WHEN: Wednesday evening, the 12th
WHAT: Registration in motion at a very chilling and thrilling Swear-In ceremony! Masks and menaces meet tricks and treats.
WARNINGS: There will be murder in this log, ooc post here. Let me know if this portion needs an update!
The evening has delightful weather of clear skies and some chill. A thin, long sleeve should do the trick just fine. An old, large house on a grassy estate just outside Nonah is where the imPorts will find themselves this time around. The house features large cobwebs on parts of it, the lights gleaming from inside are an odd sort of yellow, sometimes ghouls peek out the top windows, and a skeleton sits on the porch.
The house contains a flurry of actors dressed in a wide array of characters. From the old-fashioned Victorian family and quickly obliging servants to hags, witches, mummies, ghosts, and everything in between. They sit in rooms and wait for their loved ones to return, or just for imPorts to stumble upon them. They run through the halls wailing and cackling, walk through the halls staring dead-eyed at the living. Their presence is all that's meant to scare; no one will be lunged at or nearly attacked or any such thing. Occasionally a room door might shut behind imPorts, "trapped" until they answer a riddle from a Jekyll who needs their help to keep Hyde at bay (or until fifteen minutes has passed, or until they've kicked up enough fuss to be let free) but that's as far as the ghouls go to keep anyone too close.
Two spots of this house have been turned into escape rooms, each accepting eight participants at a time for an hour maximum. No telepathy! No powers! Don't cheat and ruin the fun for everyone else! Some rooms contain games associated with outdoor festivals, tossing spooky-shaped bean bags into holes, or guessing how many jelly eye balls are in a jar. There is even a small petting zoo on the first floor, the hillbilly with an ax in his head seemingly unconcerned that anyone might try and steal one of the animals, which is mostly just small goats wearing spooky sweaters. They are small but frighteningly fluffy. Other rooms have guessing games that encourage imPorts to put their hands in dark boxes and guess what they're feeling. Don't worry! This is not a trick. Those brains are definitely just spaghetti, those bowls of eyes are just made of jelly, those bowls of fingers are just replicas, and the bones are plastic!
Vincent Willem van Ghoul has a quiet room all to himself, with an easel and plenty of colors. He also has a table. You're free to request either face painting (he's very good at drawing ghosts on cheeks, and almost perfect and making ears look sewn back on) or a quick caricature. It doesn't matter which you ask for, he'll be somewhat tight-lipped and grouchy as soon as you walk in the room. You can still engage him in conversation, and if you do, you're bound to walk away with a nice bit of custom art and a history lesson.
The centerpiece of is a ballroom with a stage, renovated so it includes curtain and lights and sounds above it like a real, albeit small, theater might. The stage has a changing set of performers covering frightful tunes in a variety of ways (Night on Bald Mountain played by a jug band; Danse Macabre played on banjos; Dance of the Knights played in a polka style; The Monster Mash gets a jazz rendition; songs associated with scary movies are crooned by local bands). The room itself has enough space to dance in and holds tables of treats. Finger foods shaped like fingers, scary cupcakes, the red punch fountain has a bunch of edible jelly eyes rolling on the bottom. More adult drinks can be requested and delivered on a silver platter by a butler or maid with a not at all convincing slit throat or gunshot wound somewhere visible. ImPorts are free to step outside for a breather (or a smoke!) and will find themselves engaged in conversation with a servant "playing hooky" or left alone, whichever they prefer.
Nearly midnight, things are beginning to wind down. A heavy booming comes from the ballroom as every imaginable horror movie and story trope takes the stage, the main light cuts off, and the sounds of the ever-recognizable Chiller fill the room. This dance troupe pulls it off well, some of them leaping off the stage to dance among those watching, interactive. Even some of the crew that's been there all night is getting into it! Maybe you were still doing an escape room, or were fighting the urge to kidnap a goat, or trying to help Jekyll escape his horrible fate...maybe you weren't there for it, and that's okay. Because it will be talked for a while after. The contrast of victorious wolfman and voodoo doctor to one side, confetti spewing, people clapping, and then the zombie standing out front, now without a head, the light that took it off hanging next to him, before he just collapsed and the screaming started...oh, the screaming, it could have been part of the show...
Any shut doors open immediately as imPorts are hurried outside. Sirens wail as police and ambulances speed closer. ("An ambulance?" van Ghoul can be heard remarking, "We need a hearse.") The house crew will insist that imPorts remain outside unless they can prove to be part of law enforcement in this world, and even then they demand imPorts stay at a safe distance to keep the area of the tragedy clean.
The police say "sorry folks" a lot. There isn't much to know or do until the morning, they say to anyone talking about helping. They have to get their crime scene folks down to gather evidence, and that takes time. They're glad people care, but there isn't anything to be done now. Go home.
The buses shuttling them back leave the radio running until Chiller pops on. Then the short ride back to Nonah becomes a quiet, grave one.

