She looks a little uncomfortable then, swallowing and leaning the mug around to look at Ken's handiwork.]

And for a while it was just she and I and her mother and my sister.

[Oh, that's right...Maya had told him about the thing with her sister. In fact, it was the whole reason she was here at Nonah 05 at all. He bites his lip a bit cautiously, raising his mug up to sip his tea in thought. ]

[She really, really wants to say it wasn't that bad. But Morgan prided herself on making green tea so bitter your tongue would fall off. And she liked it that way.

So all Maya can manage is a noncommittal eeehhhhh noise, shrugging a shoulder.]

[Maya's voice pitters off into something a bit more meek, and she sighs.

Why is it so hard to place how she feels about Morgan?]

[Kaneda's got no horse in the race here. He doesn't have family, and doesn't know the bonds that come with it. Sure, Tetsuo was that exception, but it wasn't a family dynamic by far.]

What's she like?

[This is the second time someone's asked her about Morgan since that case.

And Maya hesitates visibly, mouth half open to talk as she taps her fingers against the sides of the cup, searching for the words. Morgan's image paints itself in the back of her mind like a shadow hanging over her, pulling at her throat.

What does she say? What is Morgan like?

Nothing she thought of Morgan was real, not... not now, not now that she'd tried to kill Maya. There really was no love in Morgan left for her, was there?]

[The adjectives fail her, and she gestures with her hand as if to get the words going.

Things were better when she could push it back from her memory, pretend it never happened, refuse to confront the feelings that on the witness stand had made her want to run away from Kurain forever.]

[You know, of all the answers he expected--which ranged from her taste in tea to her seemingly prickly personality--"in jail" wasn't on the list. Hell, it didn't even make it into the top 10.

He practically chokes on his tea, barely getting it down with a slap of his fist to hi chest and a few coughs to get air back into his lungs.]

[Maya relaxes from her former position, which had been 'REACHING HELPLESSLY OVER THE TABLE AS IF TO DO SOMETHING BUT NOT BEING IN ANY POSITION TO DO ANYTHING EFFECTIVE' and buries her face in her hands. This is not what she wanted out of this conversation holy shit]

[His hand goes out to reassure her, casting a smile on his face to let her know it was okay. It'd just gone down wrong was all, and with a little clearing of his throat, he seems to be at least back together.

Because now he has to process that whole thing again.]

[She starts to play with her hair, shrugging helplessly.]
