[He closes his eyes, drinking up her warmth, her presence.]

I'll be all right.

[ But there's no heat behind her words. ]

So it seems. [He pulls a half smile at that. He reaches to cup her face and.. finding his arms limited, gets a hold of the plastic tube and gives it a solid, if idle yank.]

I'd hoped to make a better showing on arrival.

Stop that. [ She covers the hand tugging at the tubes with her free hand. ] You're going to get the nurses mad at you.

[He responded more to the warmth than the words, stilling. He scowls at her none the less.]

They're already irrational. Tell me you're here to sign me out.

You must have hit your head to have forgotten about the hole in your gut so quickly. Don't think I won't ask those irrational nurses to sedate you.

[There's a disgruntled snort here. He lets his head fall back to the thin, paper lined pillow.]

Don't encourage them.

[ She pulls back when his head falls to the pillow, taking a seat on the bed next to him. ]

[There is a pang of visible guilt there. He had promised her not to push her to anything drastic again...]

I ... may owe you an apology. For a number of things.

[ She snorts lightly at that, but otherwise she doesn't respond out loud. Neither confirming or denying his statement.

She does however thread her fingers through his hair her face still close to his, soothing that pang as best as she can. ]

[He closes his eyes under those gentle ministrations.]

It should be over. Wont be doing that again..

[ Her voice lowers, intimate now. ]

The thing with the stabbing or the arguing?

[ She spends several moments quietly combing through his hair before she moves again. She stands from the bed, withdrawing slightly – only to rearrange some of the tubing on this side of the bed, making room for her to sit again on the bed, this time moving to lie next to him. She carefully lifts his arm so she can lay her head on his shoulder, letting his arm relax around her back. ]

[Much like the last time they were in the hospital... He is, selfishly, glad that this time he was the only one the doctors were trying to get to rest. Moments pass in comfortable silence. The scents of her soap and shampoo like a perfume in the bitter, astringent air, and her warmth a balm.

It takes a while... quiet, a little openly vulnerable, for him to ask.]

That was it... right? The only thing I didn't know...

[ She pressed against his side as carefully as she could, the arm draped across his torso mindful of his injuries. She tilts her head up to murmur against his neck. ]

Well, there is still the things you don't know about what Allison and I do ...

We ah... had talked about perhaps spending some time, the three of us.

[He shifts to reach for her - and aborts that abruptly, leaning back.]

[ She makes her own sound at that, more like a muffled laugh. She also shifts against him, positioning herself for how he was going to reach for her. ]

[It does give him better access to curling the arm she was resting on around her.]

An offer to reenact a rather public display of affection in private.

[ She sits up at that, turning her head to raise her eyebrows at him. ]

[He gives her the most dry look at her meerkat impression. How pleasing it was to see her enthusiasm and pleasure had nothing to do with anything at all. Really.]

Well of course not now. She'd actually have to be in the room to be now.

[ The unsubtle waggling of eyebrows could be read as either teasing or ... something else. One can never really tell with Cordelia when she's in a mood like this. ]

[He stares up at the ceiling, as if asking for strength from gods he didn't believe in.]
