- then put him back again -

WHO: Lucifer, monsters, and you.
WHERE: Various places around the country, NOT in Heropa, Cape Canaveral, Nonah, De Chima or Maurtia Falls.
WHEN: Saturday 16th - Sunday 17th
WHAT: Lucifer tried to go home. It didn't work out as planned. Now there are monsters! Looks like America is in need of some heroes. See the ooc cut below for more information.
WARNINGS: Violence, monsters; things that happen when violence and monsters are in the same place. Please tag your threads if anything extra is needed.

Over the past month Lucifer had been systematically making his way through Northern America, stopping in specific locations and making sacrifices. Neither the people he had killed, nor the places he had chosen had been random- and the evidence of this was that he now stood in the center of a spell which spanned most of North America.

The center was, as luck would have it, a graveyard somewhere near Lawrence, Kansas.

There was something about this world that limited Lucifer- the encounters he had had with heroes so far had shown that he was neither as durable nor as powerful as he was used to. He had no desire to stay here any longer than necessary. He had been told that what he was trying was impossible- and honestly, that was probably true for humans. But if people were being brought here there had to be cracks in this world that he could tear open to escape.

Since the full moon had risen on Thursday he had been in place in the cemetery- summoning the spirits of the sacrifices he had made and one by one using them to power the spell. He took his time, confident that no one would interrupt him, and careful- doing this twice was not an option.

The eastern sky was turning grey as the final soul was put in place and Lucifer started on the words of the spell proper. It was complicated, designed to seek out weak spots in the fabric of the world and rip them open so that he could slip through. It probably wouldn't break this world- not that Lucifer cared much either way.

The spell almost immediately began to slip out of his control. The power contained in the souls of all the humans he had killed tried to pull the spell apart, fighting him as he attempted to unify them and force them to do his will. Slowly they came together, and anyone sensitive to such things would have felt him testing the limits of the world.

The world held together.

Lucifer was not the kind to explode with rage. His anger burned cold- and the knowledge that he had been wrong- that even this would not get him home- made him seethe. Very well. If he was to stay here, then he might as well put all that power to good use. Make his captors regret they had ever thought to bring him here.

He worked quickly, to avoid losing the power he had spent so long to build up. Resurrection was a simple spell, comparatively speaking. Transformation was a little harder- but turning humans into reflections of their true natures was a speciality of his. He spoke the words and the spells were cast.

The sun was just clearing the edge of the horizon when he was done. Across the country people would be waking up to a pleasant surprise- ghouls and ghosts raised, corpses resurrected and transformed into creatures who would seek out and kill any humans in their way.

Lucifer stayed in the cemetery, gathering his strength.

[ooc information]

Characters can:
- help wear Lucifer down (reply here)
- search for and destroy monsters either together or individually (make your own thread as a reply)
- get turned into monsters themselves! T'Challa can turn them back, or they can be killed (which will need mod approval)
- keep track of where monster sightings are and direct heroes to them (either here, or make a network post)
- stay at home and watch it all on tv!

Monsters are:
- Zombies: your standard walking dead, rotten, smelly, groan a lot.
- Vampires: blood-sucking, pale, sharp pointy teeth, able to go into sunlight, the boss vampires sparkle.
- Werewolves: not the nice kind, shapeshifting, eating/biting people, very hairy.
- Ghosts/Ghouls: typical ghost type creatures, cannot be hurt by physical attacks, can possess people, all of them jerks.
- Wendigos: monsters that specifically eat only people, creepy eyes, their spines shouldn't really bend that way. omnomnomnom
- Chupacabras: blood drinking, animal shaped, extremely creepy howling, keep your goats and children inside.

See the full plotting post here!

Have fun!!

Some things were not surprising.

This was definitely one of them.

Loki's on high alert ever since his pseudo-epic failure at the last point of Lucifer's consideration. They had made it managed through some sorcerous technicalities to buy themselves enough time to lock off the point. Of course it didn't stop the killing—Lucifer's tenacity would be admirably if it wasn't downright insane.

He's not watching from far, and he can definitely see that one of these things is not like the others!

With the mutter of a spell he heads closer, unafraid of the little creepies that had been summoned as an unfortunate byproduct of Lucifer's ambition. Loki saves the "I told you so"s (but tucks them away for later) and approaches without intention of combat (but ready if it came to that, he brought his Tide pen).

"We had a talk about elegance," but his tone is curious rather than accusing. "You tried. What are you going to do now?"

