- then put him back again -

WHO: Lucifer, monsters, and you.
WHERE: Various places around the country, NOT in Heropa, Cape Canaveral, Nonah, De Chima or Maurtia Falls.
WHEN: Saturday 16th - Sunday 17th
WHAT: Lucifer tried to go home. It didn't work out as planned. Now there are monsters! Looks like America is in need of some heroes. See the ooc cut below for more information.
WARNINGS: Violence, monsters; things that happen when violence and monsters are in the same place. Please tag your threads if anything extra is needed.

Over the past month Lucifer had been systematically making his way through Northern America, stopping in specific locations and making sacrifices. Neither the people he had killed, nor the places he had chosen had been random- and the evidence of this was that he now stood in the center of a spell which spanned most of North America.

The center was, as luck would have it, a graveyard somewhere near Lawrence, Kansas.

There was something about this world that limited Lucifer- the encounters he had had with heroes so far had shown that he was neither as durable nor as powerful as he was used to. He had no desire to stay here any longer than necessary. He had been told that what he was trying was impossible- and honestly, that was probably true for humans. But if people were being brought here there had to be cracks in this world that he could tear open to escape.

Since the full moon had risen on Thursday he had been in place in the cemetery- summoning the spirits of the sacrifices he had made and one by one using them to power the spell. He took his time, confident that no one would interrupt him, and careful- doing this twice was not an option.

The eastern sky was turning grey as the final soul was put in place and Lucifer started on the words of the spell proper. It was complicated, designed to seek out weak spots in the fabric of the world and rip them open so that he could slip through. It probably wouldn't break this world- not that Lucifer cared much either way.

The spell almost immediately began to slip out of his control. The power contained in the souls of all the humans he had killed tried to pull the spell apart, fighting him as he attempted to unify them and force them to do his will. Slowly they came together, and anyone sensitive to such things would have felt him testing the limits of the world.

The world held together.

Lucifer was not the kind to explode with rage. His anger burned cold- and the knowledge that he had been wrong- that even this would not get him home- made him seethe. Very well. If he was to stay here, then he might as well put all that power to good use. Make his captors regret they had ever thought to bring him here.

He worked quickly, to avoid losing the power he had spent so long to build up. Resurrection was a simple spell, comparatively speaking. Transformation was a little harder- but turning humans into reflections of their true natures was a speciality of his. He spoke the words and the spells were cast.

The sun was just clearing the edge of the horizon when he was done. Across the country people would be waking up to a pleasant surprise- ghouls and ghosts raised, corpses resurrected and transformed into creatures who would seek out and kill any humans in their way.

Lucifer stayed in the cemetery, gathering his strength.

[ooc information]

Characters can:
- help wear Lucifer down (reply here)
- search for and destroy monsters either together or individually (make your own thread as a reply)
- get turned into monsters themselves! T'Challa can turn them back, or they can be killed (which will need mod approval)
- keep track of where monster sightings are and direct heroes to them (either here, or make a network post)
- stay at home and watch it all on tv!

Monsters are:
- Zombies: your standard walking dead, rotten, smelly, groan a lot.
- Vampires: blood-sucking, pale, sharp pointy teeth, able to go into sunlight, the boss vampires sparkle.
- Werewolves: not the nice kind, shapeshifting, eating/biting people, very hairy.
- Ghosts/Ghouls: typical ghost type creatures, cannot be hurt by physical attacks, can possess people, all of them jerks.
- Wendigos: monsters that specifically eat only people, creepy eyes, their spines shouldn't really bend that way. omnomnomnom
- Chupacabras: blood drinking, animal shaped, extremely creepy howling, keep your goats and children inside.

See the full plotting post here!

Have fun!!

[Zooming through the night on his new moped (thank you very much, grateful citizens of Nonah), Jacob sees bright orange flames lighting up the evening. Getting closer, he spots a school bus surrounded by creatures that look like they came out of nightmares. And there are kids screaming. Great.

Not for the first time, Jacob wishes he had gotten a gun as part of his security job. He can't help it now, though- all he can do is the best he can. His moped screeches to a halt near the bus. A Wendigo turns to face him, jaws opening wide, spine bending in impossible ways. A blue biotic glow mixes with the orange firelight as Jacob flings out an arm and sends the Wendigo flying into the air, drifting over the road as though in zero-gravity.]

Gravity's one mean mother, huh?

