad as New York, but still somewhat up there) and now she regretted taking a walk around outside in the dark. Not because she was worried and she couldn't take care of herself -- quite the opposite, actually -- but because the people out and about at this hour were annoying and really starting to grate on her nerves the more she got pestered. The card sharks and dealers were relentless and Dani was half-tempted to just shove them to the ground, but she was an X-Man, she wouldn't do that. Not yet, anyway.

She could only sigh and pinch the bridge of her nose. Ugh. ]

Oh for the love of... I already said no. [ More bugging here. ] Yes I think it would be better if you moved along somewhere else. In that direction.

[ scott summers is here.

scott summers is here and everything is terrible. scott summers is precisely why when new people came around, he always tried to make himself scarce and avoidant. it never worked - it's kind of hard to hide when you're gold - but the sentiment was there. he has a lot of baggage, he has a lot of emotional problems, and also an extremely avoidant personality. so really, everyone should just be glad that he gets out of bed every day.

but josh is nothing if not predictable when in a complicated mood. autopilot kind of switches on during the day all smiles and like he doesn't have a dark thought in his head, and when he's off and he can't distract himself, it's party time. he gave that up for all of, what, a month? whatever, he's still being mostly good!

he's heading out of de chima general hospital as the sun is setting. his hood is up, a hat is stuffed over his white hair, airpods jammed in his ears, and from a distance, he's really just another dude, jangling his keys and humming something that sounds suspiciously like a good charlotte song (it is, in fact, a blink 182 song and he's not very on key) and honestly he almost walks right by her. would have, actually, if he was looking where he was going and not barreling straight into her like the world's most gianormous tool because he's firing off a pissy text to someone. ]

[ So far, no matter what city Dani has been to she has found no sign of the X-Men. No mutants. Not even an Avenger -- god forbid. She was starting to think she was the only one here, so to clear her head she took a nice trip to De Chima, mainly to look around at the stores and what have you. And she would have avoided running into the boy coming straight at her if she too was actually paying attention to her surroundings. But she wasn't.

Nope. Instead Dani is too busy rummaging through the bag of food she just bought at the grocery store. When he collides with her, she stumbles back a bit and holds both of her hands out in front of her as an apology.

Accidents happen. ]

No, it's alright. It was my fault I wasn't--

[ She cuts herself off, though, when she recognizes the familiar gold skin and then the face... the face that she definitely knows. Huh. ]

Um...

[ there should be recognition there. the urge to beat a hasty retreat, some apology for - for existing, for being a bad son, for almost running her over and for not going to find her when things got dark.

unfortunately, all she gets is a puzzled sort of smile. the um of someone who doesn't recognize someone who clearly recognizes him. he pops his airpods out of his ears and stuffs them in his pocket. is this a fan? a patient? uh...

shit. he has no idea.]

[ scott's breath smells like he's had a beer or two, but he's next to dani now with a hoodie up to cover most of his obvious suit. ]

[ Dani starts to talk all casual-like, not even thinking beyond that, and it's only when she turns her head toward the voice that everything starts to click. Her eyes go wide for a few seconds. ]

--Scott? [ Yup, it's obviously him. And he smells like alcohol. ] Good lord. You've been drinking, haven't you?

I had a few beers. It's not like I'm eighteen or something.

Heropa

[Quentin Beck lives in De Chima but he does like to make appearances in other cities and it is today he is flying through Heropa, trailing a thick cloud of green smoke. Perhaps some people near to Dani have stopped to look up and point at the sight above but now he is landing - right near to her. He's dressed in what appears to be some mix-up of Thor, Dr Strange and Iron Man - a futuristic-looking, lit-up armour chestplate; gauntlets; green suit showing underneath; a heavy burgundy cape - which also has light-up areas in its pattern - and a smoky helmet than looks like an upturned fishbowl. He's not subtle at all and as a few people approach him, the helmet retracts and disappears and he's beaming, chatting and signing autographs for the small crowd.]

[ Mysterio is a name she's heard of, but she doesn't know him well enough to recognize him right off the bat, even with his flashy costume. He's just another hero to her as it stands right now, judging by how the crowd is reacting to him and showering him with praise. It's a bit hard not to react as well, because he is basically standing right next to her.

With raised brow, she crosses her arms in front of her. Here Beck, have the rando start talking to you. ]

The crowd seems crazy about you. This happen to you a lot?

[As the rest of the people disperse, Beck looks to the woman speaking. He looks her up and down briefly, then smiles and shrugs as if he's just used to all the attention.]

Everybody loves a hero. Right?

Maurita Falls

[Today has been a busy day. And the best way to unwind after one of those tended to be time with people he cared about. Which normally meant that he stayed home and the people came to him. But tonight was special because he needed to get the hell away from home, given he was a bit stressed over certain new arrivals. So instead David was walking from the local porter, a canvas bag over one shoulder stuffed with ingredients for a complex meal he was going to throw together for Damian once he got to the other man's house. Not his preferred cooking location, but no way he was going to run into Scott.

He is more than used to ignoring the people on the street, and just walks past them with no problems, humming to himself under his breath until...

Until a program he left running on his glasses picked up on a familiar voice. Something from back home. And David froze. Unbelieving.]

Dani?

[ Ignoring them sounds like the better option and Dani is starting to heed that advice. She can tune them out like they're white noise... except for the fact that the only voice she doesn't tune out is a very familiar one that she hears from behind her. One that she hasn't heard in what seems like forever, but one she knows very well, nonetheless. And turning her head to finally face him, Dani looks almost shocked. ]

David? Oh my god it's really you. I was starting to think I was the only one here.