He doesn't have the best track record with regards to Halloween, he's not going to keep up the pattern. Really, the only reason why he arrived in the first place was to drink (he's on his third terrible Halloween themed cocktail) and The problem with that is eventually some sort of actors or locals or whatever start bothering him to come on, just do this one room, it's not that scary, just let us ear our paycheck. Dorian remains intensely stubborn and, due to a myriad of factors, intensely annoyed. ]

Dorian is not playing along. [ Sasaki didn't come in a costume this time, he wasn't told to bring one, but oh boy he kind of regrets it. He rarely gets to go to Halloween parties (read: never) and he should enjoy them while he can. Sadly, not this one, but the promise he'll dress up for Halloween is there.
Currently, he is over the Ballroom, eyeing the food they made. It looks great, he loves the themed cupcakes and he is definitively getting a lot of ideas for some Halloween treats (for someone who can't eat, he is definitively very interested in food) - in fact, he even grabs a place so he can cut a cupcake in half and see what's inside. ] These are pumpkin aren't they... [ everyone is so obsessed with pumpkin during Halloween. ]

[ This wouldn't be a proper Swear-in if something didn't happen. It works like a clock; one Swear-In goes well, the next one has to have some thing happening, and of course this one doesn't fail. When imPorts are shown their way outside the house, Sasaki stays behind as a Police officer. Though, Nonah Police Department isn't that happy it's an Heropa Officer, they are kind enough to allow Sasaki some information.

Sure. They tell him a bit, but only a bit but after that bit they tell Sasaki he'd have to go through proper channels in order to obtain more information. Proper channels means talking to his superior, who'd talk with Nonah's PD, who'd maybe let Sasaki in on it. Bureaucracy he'd rather avoid at this very second, so eventually he returns outside. ]

[Clark had decided he couldn’t miss the Swear In. It’s not that something bad always happens in them, but… well. Actually no, that’s pretty much it. Some are less bad, some are simply an inconvenience, but he still learned very early on not to skip one of these just in case his help was needed. The fact that it’s now Halloween made the decision to come all that easier, he’s sure someone will want to go with a bang.
He’s even dressed up for the occasion! With the thick glasses under the mask, of course, because this is totally Clark Kent dressing up.
So excuse him for being a little jumpy when the door closes behind him. His fists stay clenched until he’s told what he has to do… ah. Well, he can do a riddle.]

[Did you know Halloween is, like, a huge deal for youkai? Okay, so, it's not really Halloween, but a spooky celebration is close enough. As such, Komasan is absolutely thrilled as he runs around in his little witch's outfit, hoping this month's swear-in will be enough to lure out some native spirits.
Because he just refuses to believe that there aren't any here.
So because he's more on a hunt than anything else, Komasan can be found just about anywhere, running around and sticking his nose in places it definitely doesn't belong. Whoops.]
B. Ghoats
[So, animals are cute. It's really no surprise that Komasan's drawn to the petting zoo, although some people might mistake him as part of the attraction. Komasan doesn't mind free pets, but again, he's looking for other ghostly creatures.
...A lot of his time is spent interrogating the animals.
When questions don't work, Komasan's approach becomes a little more hands-on, people stopping by the petting zoo might find a tiny dog riding an equally tiny goat. "Riding" quickly turns into the goat bouncing around and trying to buck its captor off of it, as Komasan can only scream and hang on for dear life.]

C. Ballroom
[The ballroom seems like the perfect place to retreat to when Komasan's search comes up empty. He always liked it when the swear-ins had some sort of dance set up, and this is no different. He's even been practicing to learn how to dance over the past few weeks!
...Which makes it so weird that he's wallflowering about. Komasan holds the rim of his hat over most of his face, staying in his tiny dog form so he's easier to lose in the crowd. Due to, well, sorta blinding himself, he occasionally rubs against someone's leg on his way to the snack table.]

[When Tokoyami heard of the swear-in he first thought 'finally, some kind of order with all these superpowered types'. But what more he loves Halloween. The creepiness, the excuse for commercialized spooky excess, the chance to go out in costumes.
It helped he was born the day before HalloweenThe only shame is Tokoyami hadn't got the time to prepare a full costume. But not a problem when you stick out in this world apparently! With his Tsukuyomi cloak of darkness and cheap fang dentures, he's now vampire bird lord.Even if he doesn't know a lot of people here, it puts him at ease with the atmosphere. Whoever put up the music he must commend. But for now he takes a glass of the punch, drinking it as vampire-like as he can (if his classmates saw him they'd surely laugh.). And mostly him strolling the dance floor to make it seem like he's dancing so no one actually takes him for a dance.]

[Later he gets taken to one of the more 'fun' diversions with those so-called guessing rooms. He reasons it's good mental training, until he realizes that no. He's wrong. He's terribly wrong.
Not a lot of quick thinking or intellectual pursuit with putting a hand in a dark box of mystery. Tokoyami doesn't break eye contact for a moment as he sticks his hand in there and just go for the gore. Not like someone would actually put body parts in there.]

[It was such a nice party, time passes so fast before the first body hits the ground. When the commotion first happens Tokoyami only realizes that something went wrong as they get filed out of the mansion one by one.
He soon learns the truth of the matter: death as in murder. He thinks back to the names of two murderers back home: Stain. Moonfish. It must be true that there's always a rotten element to superheroes like this place...or his home. That doesn't stop him hounding after authorities, who look so bent on stopping any progress from being done.]
But one of us can help! There's no point in bringing heroes here if we can't do something!