Somewhere along the line of this hot, violent mess Loki had realized that not only was Lucifer's megalomanic ambition bound for a few hiccups along the road, especially with the problems that both he and Gabriel had caused. Loki's still a little sore that they really served as nothing more than pranks, but it saved a few lives in the process. Unfortunately, those lives were just mounted against others in the fight toward the cross. (There was a part of him that was a little uncomfortable with the prospect—and he wishes he could just brush it off his shoulder and be done with it. It wasn't just the loss of mortal life, but it was the way that Lucifer regarded it. It struck close enough to home to be cause for defiance.) After he had pried a little further he had found that whatever power they were given was probably not enough to break through (even for America Chavez, but he had yet to test that theory), contrary to Lucifer's grand scheme.

Despite the brand on his wrist, he wasn't much of a hero, and didn't exactly claim to be (registration was funny that way). The monsters and other merriment would be taken care of soon enough by ... well, heroes. There were plenty of them here, and he didn't need to play the part. His presence would be good for anyone he knew off-hand that needed him to vouch for them (oh, the irony, Loki vouching for someone) as vigilantes.

It took a simple spell to track Lucifer again, and he put himself not far from the action. For someone like him, it was easy to side-step a few of the more ambitious beasts that decided that he looked like a bit of Loki-jerky. They were unpleasantly surprised. He wasn't exactly here to fight, and he wasn't really here to save anyone, really—but there was action, there was closure, and at the point of chaos, there was no where else that he would rather find himself.

What Kay knows about this whole biz...she just learned from Sam. And will probably improvise along the way. Leading the way are three crows flying in a triangle formation. Every now and again, one will separate from the group and return to report in crow-speak. Or frantically fly back and warn the rest of the group away in case there are too many creepy monsters for three birds and the Crow Whisperer.

So, you can either run into her doing detective work (despite being a thief), or...

OPTION B:

During the whole Mechanical sharks thing T'Challa was too slow to act (At least in his mind) and a number of people died because of it. He wasn’t planning on letting the same thing happen here. So after throwing on the Panther suit, he quickly went into action.

The zombies and chupacabre are the easiest to deal with and first ones he focuses on. During the chaos people might notice that there are multiple man-hole’s that have been uncovered with flashing bright lights and a high pitched noise coming from inside the sewers (both are being made from small, simple devices that T'Challa home-brewed). These things start to attract the attention of the zombies and by the undead rushing over, some of them actually fall down into the sewers. There, T’Challa has taken the liberty of removing the ladders so they can’t get back up, and placing a few traps to keep them occupied. Eh, he'll deal with them later

Chupacabre he lured into bear traps, turning dangerous monsters into... less... dangerous creatures. With a bear trap wrapped snuggly around their ankles, it was a lot harder for these beasts to walk, let along hunt down or kill anyone.

You are free to notice T'Challa setting up the traps or even the traps themselves in action. Chances are he'll be nearby anyway!

[2]

Now fighting the OTHER creatures was another story. As someone who used to have enough strength that he could snap a charging Rhino’s neck, it was fair to say that he overestimated his abilities a bit. This wasn’t helping him when he got himself overwhelmed and was currently fighting about half a dozen werewolves all at once. It’s fair to say that he is getting tossed about a good bit. Getting thrown into buildings, slammed on top of cars, and nearly getting his guts clawed out was pretty standard in this fight. He was good enough to keep himself alive but um. Halp plz

Even if he ttly doesn’t need it or anything, he got this, rly.

[Tech-Exorcism]

Is your character not feeling well? Maybe they were possessed by some monstrous insane ghost or are turning into a monster themselves!? Do you need a priest? Well we don't have one of those. But we do have shotty portable tech-exorcism equipment that was built on an Assistant Manager budget and doesn't work very well, but gets the job done!

Yeah, sure, he's totally got it. He definitely doesn't need Ace's help. Unfortunately, Ace intends on lending it regardless of certain clear and obvious facts (cough yeah right cough).

T'challa will find himself suddenly down one werewolf as it makes the grand mistake of looking up briefly at the sound of something else charging in. All it gets to do is make a humorously surprised noise before it's gone, knocked off the top of the car it had T'challa pinned to seconds ago by a very angry-sounding black and white mass of fur. Now the fight's down in the street, all snarling and biting, quite literally a dog fight considering what the werewolf is now fighting is a dog.

option A:
It wasn't being cowardly. No, of course not. Starscream wasn't a coward. It was...a tactical observation from the sidelines. There we go. Not cowardly hiding and waiting to see if this would boil over.

