WHO: Dani & YOU
WHERE: Heropa & Maurtia Falls, mainly
WHEN: Sometime early January
WHAT: Another one of those X-Men arrives
WARNINGS: N/A, will change if needed
Heropa
[ New world, new place? Just another day for Dani. She wished stuff like this would stop happening to her already, but she knew it didn't work that way. She had not been here for very long, but after getting what info she could from whoever the hell was in charge of this place and then being shoved off on her own afterwards, she decided explore around a bit, hoping to find some of her own kind here or maybe other friends she made a long the way. Either way she was looking for her people and others who could help her out.
She most likely would be wandering the streets and park asking people if they could tell her more about the city. She wanted answers. Or she could also be found sitting down somewhere playing with her handy dandy knife because she was just that bored.Or just knock her down or something idc. ]
Maurtia Falls
[ During the day time, Maurtia Falls seemed like a nice quiet, quaint city, but at night time that proved to be rather incorrect. Crime-wise it reminded Dani of just about any other large bustling city (not as bad as New York, but still somewhat up there) and now she regretted taking a walk around outside in the dark. Not because she was worried and she couldn't take care of herself -- quite the opposite, actually -- but because the people out and about at this hour were annoying and really starting to grate on her nerves the more she got pestered. The card sharks and dealers were relentless and Dani was half-tempted to just shove them to the ground, but she was an X-Man, she wouldn't do that. Not yet, anyway.
She could only sigh and pinch the bridge of her nose. Ugh. ]
Oh for the love of... I already said no. [ More bugging here. ] Yes I think it would be better if you moved along somewhere else. In that direction.
[ Why were these people like this? ]
Wildcard
[ Give me your own prompt in any of the cities. PM me or reach me on plurk if you have any ideas. ]

wild card, de chima
scott summers is here and everything is terrible. scott summers is precisely why when new people came around, he always tried to make himself scarce and avoidant. it never worked - it's kind of hard to hide when you're gold - but the sentiment was there. he has a lot of baggage, he has a lot of emotional problems, and also an extremely avoidant personality. so really, everyone should just be glad that he gets out of bed every day.
but josh is nothing if not predictable when in a complicated mood. autopilot kind of switches on during the day all smiles and like he doesn't have a dark thought in his head, and when he's off and he can't distract himself, it's party time. he gave that up for all of, what, a month? whatever, he's still being mostly good!
he's heading out of de chima general hospital as the sun is setting. his hood is up, a hat is stuffed over his white hair, airpods jammed in his ears, and from a distance, he's really just another dude, jangling his keys and humming something that sounds suspiciously like a good charlotte song (it is, in fact, a blink 182 song and he's not very on key) and honestly he almost walks right by her. would have, actually, if he was looking where he was going and not barreling straight into her like the world's most gianormous tool because he's firing off a pissy text to someone. ]
Oh, shit, I'm sorry!
no subject
Nope. Instead Dani is too busy rummaging through the bag of food she just bought at the grocery store. When he collides with her, she stumbles back a bit and holds both of her hands out in front of her as an apology.
Accidents happen. ]
No, it's alright. It was my fault I wasn't--
[ She cuts herself off, though, when she recognizes the familiar gold skin and then the face... the face that she definitely knows. Huh. ]
Josh?!
no subject
[ there should be recognition there. the urge to beat a hasty retreat, some apology for - for existing, for being a bad son, for almost running her over and for not going to find her when things got dark.
unfortunately, all she gets is a puzzled sort of smile. the um of someone who doesn't recognize someone who clearly recognizes him. he pops his airpods out of his ears and stuffs them in his pocket. is this a fan? a patient? uh...
shit. he has no idea.]
Um, yeah! That's me.
no subject
Still, a look of puzzlement washes across her. ]
Oh, Josh... it's really good to see you. We haven't talked in a while, but still... it's good to see you.
[ She wants to hug her fake son, but his reaction makes her a bit wary of doing that. So instead she settles for reaching out to place a hand on his shoulder, a soft look on her face.
Sorry, Josh. She's probably confusing him badly right now. ]
no subject
oh no.
she knows him well. this isn't a fan or some rando, this is someone who knows him and he's looking at her face and can't place it at all. ]
I'm sure it's good to see you too... [ it's too familiar to just try to play it off like he knows. ] But I'm-- I'm sorry, who are you?
no subject
A sigh and she rubs the side of her head. ]
My name is Dani. Dani Moonstar. You know about the institute, don't you? [ She wants to see how much he remembers. ] I taught there for awhile and you were one of my students.
no subject
-- were you the one that made David think he's going to take over the world?
no subject
Then he mentions David... oh yeah, that illusion thing she did with Emma so David would keep his mental blocks... ]
Uh... Yeah. Sort of. But it was to help him out.
[ That somehow sounds worse when she says it out loud. ]
no subject
[ he turns towards the direction of his car, jangling his keys in his pocket. josh foley as a rule isn't very fond of adult x-men, especially ones who pull stunts like that, but... jeez. she looks a lot younger than scott.
maybe emma made her do it? that's kinda what emma does. ]
Look - I'm about to head home, but like, if you want you can tag along and fill me in? And I can, uh, fill you in on what's what around here I guess.
no subject
[ Dani has cut to herself off, since she doesn't really want to get into here, or at all. She felt bad about it even before her arrival.
