[For some reason that thought has her stomach twisting in a knot. Maybe adding reality to the situation? There was a difference in knowing she was in a new dimension and in seeing proof of it, even in tiny reminders like this.]

[A nod as she sinks back in her chair again.]

Really new. We got here the day they evacuated everyone from Heropa.

[That's almost a relief. Nonah 05 became unrecognizable sometime after he ...left.. for good. There was no explanation, nothing - just tons of people and a lot of questions he's never asking.

Like where Charlie was.]

Then what're you doing here? Heropa's fine now, right?

Oh, we're just waiting for Kazu-kun to recuperate enough to come back to Heropa.

Kazu?

[That gets his full, undivided attention.]

You know Kazu?

[She perks up too, finally looking directly at him curiously.]

Well . . . yeah. We're from the same world. I was brought here along with two of our other friends.

[iamtetsuo]

That guy from earlier... that's why I know him!

[Is this going to make sense? Maybe.]

[learntofly]

[Yyyeah not entirely.]

Which guy??

[iamtetsuo]

Forget it. It's not important.

[Tetsuo you can't DO that to people.]

[learntofly]

At least tell me if it was a guy who gave you trouble or not. That'll narrow it down.

[There's like three people it could be. This won't be hard to figure out.]

[With a completely straight face:]

He gave me ramen.

[As if it was some grave and terrible injustice.]

[Either Akito or Ikki then. And with that kind of tone . . .]

Ikki-kun? . . . I'm sorry I don't have any explanation for him.

That's the guy.

[And that name...even if he didn't get it out of Ikki, he'd know it from Kazu.]

He must like you if he's already giving you food.

What's that supposed to mean?

It means he's a greedy pig who only gives food away if he's really interested in someone.

[iamtetsuo]

Why would he have any interest in me?

[His hand grips at the jacket sleeve, looking away a moment. There is nothing more painful than finding out you're always going to matter so much less in the grand scheme of things than you thought.]

[She shrugs helpfully. (Not.)]

Who knows. He saw something he liked, and that's it. Maybe he'll explain one day if he feels like it.

[And... starts up another game.]

[Yep, this seems like a correct reaction. The first step of something she's already familiar with herself.

She smiles and turns her attention back to the tv to watch.]

You'll get used to it.

[iamtetsuo]

Doubt it.

[Metama2: revenge of the rhinolephants. First run to that stage, and he seems to have memorized the pattern by now, correctly dodging and timing the spike monsters.

But then. In comes that stupid tuskslinger, charging in and hopping around because, of course, both elephants and rhinos are known for their superior jumping capabilities. He doesn't die right away. Oh no. He just can't seem to hit it without taking damage.

The end of his first life looms on the horizon.]

We all did . . .

[She trails off quietly and inches forward in her seat, transfixed and practically holding her breath to see if he scrapes by this time or not.]

[iamtetsuo]

[It shoots a tusk at him. He jumps too late, somehow managing to clip JUST underneath it as it zips by over his head. His character shoots hastily at the spot the tusk was attached to before it regenerates, taking damage when it does, never letting up fire anyway.

His health bar whittles down.

The rhinolephant hops backwards.

A few bullets deflect off the incoming tusk. Tetsuo's character jumps--

...and both explode into sparks.

welp.

Tetsuo growls something, frustrated, head tilting back to stare at the ceiling. Why.]