[The only thing that keeps him from dropping the bag of ingredients is that there are glass bottles and produce that would bruise. So he puts the bag down before opening his arms. Yes, he's going to hug his advisor. He's always got a hug for Dani. Especially now that he's older and more mature.]

It's me, Dani. And we're not alone here. Tell me when you arrived. Are you new? Do you live here in the Falls? What did you get power wise? Oh, Dani, you have to come have dinner with us. I'll make something great for us all."

[it's alright; she won't have to deal with the heckling and badgering for too long at all on this particular night, because a sudden little parade of terrified, agitated vermin darts out of an alley and cuts through the lot of them, startling and interrupting enough of them to get them well on their way from the mutant.

terrified, agitated: rats and a couple fat raccoons that had caught the whiff of Darkov blood, a thing that all animals find repulsive and are compelled to either flee from or lash out against. thankfully, tonight there's enough space for them to do the former, rather than chase the boy around; it's too cold for that, anyway!

it does leave him staggering in surprise from when the raccoon had exploded out of the dumpster near him, and he's plopped into the snow looking really baffled, but otherwise unharmed.

he lets out a shaky exhale after a moment.] Huh...

[ Uh. Okay... Dani could honestly say she wasn't expecting that, but the interruption is welcomed because it just means she won't have to waste her time with them anymore. It's a win-win situation, really. Even if the parade of rodents also catches her by surprise... it's just so out of the blue. They rush past her, but don't touch her. Thankfully. ]

What the--?

[ Alright it's over now. She thinks. The boy nearby seems just as startled as her, though. She better make sure he's okay. So walking over, she holds out a hand. ]

You okay there?

[honestly, the surprise explosion of vermin had Marty forget there were other people nearby, so when he's approached, he does quite the double-take, blinking with wide eyes that reflect the distant street light much like the rodents' did. those eyes flicker from hand to face, staring in the way one does when one never learned that staring is rude.]

Um. Sorry. [it's a filler; he has to quickly worry and wonder what she said and if he missed more of it while lost in his own head.] That wasn't--I mean...I didn't mean for that to...happen. It surprised me.

"Hey, I think the waffles place is this way..." Nathan knew this new world was annoying because sometimes things changed without explanation. Not often, but... he hated that. he grinned a little as he glanced aside at Dani, though.

"This world isn't so bad when we are not dealing with the idiots being idiots factor."

Dani follows Nathan. It might have been annoying, but it was an annoyance she could adapt to.

"Isn't that just like at home, though?" She laughs a little at her own dumb joke. Yes, she wasn't serious all the time.

"True, too true." He snerks. "The main good point here is that powered people of all kinds are popular here, in most places, and now that the OTO is gone, there are no major groups out there trying to plot our downfall."

He shakes his head.

"We stopped an apocalypse, and had a minor supervillain craziness, but nothing big and nothing like... back home."

[ Dani might not (yet), but Wanda would — she happens to be a few feet behind Dani. The most recent person to bug Dani finds wisps of scarlet magic surrounding their arms, and then are flung back a few feet where they're effectively pinned against the building. Not hard, but enough to send a message. ]

Sometimes, they need a little shove to get the idea. [ ha ha, nice double meaning Wanda, hilarious. She releases her magical grip on the person. who does, in fact, move somewhere else. Quickly. ]

[ Welp. That is some magic that certainly catches her attention. And the person wielding said magic catches her attention even more. Was that...? ]

I figured as much. [ Yeah, that was almost definitely the Scarlet Witch and if it weren't for the fact that Dani had powers back she may have lashed out. But she has them back so she wont and she's helping her out too. Lashing out would be rude, anyway. ] Uh. Thanks?

Anytime. [ She nods her head slightly. people are weird here sometimes, ok, she's been here way too long to know that. ] Hell of a way to make friends here. [ ha. ]

[A stereotypical gentleman's warning? Yes. It's made a lot more serious sounding by the fact that the gentleman in question is six foot five and built like a brick shithouse. It's also quite clearly not much of a warning because the very second the dealer opines that Matthew can perform an impossible sex act upon himself, he simply breaks his arm with a thought.

Completely ignoring the now howling dealer and his unnaturally bent arm, Matthew regards Dani curiously.]

I've been better.

[ That's a dumb joke on her part. Ha ha. She appreciates the help, though, even if she thinks she didn't need it at all. It's the thought that counts and it's always nice to come across nice people.

Dani points her thumb towards one of the dudes. ]

But thanks. Street scammers can be a real big pain in the ass when they want to be. which is most of the time.

Heropa, Slight Wildcard

[ Laurie had gotten the heads-up from David that Dani's here now. They're actually in the middle of a back-and-forth regarding what to do about it, just in the sense of re-introducing herself. She knows that Dani's gotten word that she's around, but… Still. You don't want to pop up on somebody who last saw you dead, right?

Just her luck, then, that she rounds a corner and sees Dani coming in the opposite direction. She stops in her tracks, a grocery bag gripped in one arm. Oops? ]

Uh… Hey.

[ Welp. She knew she was going to run into Laurie sooner or later. And maybe it's the fact that David informed her about Laurie beforehand, or the fact that she has just come from Krakoa... whatever it is, Dani's more relieved than shocked to see her former student, well... not dead.

So she offers a soft smile upon seeing her. ]

Hey, Laurie. I'm really glad to see you again.