[With that, Jacob hops off the moped and heads over to the bus driver with the white gloves who is surrounded by fire- Roy.]

(He had seen the blue glow, of course. The contrast between it and the orange flames was hard to miss, even in the middle of a pack of strange creatures. As soon as he saw it, Roy knew that someone else was there, but he barely had enough time to register that thought before his attention was drawn to an approaching werewolf. Even amid the roar of the engulfing flames, the creature's pained howl is hard to ignore.

As Jacob approaches him, Roy spins and raises his hand in a tight snap, ready to burn him. When he realizes that the person in front of him is in fact human and not a zombie or vampire, he lowers his arm to his side but keeps it ready.)

My apologies. (There seems to be a short lull for now, but Roy can still see them coming. He glances at the bus to make sure the children are okay. Some of them are still screaming, some crying. The braver ones are pressing their faces against the glass, watching them with awe and excitement. Heroes are the coolest, right?) I admit, when they told me to pick them up from their trip, I wasn't exactly expecting this.

(He extends his other gloved hand to Jacob.)

I appreciate the help, mister...?

Taylor. Jacob Taylor. Don't worry about it- things are crazy tonight.

[Jacob gives the flame-spewing bus driver from another dimension a quick, firm handshake, marveling yet again at the government's choice in job assignments as he does. Then he turns to face the road, and the danger.]

We need to get your kids out of here. Is your bus still working?

[As he talks, Jacob sends out another blue flash at a zombie staggering towards them, Pulling the creature upward. The walking corpse moans as it flies slowly through the air, on a one-way trip toward one of the fires Roy has started.]

Colonel Roy Mustang. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Taylor.

(Although being brought here wasn't exactly the best situation, it's still amazing to see the kinds of powers that everyone has. Jacob seems to have a good grasp of how his work, which means that they're ones that he's used to. That's good to know.

And at least some of the kids seem to be enjoying watching a zombie float through the air towards its fiery death.)

That's right. There were simply too many to drive through earlier. Fortunately, it hasn't gotten too damaged since we stopped. (He hears the snarl of a werewolf charging at them and snaps, sending a flame that is a little too big for just one target.) Judging by the amount that have come so far, I doubt we are getting any closer to defeating them completely. Do you know how widespread this attack is?

Heard on the news that it's nationwide. There's hundreds of these things.

[Another zombie shambles forward. Jacob's powers still need a few seconds to cool down from their last use, so he just punches this one square in the face. It's like punching soft, mouldy wood. Jacob grimaces as the creature's jawbone disintegrates over his gloved fist.]

Damn! Okay, how's this- you get the bus moving again, I'll run interference on my moped. [He nods toward the little blue scooter.] Try to give you some space to maneuver until you reach someplace safe.

Nationwide, huh? (Hold on, snapping at another werewolf.) If that's the case, then it means they would be in danger of getting attacked no matter where we went.

(The sound of Jacob hitting a zombie is a little alarming, and Roy glances at him just in time to see the jawbone falling in pieces to the ground. There are more zombies approaching, and Roy can hear the not-so-distant growls and groans of other creatures as well. It seemed like no matter how many they took down, there was still an army of them ready to take their place. Jacob was right. They would need to get the children out of this area, or else they would be overrun.

Roy looks the moped over. It doesn't look extremely fast, and the fact that it's so open could be a problem, especially if they get overrun somehow.

The groans of two zombies brings him out of his thoughts. He snaps again, lighting both of them up before they are able to get too close.)

While getting the children to safety is certainly our top priority, the closed quarters of the school bus makes it difficult to fight in. If anything were to happen, I wouldn't be able to help as quickly as I might out here. Are you sure you would be capable of handling so many?

Don't worry. I can handle it. I can use my powers to shield myself if I get cornered.

[Jacob doesn't mention that said shield lasts three minutes at the maximum. He has a bad habit of putting himself in harm's way when it seems right more often than when it's actually necessary. This less than stellar moped-decoy plan is a great example of that habit in action.

Roy's flames have bought them some breathing room for the moment. Jacob can't see any monsters that aren't charred lifeless heaps right now. However, the sounds of inhuman hunger closing in around them makes it clear that won't last for long. He heads over to the moped, his jaw set and his mind made up.]

Unless you've got another plan, this is our shot at getting those kids off the street. I'm ready to go when you are, Colonel.
