[It was either Charlie or Ken who put away the twins' stray clothes neatly so Ken has no trouble finding it. He walks into the bathroom again, satisfied that Dipper's hopped in, but he sees the discarded towel and only the towel, and he frowns at the shower curtain.]

Why are you still wearing that?

[ursawhiner]

[At the sound of Ken's voice, Dipper startles, nearly slipping in the tub.]

I'm not gonna to be in your house-- [He continues in a harsh whisper.] naked.

[amadaman]

You say that after you literally ran through town like that? It's dirty -- you're in a shower! I'll bring you a trash bag so just toss it out.

[ursawhiner]

I was worried about you! And this loincloth is proof of my manhood!

--Or something.

[He's aware that these excuses aren't going to fly with Ken.]

[amadaman]

Well, I'm alive.

... So please get rid of that and get cleaned and warm before you get sick because I'm concerned about you.

[ursawhiner]

[Now the guilt comes crashing in.]

...Okay.

[A pause.]

Could you uh, leave first, though?

[amadaman]

[Ken sets down the clothes and blinks.]

... Oh. Um, okay. I'll be outside, then.

[The door closes behind him.]

[ursawhiner]

[Dipper shucks out of the loincloth and quickly rinses off, opening the door fully dressed and with loincloth in hand.]

Thanks. Sorry about being weird.

[amadaman]

[Ken has in his hands: a broom that he gathered the spilled dog food with, and a plastic bag in which he collected said food that he now holds out so Dipper can drop the loincloth in it. It's trash.

Ken's definitely alive, and he's relatively unhurt. There's a lot you can get rid of when you can use healing magic. He looks more tired than he usually is, though, as he shakes his head.]

It's a lot to come back to. So you and your family were okay?

[ursawhiner]

Yeah, we were just out in the swamp. Grunkle Stan managed to get pizza delivered out there. Not that me and Mabel got any...

[There are other more important things to talk about now, though.]

Are you okay? You were fighting, right?

[amadaman]

[Ken holds the bag in one hand and takes Dipper's now clean hand in the other. He doesn't squeeze it tightly, but he holds it tighter than he would usually. Right now, having anything to hold is a source of comfort. He's quiet as he leads him toward the kitchen where he also started boiling water earlier. A couple packs of hot cocoa sit on the kitchen table.]

... We got Tetsuo-san back. Kaneda-san got him back. Everything's okay now.

[But he pauses. Then he turns his head toward him.]

I'm, can I ask you a favor?

[ursawhiner]

[Tetsuo. He died. That's what he's been told anyways. And Ken cares about him. So Dipper only nods when Ken says everything's okay. Even though Ken looks anything but okay.]

Sure. I'm just... sorry I wasn't here for you.

[amadaman]

[He shakes his head]

That's not your fault. I'm happy you were safe. If you were there, I don't know if we'd... if I could've kept you safe.

[With that, Ken drops the trash bag and faces Dipper, dropping his head on his shoulder. He's quiet for a few seconds, holding his breath, then,] Stay like this for a while?

[ursawhiner]

[Dipper's arms come up instinctively, hugging Ken tight.

He nods, cheek brushing Ken's hair.]

Yeah. Of course.

[amadaman]

[Ken's arms wrap tightly around him too. His hands grasp the fabric of his new shirt.]

Thank you for coming. I wanted to see you, I wasn't sure what happened to you.

[ursawhiner]

[Oh no. Ken had been really worried about him. And Dipper was fine just frolicking with wolves and making friends with swamp apes.]

We were fine! I am fine. Promise.

[amadaman]

[Ken never stopped worrying. If he want fretting over something, there was a whole list of other things to worry about. Dipper was someone who never left his mind even while he pushed everything but taking Pan down to the back of his mind. Right now, relief at seeing Dipper washes over him.]

I know. I'm so glad. When I thought something could've happened to you too, I got scared.

[He holds him close.]

A lot of people got hurt.

[ursawhiner]

Next time I'll try to call you. No matter what. Even if I have to send out a smoke signal!

[He's not used to having to think about people worrying about him. And Ken... deserves better. Dipper has to do better.]

It's over now, right?

[amadaman]

[Bothering Dipper so much with his neuroses is one of Ken's least favorite things. He doesn't want to tie him to any promises, but this, he thinks -- this he can get away with, right? He'd rather annoy Dipper a little with unnecessary amounts of checking on him than lose him and regret not paying more attention. He nods against his shoulder.]

He's going to come back. People don't go away in this world. He'll get locked away for a while, but he'll always come back. Just like Crane. But we beat him this time. No matter what he threatens you with, I'll protect you.

[ursawhiner]

You don't have to protect me.

[He tries to put as much conviction as he can into the statement. But Dipper knows better than anyone else his own limitations. Even in a world where everyone has superpowers, he's still pretty useless in a straight fight. No matter what Ford invents for him, he still won't hold a candle to Ken's powers and experience.]

Pan's just... a huge jerk. He can't do much now that everyone knows about him. It's hard to trick people when they don't trust you.

[amadaman]

I'm not worried about him tricking you. He'll come to hurt people in other ways. I'm sure he will.

[He shakes his head and wraps his arms around Dipper, one around his shoulders and the other around his middle.]

I want to protect you. And if anything happens, I'll come save you.

[ursawhiner]

...Okay. And I'll try not to get into trouble. You-- you try to do the same.

[He knows it's pointless to ask Ken to promise to not do anything dangerous. It's not in his nature.]

[amadaman]

[Ken's quiet as he tries to bite back an apology. Whether it's him looking for trouble, or trouble finding him, he knows that he'll cause Dipper to worry just as much as he worries about him.]

... I will. If I need you, I'll come to you. I'll ask you, like I did now. Will that be okay?

[ursawhiner]

Yeah. Yeah that's-- that sounds good. Hopefully we won't need to resort to that for awhile.

I'm always here for you, y'know?

[amadaman]

[And that about does it. For a brief moment, it seems like Ken is going to fall silent, stay like this until he pulls away and tries to go about life as usual. But he doesn't pull alway, and instead leans on Dipper a little more with a feeble hope that it might make him feel better.

I'm always here for you. He and Dipper didn't always talk about serious things, and they yelled at each other about a lot of stupid things, but Dipper always, always was here for him. Even when Ken tried to push away his help.

Ken doesn't say anything, but he buries his face against Dipper's shoulder, and it's with a sniffle that he eventually breaks the silence.]