And yet, Starscream was definitely a ways away from the main conflict and the monsters, just watching them. He had absolutely no experience with vampires, werewolves, or the rest and didn't even know what they were. So far they were "groaning humans," "pale humans," "broken humans," and so on and so forth.

So, during his 'tactical observation,' he regards everything with more than a slight bit of suspicion.

option B:
And really, he could have used more suspicion because Starscream totally got eaten by a wendigo. His corpse lies on the ground, bitten and bloody. The wendigo that had been nomming on him has wandered off by now, leaving Starscream on the ground, utterly dead and totally not breathing.

Oops.

Still, it's a good thing that one of his powers is immortality. His forehead glows blue for a moment, thanks to the now-visible shard of the All-Spark lodged in there and Starscream violently jolts back to life, sitting straight upright, bruises, teeth-marks and bloody wounds instantly fading away.

"Get that thing away from me!" he yells, putting his arms in front of his face. "It--oh. It's gone." Lowering his arms, Starscream gives a tentative look around, as if he expects another wendigo to suddenly appear and start chewing down. Thankfully, there aren't any nearby...but is that a zombie slowly becoming more and more visible? Whoops. It totally is.

option a!

[ location: wherever there are werewolves, tbh ]

Monsters. It's a topic Ace knew enough about, so long as all he was really expected to do was put an end to their rampages. He would have offered his help regardless, even if the reports had not included those creatures, but they had, and right on the tail end of a full moon at that. There wasn't even a second thought about volunteering to help with the werewolves. Maybe it's him letting his anger make him so adamant about going after them, maybe it's revenge, maybe it's just better if he's the one in biting range when he can't truly get infected by them...

Whatever the excuse, it doesn't matter. He's here, he can do this, no one else has to get hurt. Keeping that in mind, he's ranging on ahead of whoever else is tagging along in the particular town they've set down in when he stops suddenly and doubles back, nose to the street as he casts about for a particular trail.

"Huh. That's not right..."

Well... okay, Dog he GUESS you can help with things if you REALLY want to-- wait a DOG!? It causes T'Challa to raise an eyebrow while the other werewolves also look over in surprise to see that a dog was able to not only able to tackle one of them down, but fight on even grounds as well. This may have been a strange turn of events for T'Challa, but he didn't let it distract him as long as the other werewolves did. In a few quick motions he brought two of the werewolves to their knees by putting precise strikes to their pressure points.

And with another he slammed it's head through one of the windshields of the car he was just on top of. At the very least he wasn't getting his butt kicked. It's the little things.

A: Among the police and special forces, near the final confrontation with Lucifer

[Edgeworth is no fighter, and never will be. He's not here, near the epicenter of the man's murders, to engage with Lucifer. He's here because he's worked doggedly, endlessly, to track the man down, because he knows the details of every murder and every crime. He's here consulting with the police and with the other heroes, guiding them to where Lucifer is, ready to deal with the man once he's arrested.

(He's also here because he insisted upon it. He couldn't be kept away.)]

B: More in need of a rescue because he is a useless princess

[When the chaos truly breaks loose, unfortunately, Edgeworth is essentially useless. The ghouls and vampires and werewolves attack the police formation viciously, and while the locals put up a spirited and competent defense, Edgeworth is not amongst those who are fighting back. Instead, he withdraws, as far from the fighting as possible. He's not afraid, or about to flee: instead, he's staying out of the way as he furiously studies these creatures, trying to analyze them - trying to remember Sam Winchester's advice on how to fight these things. It's information that the officers need so that they can neutralize the threat.

Unfortunately, the attention he pays these creatures means that he's not heeding his surroundings well enough. And so he doesn't notice something coming from his right - ]

She'd missed the attack in Miami, but she definitely wasn't about to be on the sidelines this time. After being dropped off near the epicenter, Eiko would begin fighting her way through all manner of beasties, thankful that her strength hadn't been diminished at all.

Eventually, she'd actually stumble across that graveyard where Lucifer had performed the ritual in the first place. Spotting him a short ways away, Eiko would recognize him from his message on the network about the town in Illinois. He was the culprit and he had to be stopped.