Otherwise, Hemali will be pulling just about anyone who isn't under twenty-one toward the floor, no matter who they are or what they look like. Her eyes light up each and every time, a playful smirk on her face as she ignores personal boundaries for the sake of her own entertainment. ]

[ Something far more interesting happens: someone's dead. She doesn't get an opportunity to see who it is before everyone's ushered out onto the streets. Disappointing, but not unexpected; Hemali still tries to stand on her tiptoes to see above the crowd and observe what the police are doing. ]

He's wearing all white (in honour of quite a different holiday that day). A white suit, with a white cravat. This aspect is both a nod to the swear-in that day and a fellow in his line of work at home -- it's got a ghost-like feel to the outfit. He's left the shoes off, however.

[ Later he'll be in the ballroom, not dancing but observing the dancing. He may raise an eyebrow and smile in a vaguely creepy manner if you catch his eye.

[ Ame is a bit confused at the whole thing. Halloween isn't a thing he celebrated back home, but he is trying not to question things too much. Different world, different country - so he will go along with it. However, he did hear that, since this is Halloween, he could dress up.
While Ame will not be dressing up, he will pretend to. Ame will have his ears and tail out, as well as his nose and fangs, pretending to be a "wolf-boy" (except he really is). Some people compliment on how cute his costume is, and he replies with a tail wag that leaves them amazed because "it looks so real" - Ame finds this to be an overall success. Nobody is asking him about his ears, and nobody is running scared because there's a werewolf in there.
Ame walks through the house, exploring it. Though he doesn't touch anything, neither he wants to have his face painted, if you pay close attention he is actually sniffing here and there, looking at the people and everyone around him. When he isn't exploring the place, Ame can be found near the food, taking some of the cupcakes and trying to see what they are made of (he doesn't like chocolate, after all). But the ones he can eat? he sure is stuffing them into his mouth. ]
Petting Zoo
[ why do they have animals in a place like this? Ame is staring at a goat, while it stares back, but they aren't really having a staring contest. The goat is probably trying to understand what Ame is, and Ame is trying to understand if the Goat doesn't mind the sort of silly sweater. It seems that it doesn't; uh, who would have thought.
The goat eventually decides it doesn't want to be staring at Ame because he seems a bit dangerous (he is a wolf, after all) and leaves to come closer to the rest. Though Ame lost his "friend, he will be staying nearby, looking at the animals. ] I'm not going to eat you. [ he actually says that out-loud, oops ]

"I find myself wondering whether there could have been foul play involved."

There was nothing saying anywhere that imPorts couldn't dress up, but that didn't stop Adachi from doing so. Seriously, how could he not? There was so much cheesiness going on around him in a "haunted" house, how could he not try and participate? He managed to find a red mask and a simple black robe. It wasn't really scary if you saw it coming, but for a jump scare? Or chasing around little kids? It was totally perfect.
He's going around the different rooms with this mask off his face for the most part, tilted to the side like it was a kitsune mask. He puts it back in place when there's people around he could give a fright, keeping as quiet as he can as he sneaks up behind people to either scream, or creep a hand on their shoulders.

When he gets tired of that (or when he's been slapped or kicked at too many times, whichever), Adachi makes his way to the ballroom. The music is good, of course, but he's mostly there for the food. Chiller he doesn't really recognize, but it's got a good beat and--

It didn't seem to matter how much Adachi snapped at the police that kicked them all out, they wouldn't budge. Apparently he wasn't a big enough name yet to get people to actually acknowledge that he was in law enforcement, even if he was working privately. [With the number of pets inhabiting Heropa 33, and with every single one of them (except for Kagami's imPocreat) belonging to Riku, it's not surprising that he can be found here. He's sitting crosslegged next to a goat wearing a surpremely ugly sweater-vest and feeding it a handful of hay, piece by piece. It seems more interested in getting him to give it to him all at once, though, and with a sudden movement it launches itself into his lap, Riku starting with a flap of his wings and dropping all of the hay into the miniature goat's face.]

two - a closed room
[There are a couple of times he gets trapped in a room -- the first time it on accident, and he spends a few minutes asking an impatient Jekyll for more qualifiers on his riddle -- and then the next few times, he does it on purpose. Maybe he's slipped in behind you, expression curious -- he wants to do more riddles, is all.]
three - past midnight
[It's an instant change in tone as soon as things go wrong, and when the whole room erupts in screams he's immediately frowning. Riku lets himself be led outside, and then he's standing out in the cool air impatiently -- not impatient that he's being herded away from the scene of someone's death, but more impatient that it's cold. (It's not that cold. He's just unable to get used to temperatures lower than Heropa's.) His wings are held folded, close against his back. If you look closely, they're quivering. He'll have to make them some sort of covers for the cold. For now, though, despite the chill, he's curious about the person who was killed -- so if you're talking about it or arguing with a police officer, he'll be quick to approach you to find out what it is you think of things.]
