AGE PLOT SHENANIGANS

WHAT: Age plot kickoff!
WARNINGS: Cuteness.

[ LET'S GET THIS PARTY OFFICIALLY STARTED! Opening events so we don't do too much comm flooding (although people are welcome to make their own posts for the event). You're welcome to toplevel with your character if you'd like to have them show up somewhere else for this plot.

No it isn't! Well....not for me at least. I don't know, it's weird here.

[Ed pauses, listening and following the gesture to the counter, seeming to consider for a moment.]

Are there video games here?

[kanadian]

Not here here, but...

[ He pointed across the street. ]

They do over there.

[truth_unseen]

I didn't mean this place. It sells food. I meant--right! So we could go have a look? Awesome!

[Hopefully he doesn't get a stomachache the way he's munching through his tray of food. But he's always eaten his share, probably to make up for missed meals.]

[kanadian]

[ Kaidan, on the other hand, is eating like a maniac. ]

We could, yeah. I think they have some really cool ones, if I remember right. I only went there once this week.

[truth_unseen]

Not far though. Do they have these video games ready for us to play or?

[Gulping down the drink even as he demands explanations, hopeful and curious all at once.]

[kanadian]

Yeah? You just...you put in a quarter, and then... you start playing?

[ He keeps trying to slow down, to be patient, but youthful impatience is hard to mitigate. ] It's just there, you don't do anything special.

Oh. Really? I've just never seen anything like that before. You'll have to show me!

[Because this sounds amazing, Kaidan. He never had anything like this to play with back home.]

[kanadian]

Sure! [ He says, around a mouthful of food. ]

Just finish up and we'll go get some.

Right!

[Finishing up, gulping down the last of his drink before considering but having watched others dispose of the trays and left overs, imitating them as best he can with his shorter height.]

Now?

[kanadian]

[ Kaidan had to slam down his own, and he stuffed his mouth before nodding silently, and then he swallowed. ]

Now's good. Let's go!

Alright!

[All but running to dash outside. Before pausing because he's not sure just which of all these shops is the one he means. So Ed waits for Kaidan just outside the front doors of the fast food they were at.]

Which one is it?

[This place is so big. So crowded. He's still not used to it, really. Not having grown up in Resembool. Or training in Dublith with Teacher.]

[kanadian]

It's... [ He looked around, following him with slower steps. Kaidan was still deliberate in his movements, and unwilling to rush himself, before he pointed, and started walking. ]

This way, follow me!

[ And he led him straight for the arcade. ]

Right!

[Eagerly following. Before pausing once they enter the arcade, staring as he looks around wide-eyed at it all. The strange machines, the sounds, the crowds of children there.]

Whoa....so which one did we want to try first?

[kanadian]

[ Kaidan had something of a wicked grin on his face. Maybe, just maybe, for once he'd be better than someone. ]

Let's do that one.

[ He said, pointing to a game with guns in racks, obviously a shooting one. ]

Okay!

[Not that Ed's ever played any of these games, he figures this is a start, anyway. At least the basics of a gun seem simple enough that he should manage. Though he's possibly still a little short in seeing the screen due to the aging mess Hiro set off.

Yeah, Kaidan is definitely likely to win.]

[kanadian]

[ You would say that, but Kaidan is...bad at these things. Despite being a soldier from the future, completely adept with using rifles and pistols, he holds the thing weird, like he's leveraging the right kind of weight, and he sticks his tongue out. ]

Alright --

[ He hits the go key, but every time he shoots, within a split second, he pushes the weapon down, trying to compensate for a kickback that doesn't exist.

It levels out after a few shots, but... there's no killing muscle memory. ]

[Even with that, Kaidan likely still has more experience with guns than Ed. He might have some vague training once he actually joins the military, but even then the one time he has a gun and goes to use it, he couldn't bring himself to.

Child Ed is attempting to at least, but he's never played games like this before and doesn't make a lot of shots hitting the target. Regardless, he still seems to enjoy it, amazed.]

This is awesome! Can we try again? What other games are there? This is so cool!

Y -- yeah --

[ He won? He won?

He lowers the gun slightly.

Damn, he didn't realize he could actually win at a game. ]

There are driving games, and fighting games, and all sorts of games here.

Fighting games? Lets try that!

[No, Ed. This isn't literally sparring. But there he goes, replacing the gun and scanning the room for the fighting game Kaidan mentions. Though it's a bit difficult with his shorter height and the crowds. Let alone being entirely unfamiliar with an arcade.]

[ There it is, the Malignant Klash game. Look at it, and those crappy ninja costumes, and guys ripping out spines.

Yep. That sure is a game. ]

Alright, this one, you just...mash the buttons. [ He pointed him to it, before taking up the player one position. ]

[Hey, as long as it involves fighting, Ed doesn't care. The tackier the costumes, chances are the more he'd like them anyway. He has no clue what he's doing, at least initially. Just mashing the buttons randomly until he gets more of a feel for it, how to time the moves and blocking, jumping on the player two side.

At first, he probably loses, but once he gets the hang of it, he gets better. More on an even stance at the very least. If not winning one or two matches.]

So cool!

[ The better Ed gets, the more frustrated and -- bad Kaidan gets. He concentrates more and more, and gets worse and worse.

By a few games in, it's more Ed than Kaidan who's winning. ]

Yeah, cool.

[ He said, sourly. Of course. ]

Well, it is! We didn't have anything like this back home!

[Though Ed definitely picks up on that sour tone. Aw, Kaidan. Losing isn't really fun, is it? He pauses, looking around at what other games are available and have nobody currently playing.]

Did you want to try something else?

[kanadian]

That's up to you. I, um... I have plenty at home?

You're the one that's never played them before.

You have one at home? These machines are so big though.

[Clearly Ed is at a loss for theses handheld things. Or consoles. But that's hardly surprising given he's spent most of the time in the library or his room anyway. And has no clue what to make of the weird phones and everything else around here.]