(The police force was easy to spot with all those uniformed officers, and with so many monsters appearing from, seemingly, nowhere, Roy initially decided to try and cover as much area as possible by spreading out away from them. His position could more or less be determined by the explosions of fire a little ways off. But there were a lot more than there were before.

When he had enough time and space, Roy began to make his way back to where the force was. It would be much easier to take care of these monsters if there were a) more people and b) a point where the monsters were as concentrated as possible.

He just has enough time to analyze that there's a familiar face among the crowd, when he spots an extremely creepy...thing with bared teeth and a weirdly bent spine targeting the man wearing a frilly cravat!

Roy snaps, sending a roaring flame past Edgeworth and engulfing the Wendigo. Then, in typical smug fashion when he's close enough:)

Seems you could use some help, Mr. Edgeworth.

A: May 17th 6:00 PM - Downers Grove, Illinois (20 mins outside Chicago)

A few hoard of monsters seem to be coming from the suburbs and making their way towards the cities. A few Western suburbs have already been hit, but the locals have mostly been evacuated. Sam's hope is to get rid of this hoard at the edge of town before they reach the city and wreck more havoc.

He sent out a call for help and his location, but he wouldn't be surprised if he was on his own in this. It sucks not having the backup he would usually have in his big brother, but there's not much he can do about it now. There's a train track that cuts halfway through town, and he managed to convince locals to stop a long freight train there, effectively walling the monsters in.

Standing on top of one of the freights, the sun all but set behind him, he still manages to get a clear view of the approaching monsters. He's got his gun in his hand and a rifle by his feet. As soon as a werewolf comes streaking towards him, he takes a clear shot, killing it dead. But there are plenty more monsters behind that one, coming up on the dozens. Sam continues to calmly shoot, over and over - but he's not sure he can take on this many on his own.

B: May 18th 2:00 AM - Pittsburgh, Philadelphia

Most of the monsters in the city have been rounded up and dealt with, but Sam's main concern now are the ones who the monsters tried to convert. He requested for all monster bodies but the vampires to be burned, just to be safe. Just because the rules are different in this universe doesn't mean he wants to risk any nasty biters coming back to life.

Currently, he's at the medical center that's been set up, trying to find the victims that vampires tried to convert. Unlike those bitten by werewolves, these people can be converted back to humans with an antidote Sam knows. But he'll need help. He needs to find the body of the vampire who converted the person and get their blood, needs to gather ingredients to get the antidote done as soon as possible, needs to get the people who were converted by the vampires restrained so that they don't drink any human blood. Around twenty ended up being converted to vampires, and he won't be able to handle them all on his own.

Worst of all, he needs to kill the humans who were bitten by werewolves before they turn. Sadly enough, there is no antidote for them, as Sam knows all too well from trying to find one in the past. Unfortunately, some people can't be saved. It's a fact he's known for a long time.

The whole thing absolutely stank of foul play, Gabriel keeping himself busy and purposefully away from where Lucifer is. He is so on Lucifer's shitlist right now it's not even funny in any shape or form, Gabriel having gone underground to stay out of sight. That was until Lucifer decided to open a can of worms on the world in typical "toys out of the pram" fashion.

And whilst he would have been expected to go running to his brother, Gabriel makes sure to go the opposite direction. He doesn't even know Sam is there originally, the symbols on the kid's ribs still doing their job. The archangel is more drawn to the medical center, to see what he can do in a limit capacity. There'd been word about werewolves, always a nasty business. Gabriel can at least do that part, already rolling his sleeves up and pausing as he spots a familiar, moose-like person nearby.

Sometimes Gabriel has to wonder just how he manages to run into the Winchesters time and time again, even when he doesn't want to. There's going to be some bullshit sermon about not stopping his brother, and all that blah blah with a side of self righteous irritated yadda yadda. At least Gabriel can keep Sam away from Kansas this way, last thing anyone needing was Lucifer's vessel showing up. He needs to get Sam's focus and attention in some way that would hold it.

Gabriel pauses in what he's doing, making eye contact with Sam before rolling his eyes and shrugging with an irate expression. And then he quite simply just turns his back on the kid, already making a move to pick up a box of supplies.

Sam currently doesn't know a thing about Lucifer and Kansas, though who knows what he would do if he found out. Right now though, he's needed here, and wherever else vamps decided to convert more of there own - which is an awful lot of places. He used his tattoo to communicate the antidote to other locations, and to tell the heroes and authorities to lock up the converted as soon as possible while they make the antidote.

