Only genetically. He's been raised to hate and fear Vorkosigans. That kind of severe indoctrination is difficult to overcome so quickly. Think of the last time he actually had a choice to choose who he is.

[ He opens his mouth to protest again - and then quiets. That make an alarming amount of sense. ]

[ She lets out another long breath, turning her head slightly to breathe in Miles' hair. ]

I'd like for him to accept it, to accept us. But I'm not going to push him.

[ That's okay. She breathes in his scent, hospital smell and grossness and all. ]

Try not to bulldoze over him at least. He's still probably scared out of his mind, even if this whole thing with the Devil is over with.

[ She falls quiet after that, just leaning against Miles and gazing at Gregor sleeping. The hand that's still holding onto Miles' is very gently rubbing her thumb over the back of his hand. ]

[ He leans in closer at that, deeply comforted by her presence. ]

Are you and Da going to be all right?

Oh, I think so. The last time we had an argument like that, I ended up ordering someone's head cut off, but it wasn't your father's head.

[ Miles eyes go rather wide at that. ]

Please don't come back with Lucifer's in a shopping bag.

As tempting as it is ... no. Besides, Bothari isn't here to help with it.

[ A slight wince at that. ]

Bothari here ... I don't know if he would love it or hate it.

[ Oops. She hadn't meant it like that, she's still used to him being newly appointed as an armsman. ]

I think it would depend on how much run around you were giving him.

[ He snorts faintly. ]

True. But knowing him, I think he'd just stuff me in a box and poke holes in the top. Call it a day.

[ She doesn't even bother to hide the smile growing on her lips. ]
