[Kaneda smiles, turning to Dalish and muttering something in Japanese, something like "I told you to stop doing that~"

The cat may not understand, but she gets his mood from it, and rubs against his face.]

Hey, sit down.

[As he reaches up into the cupboard, pulling out two mugs. One that Dick gave him for Christmas, and the one Ken had made him. The one with his name on it.]

I'm making tea.

Oh-- you don't have to do that!

[She responds almost reflexively, raising her hands as if to stop him.]

I can take care of it if you want me to!

[She isn't refusing tea-- no, she could never! But she's in on Kaneda's charity here, yeah? She should be helping...]

[rassera]

[His hands slowly set the mugs on the counter, brows raised up in surprise.]

Eh?

It's fine, Maya, I've made tea before...


[Her insistence surprises him. Not that he thinks she would want to be waited on hand and foot, but..she's a little too eager.]

Oh.

[Whoops. She didn't mean to imply that.

...She supposes, technically she is a guess. It probably comes across rude, she decides, and she pulls her fingers through the long locks of hair at the her temples.]

Sorry. I'm-- sure, I'll take some.

[She goes to sit down.]

[rassera]

[He smiles, brushing the even-more-than-usual unkempt hair out of his eyes as he sets the mug with his name on it in front of her (She'd probably appreciate Ken's work more), dropping a teabag in it and doing the same for his own, setting it perpendicular to her.]

Not bitter, right?

[Not that he purposely knows how to make tea bitter...or even if his own taste is bitter. He was on the street he probably didn't have a lot of options for all that great water anyway.

But he'd try.]

Nope.

[She smiles up at him, shrugging her shoulders, then smiles down at the mug. He's right-- she does appreciate Ken's handiwork.

She puts on a playful smile, adding--]

I'm too sweet myself for stuff like that, you know.

[rassera]

Yeah? Careful, if you make your tea too sweet, you won't be able to taste the...

[Hold on, he's grabbing the box for a moment...and then holding it out to her.]

Whatever this says.

[She takes it-- frowns.]

...Kaneda, you just buy this stuff without looking?

[It's not quite scolding, but she does sound concerned.]

This could be like, decaf or diet tea.

[Which is like, a sin.]

[rassera]

[His face drops a little.]

I look.


I just can't read it, alright?

...it tasted alright.

You can ask for help, y'know.

[She looks at the box, pursing her lips to look at it, like she's trying very hard to find a solution to this.]

Next time you go to the store, I'll go with you. We can try a couple different types.

Did I get the wrong one?

[He's leaning over her now, squinting at the box as if that would help him read the English moonrunes some more.] It had a green box and a panda...

[Can you tell he went by teenager logic.]

[As Kaneda leans closer, Maya pulls the box away and closer to her, as to conceal it-- or perhaps as to encourage him to further incline.]

That's not the point. You coulda.

[rassera]

[Oh no you don't. Arms read around her, trying to grab for that box in a...this is kinda like a hug, isn't it.]

But I didn't, did I~?

[For a second, Kaneda might catch a glimpse of Maya's cheshire cat grin before she closes the distance between them to press her lips not quite against his, but right at the corner of his mouth, all the while holding (or at least, attempting to) the box out of Kaneda's reach.]

But you coulda.

[She didn't forget that game, Kaneda.

And you did come back, even if you did it without staying unhurt. So the game's still on.]

[Kaneda's eyes snap open wide, feeling those lips brush against the corner of his mouth, as gentle as he remembers. It's downright teasing too, the way she holds that box away, only pressing to the side of his mouth...


That kettle whistles, all too perfectly at that exact moment, Kaneda blinking like a deer in the headlights a moment. You'd think he'd start getting used to this...]

Well I guess I could use an...expert in this kind of thing.

[Yes, he's trying to salvage that moment into something smooth, straightening up a little to go...grab that water.

Stupid timing.]

[Maya starts giggling, but this time it sure as hell is not in embarrassment.

Spoilers: it's at the look on his face.]

Yeah, I'm an expert in English and tea, alright.

[What a dork.]

[rassera]

[Her giggle gets a smile out of him at least, quickly shutting the stove off to grab the kettle, silencing it from its whistle.]

Every time I think I've got you figured out, you surprise me~

[As he comes back, he reaches his arm around her again, not to take the box, but to pour the hot water into the mug.]

What can I say?

[She asks, a sarcastic grin crossing her face as she straightens up in her chair, keeping that aura of victoriousness as she keeps an eye on him.]

I'm a mysterious girl.

An enigma wrapped in mystery.

[rassera]

[His head leans closer, enough for him to whisper.]

Well, enigma wrapped in mystery, your tea's done.

[He may linger a second longer than originally intended, but that's only to give her one of those smirks of his, before sliding over to do the same to his mug.]

You better tell me how I did.

[Without breaking her gaze, Maya keeps an eye on him as he walks over to his seat. She picks up the mug of tea, eyes still on him, and smiles into her cup when she blows away the steam and takes a sip.

Of course, she drags that sip out, simply because he said to tell him how he did.]

[rassera]

[After pouring himself some tea to steep, he returns the kettle to the stove, quietly dropping it off before making his way back. To say he was anticipating Maya's assessment was putting it a little bit lightly.

Don't mind if he just sliiiiides into that chair, looping fingers through his mug's handle.]


Sooooooo?

[Maya's eyes squint into happy half-circles while she smiles past her mug, trying very hard not to start giggling again. It's strange-- a nice strange-- that he looks to her approval in these situations. She finally puts the mug down and nods.]

I like it.