He's currently leading a handcuffed man to the pile of vamp bodies, most of which are, thankfully, not beheaded, thanks to the rules in this universe. He hates to traumatize the guy more, but he needs to know which vamp bit him if this antidote is going to work. He'd just asked him if he recognized any of them, really hoping that he does, when he spots Gabriel by the tents. He pauses a bit, staring, unsure as always of what his plan are doing here.

He sends the guy back with two guards once he's indentified him, and Sam pulls out his machete to quickly cut an artery or two open and gather as much blood as he can in a jar. Once he does, he carries it back over to medical, but cutting over to Gabriel on his way.

"What are you doing here?" He hisses, putting the jar of blood on the table to grab and empty box to gather ingredients in. His voice isn't accusatory, but it's not exactly pleased. For all Sam knows, Gabriel planned this whole thing out with Lucifer.

Gabriel has to admit that seeing Sam going off to do the vampire thing instead of just rushing over....well it's impressive. He, personally, would have gone straight over for any details. Will-power is just one of those things. Whilst Sam is otherwise occupied, Gabriel actually makes himself a bit useful, carting boxes of supplies around. He even goes as far as to make little noises as he picks each box up, the people around him are already freaked out without having to deal with an angel too. Gabriel will act the part, unlike some, he knows how to play his role when needed.

When Sam actually catches up with him, Gabriel still has a few boxes in his arms, raising an eyebrow at the kid and looking thoroughly unimpressed. "What does it look like, Sammy? I'm helping out. Heard through the grapevine that crap was going down, and thought I'd take a look. Or is that against your hunter code or whatever it is you guys like to follow?"

While T'Challa takes the others down, Ace's own fight comes to an end. It's all over once he can get his jaws around the werewolf's throat, because it looks like the dog is here to play for keeps. The crunch is soft, but audible, and then he's stepping away from the body. The smell of blood is nerve-wracking, but he'll endure. He's done this before, he can manage it again.

He shakes out anything left in his mouth and turns to look at the remaining werewolves that T'Challa's taken down, then up at T'Challa himself.

"Make sure they aren't going to get back up. These things recover fast."

Option A: Protect the children!

(The children were the ones who noticed them first. Roy initially thought their screams and exclamations of, "Ewwww, what is that thing!" and, "IT LOOKS LIKE A BOOGER" were due to some kid bringing something strange for show and tell on the bus. But when the screams changed to a universal horrified shriek, Roy finally glanced in his mirrors to see a horde of strange monsters closing in on them.

He accelerates, but driving through them would be difficult. There were so many, and one wrong turn could send the bus toppling over. When he's put enough distance between them, he parks the bus on the corner of a sidewalk and slips on his gloves. After calming the children down a bit, he goes outside and snaps, sending a wall of flame at the closest ones.

A school bus is large, and Roy is only capable of seeing so much around it. They're coming from all sides, and the children are getting frantic as more and more seem to arrive! A little help would be nice.)

Option B: Name that monster!

(These monsters are unlike any Roy has encountered before, which means it's time to get to know them. Maybe there are a bunch of dead vampire bodies, or maybe they are watching the zombies from afar. No matter what the situation, Roy's got his notebook out, turned to the page with his notes on Lucifer. Is that what grabs your attention, or is it that really hairy werewolf making its way over? Whatever it is, let's just try and avoid those chupacabras.)

Not for the first time, Jacob wishes he had gotten a gun as part of his security job. He can't help it now, though- all he can do is the best he can. His moped screeches to a halt near the bus. A Wendigo turns to face him, jaws opening wide, spine bending in impossible ways. A blue biotic glow mixes with the orange firelight as Jacob flings out an arm and sends the Wendigo flying into the air, drifting over the road as though in zero-gravity.]

By this point in his life as an ImPort, Jacob Taylor is entirely resigned to just Rolling With It. Kidnapped to another dimension in the 21st century? He'll simply have to manage and adapt. Supernatural attacks across the country? Fine, he throws on his jacket and goes to where he seems needed. Hunting werewolves alongside a talking superpowered dog who seems to know more about these kinds of enemies than Jacob has ever heard of? Okay, all right, sure, he will go along with it.

All that matters is limiting the number of people getting hurt by these things. Jacob will follow the lead of a talking mosquito if it means getting the job done. At least Ace has a good nose for this kind of thing. When Ace stops, Jacob does too.

"What is it?"
