WHAT: Age plot kickoff!
WARNINGS: Cuteness.

[ LET'S GET THIS PARTY OFFICIALLY STARTED! Opening events so we don't do too much comm flooding (although people are welcome to make their own posts for the event). You're welcome to toplevel with your character if you'd like to have them show up somewhere else for this plot.

[ It is indeed Charlie who opens the door, but probably not Charlie as Kasumi remembers him. In fact, this is not Kasumi as Charlie remembers her, so he's puzzled by the unfamiliar face.

Still, whether he's ten or eighty, there's nothing Charlie hates more than to see someone upset ] Hey, are you lost?

[stealwithit]

[ her voice when she responds is small and muffled, with the way she clutches her bear up to her face. It seems that whether she's 26 or 8, Kasumi doesn't like showing her face right away. ]

I'm looking for my friend Charlie...

[animated]

Oh! You have a friend named Charlie? That's my name too!

[stealwithit]

[ the Charlie that Kasumi knows is older, and taller, that's for sure, so she's a little disappointed when this Charlie isn't her Charlie. ]

You don't know my Charlie, do you...? He has hair like yours but he's tall.

[animated]

Umm. That's also my father's name, but my father isn't here.

Do you... do you want to come in? We have a puppy.

[stealwithit]

[ her eyes brighten at the mention of a puppy. ]

I like puppies!

[ and then she shifts a little; she should probably introduce herself, right? ]

I'm Kasumi.

[animated]

My best friend is named Kasumi! But I don't know what she looks like because she always has a hood on.

[ he squints at her ] Are you sure you're not her?

[stealwithit]

[ she tilts her head. Some habits never changed, apparently. ]

I dunno. But my best friend's name is Charlie and your best friend's name is Kasumi. That's weird.

[animated]

[ He mirrors her movement, something about it oddly familiar, giving the situation all of the deep thought his ten-year-old brain can muster. ]

I think that means you're my best friend. [ clearly ]

[stealwithit]

Okay!

[ That's. Honestly all it takes to convince her 8-year-old self, and she flashes him a smile after lowering her teddy. ]

Oh. Um, this is Renoir.

[animated]

Hello Renoir!

[ the teddy gets an enthusiastic wave, and Charlie steps aside to let them both in ]

What do you wanna do?

[stealwithit]

[ she moves Renoir's arm to wave back at Charlie before they step in. ]

I wanna play with the puppy!

[animated]

We need to find him first. He's usually with Ken.

[stealwithit]

Ken? I remember Ken!

[ of course, she remembers him as a bitty Ken. ]

[animated]

He's really tall now!

[stealwithit]

Really! That's so cool!

[ she purses her lips. ]

I hope I get to be tall someday, too.

[animated]

Me too.

But I can already get things down from high places. [ he smiles, and there's a conspiratorial glint in his eyes ] D'you wanna know how?

[stealwithit]

Really? [ Kasumi's eyes, meanwhile, widen with curiosity. Because reaching things was such a struggle the night before, and although she knows she can climb things like a ninja, her motor functions of her tiny 8-year-old body sure did not. ]

How?

[animated]

[ He smiles, and gets real close to whisper in her ear ] Magic.

[stealwithit]

Really?

[ There's a pause on her for a second, there, as a bit of fuzziness clears from her mind again. ]

Oh, right! You're a wizard, Charlie!

[animated]

[ that makes him giggle ] I am!

I bet I could make Renoir wave all on his own if you wanted.

[stealwithit]

[ Oh my god you just made her face light up like a Christmas tree, honestly, and she holds Renoir out almost immediately. ]

Make him wave!

[animated]

[ Instead of grabbing the bear, he grabs Kasumi by the hand and guides her to the middle of the living room ]

Lay him down on the floor. I'm gonna need to concentrate.

[stealwithit]

[ she nods dutifully and does as she's told, giving Renoir a nice little pat on the head when she lays him down on the floor. ]

Okay. Do the magic!

[animated]

[ Charlie kneels next to the teddy bear, once again scrunching his face up in concentration as he tries to think through the fog and recall his magic.

Once or twice he raises a hand to cast but second-guesses himself and puts it back down. Then something clicks, and he begins casting for real. He still takes it slow, each mark deliberate, but soon enough there is a complicated-looking rune glowing with the ice-blue light of Charlie's magic, and floating over the bear's tummy. ]