So instead she sighs, scratching her head. ]
Yeah. Yeah, okay. That sounds good. There's a lot to fill you in on... and it sounds like there's a lot for you to fill me in on.
no subject
Never a dull moment.
[ he doesn't really know her. he seriously can't place her in his memories at all, but she'd been so relieved to see him... had they been close? Was she a sub?
Why the hell can't he remember? He slides into the drivers side. ]
I guess if you know me, you must know David. He lives with me.
no subject
She takes the passenger's side, which is admittedly little weird to her. The last time she saw Josh he didn't even have a license. ]
Yup. I knew the whole lot of you. Noriko. Sofia. [ Jay. Laurie.
Kevin. But she doesn't bring them up, because y'know... certain reasons. ] Victor. Megan.[ THEY'RE NOT DEAD. RIGHT??? ]
You were a bunch of good kids. Even if you got into trouble sometimes.
[ A pause. ]
Have you been here very long?
no subject
[ god. are nori and Sofia going to show up now? that's just what he needs.
Should he say Laurie's here? Mm.. nah. That's a big conversation he doesn't wanna have right now. He turns the key and checks, backing out slowly and carefully. ]
It's not so bad. I'd take it over home, honestly, being a mutant doesn't stop you from having a life.
no subject
The locals here do seem a lot less hostile from what I can tell. Someone asked not too long ago if they could take a picture with me... how weird is that, right?
no subject
[ it's A Lot. ]
So, like, it just swings in the opposite direction from home. Instead of wanting to kill us, they wanna be our best friends.
no subject
[ ANYWAY. ]
That's what I'm getting from this. It's weird and it almost makes me a bit... cautious, in a sense? But I might be reading too much into it.
no subject
No, I get it. I didn't trust it at all because, like, humans treating mutants like Avengers? Crazy.
[ he laughs a little, steering them towards a more rural part of town. ]
no subject
Do you trust it now, now that you've been here longer?
no subject
[ he's smiling himself. thinking about it. how -- how nice it is to be here, instead of home. constantly scared. of himself, of humans, of the world. ]
It's kinda cheesy... But, like, people don't even really stare when I walk down the streets, and like, my friends and coworkers threw me a birthday party... This place is home. I haven't really had one of those since I dropped outta Xavier's. [ oh, right, wait: she's a teacher. ] W-which, you know, wasn't any of the teacher's faults or anything! My grades were bad anyway.
no subject
No see, I understand that. I completely understand it. It's a great feeling -- having the chance to have a quieter life and not having to worry about if the people around you are going to flip on you at the drop of a hat. It's great and you deserve it... all you ki -- guys do. [ She can't help but chuckle at his last statement. ] And you did like to play hooky a lot.
no subject
I wasn't a school kinda guy! Besides, like, the classes got harder and I kept missing time. [ josh foley had definitely had zero parental guidance getting him to straighten up and fly right until the woman in this car came along. he wasn't stupid, but he'd never really been taught to study and he'd skated by mostly by cheating of other students. when that didn't work, he didn't show up.
but dani'd made him want to try and he has no memory of any of it. ]
What subject did you teach?
no subject
You could've ask Shan for help. I know she would've been happy to do so.
[ Dani mainly mentions Shan just to see if Josh has any memory of any of the other teachers or if it's just her he doesn't remember. It might help her narrow down what exactly happened too.
At his last question she pauses for short second before answering. ]
American History.
[ Maybe a little on the nose given her origins? Yeah, most definitely. ]
no subject
[ does he get into living in the rubble of utopia? because that just seems like a can of worms and a conversation he doesn't want to have.
those pale white brows draw together. he... liked history class. he remembers that much. ]
... Huh. [ a sidelong glance. not that she could tell what with the lack of visible iris and pupil. it's on the tip of his tongue to say something stupid, something that feels vaguely familiar, but he thinks better of it and looks ahead again. ] I... remember the class. That was, like, the only one I was getting As in...
[ but not... her. ]
no subject
[ Or tried to, anyway. Of course trying and doing so were two different things. Dani shakes her head a little. ]
It was one of the classes you probably worked the hardest at. [ And one of the only ones he read the textbook on from front to back -- probably because she made him.
She pauses to consider something, then: ]
Do you remember any of the other teachers? Amara? Jean-Paul?
no subject
I remember I woke Amara up from her coma and totaled the infirmary, and...
[ and he remembers healing Jean-Paul's body. Hands covered in blood, tears in his eyes, his friends still avoiding him.
Dani drawing him into a hug is missing. Dani sitting with him after the truth about his relationship with Rahne is a void. It's just a dark, lonely time without her there. ]
I remember Mr. Beaubier. And Rahne. And Miss Frost, and Cyclops and Wolverine. Uhh, Miss Grey... [ squinting thoughtfully. his house is coming into view now. a nice little two-story four bedroom deal, with a decent sized yard. ] Professor X, Shan, uh... I think Gambit subbed for French one time? I don't think we actually learned any French. Iceman. Professor McCoy was trying to teach me about my powers, and uh, Angel was always kinda... around. Miss Pryde. Um.
[ there were so many teachers good fucking god. ]
