[ When Lucifer decided the fight was over, it really was over. Gregor was long gone, and Mark too, which left the residual mess of people, and the archangel stabbed, spilling grace from the wound. In a great act of self defense, he began to glow, blue white and then whiter and whiter, first his eyes, then his entire body, then the warehouse itself, until it was blinding, cutting right through the darkness.

And then nobody was in the warehouse any more--they were up to their waists in murky water, or higher in some cases, standing low in the reedy mush of a swamp. Crickets chirped, frogs croaked, and something enormous swished its way underneath the water twenty yards upstream, submerging as it began its curious approach to investigate the new intruders in its habitat.

This was croc country. Staying in the water was not recommended. ]

[ There's a lot about her power armor that she enjoys. The climate control, the protection, the added processing power that it allows. And then there's things she absolutely hates.

So far that list includes the weight of the suit and the fact that when dumped in a swamp, that weight only serves to cause her to sink. Slowly. The immediate danger is over at least and she grumbles as she reaches out to grab onto a nearby piece of foliage for some kind of anchor. ]

Someone give me a hand with this. Now.

Not even a second to despair over the mud...

[ So much mud. Hawke is glad the body armor she kept from Archangel was of the sleek, lightweight variety all of the sudden. Anyway, she'll pull herself out of the water and reeds and trek over, trying to find something relatively dry to stand on as she goes. ]

I can pull you out, but it'll only slam you back into that muck after a few seconds. I could probably cut that part off early... hm...

[ Thank goodness it's slowly sinking for Tex's dilemma. It gives her a moment to stop and consider what is and isn't possible. ]

[ Ah yes, the woman from the rubble that had broken Miles' legs. And for some reason was helping them now.

Well. Beggars can't be choosers when they're falling into the muck. She has no idea what Hawke is talking about trying, but if it could actually get out then it's worth a shot. ]

There's no way you can angle it so I land on more solid ground?

If you explain what it is you're planning, perhaps I could be of assistance?

I could try, maybe mix a few spells, though-- [ But then Roy cuts in and Hawke turns to look towards him. ] Possibly. I can pull her out, but it's an offensive spell. It tends to slam people back into the ground after a few seconds of being up.

For now, but I can't make all the land dry, no. We'll have to send someone to scout ahead while we prepare the Admiral for transport and... Pull Miss Tex out of the mud.

[At some point the group has had to stop for a break to try to get their bearings and to let the injured rest, and Ed has spent this time figuring out how to send a group text out. Odds are low it'll send—there's only a single bar of service showing. But one bar is better than no bars.

Luck willing, members of the Dendarii who are safely tucked in hospitals or farmhouses waiting for word from the combat group will get a still image of Ed, bedraggled and a little bloodstained, with a backdrop of endless swamp behind him.

Below the image is a simple text message "WEAR OUR WE"

Surely someone in this fancy world of the future filled with impossible super powers will have a way to know!!!]

[Jim watches Ed with a look of amusement. He's been walking around right above the level of the water line, small blue transparent platforms materializing under each step of his.]

Not a lot of signal here. Might as well keep going until there's a change of scenery.

[He looks down at Ed's arm--the flesh one.]

You should keep that out of the water--it'll get infected. [Bones would have an absolute stroke if he was around for this...]

Here, come up.

[Ed hangs his head in defeat, being careful to keep his arm out of the water even while he slumps miserably. It's a bit awkward.]

Come up on what? Can you make more of those steps?

Yeah, actually.

[A beat.]

Go ahead.

[Ed will find there's a couple of steps under the water line for him to step on.]

Oh, than—... [Ed cuts off mid-step, practically jolting to a halt as he starts up the steps Jim's made for him.]





My leg is stuck.

[Roy glances around until he spots Jim, calling out.]

Captain Kirk, how are you to move?

[Really? A swamp? Eugh. The muck was pulling at his shoes as he sinks in ever so slightly--luckily not as much weight to him as Tex or Ed. He's also a little better equipped for this...

He has to concentrate as he uses both powers at once, but he minimizes use by only making his feet phase through the mud first, freeing him from its suction and stepping up onto a small platform still below the water line. He continues doing this, stepping up and up with some effort before he's standing on a platform right above the gunk.]

[Roy blinks, taken aback at the demonstration, but he shelves his curiosity for later. They will, he fears, have plenty of time to talk on the way back.]

Er, yes actually, if you don't mind.

[Jim was not looking forward to finding a way out of there but for now, he could at least make this all a bit easier by using his powers to get them out of the swamp. He holds out a hand, glad that Roy already had gloves on--his touch telepathy wouldn't be an issue here then.]

Grab my hand. Your legs will feel weird, but it's just until you clear the water and mud.

[Gloves and a jacket, despite the heat, so he's well-covered. Roy clasps his hand and waits for whatever 'weird' feels like.]
