[ LET'S GET THIS PARTY OFFICIALLY STARTED! Opening events so we don't do too much comm flooding (although people are welcome to make their own posts for the event). You're welcome to toplevel with your character if you'd like to have them show up somewhere else for this plot.

[Sabriel's found herself sitting on a park bench opposite Kitty. She hasn't found a trace of her father yet, aside from protective spells on one of the houses- but another mage could have made those.

She looks up at Kitty, and then quickly looks elsewhere. At 10, Sabriel was a quiet girl- not shy, not exactly, but careful and polite and just a little bit strange.]

[ Kitty becomes aware of a kid sitting off across from her, sneaking glances at her. It's...All right. Obviously, Kitty doesn't really have much time for kids. They can take care of themselves, generally, and it's not like she's not busy with her own things. And it's not like she's some nanny, either. She's her own person, and she hasn't the patience to deal with them, because what's the point? But...The third time she sees the girl looking up at her, she asks, voice quiet but with a slight air of bossiness - ]

Have you lost your mum?

She's dead. [And has been for as long as Sabriel can remember.] I'm looking for my father- he's really tall, and he looks a lot like me and he's got a mark on his forehead too.

[kittenjones]

Oh.

[ Kitty hesitates, then mumbles: ]

Sorry.

[ She pushes her hair out of her face and wishes she didn't feel so uncomfortable. The girl clearly doesn't care so much about her mother being dead, so it's stupid for Kitty to feel weird about it. Completely stupid. So, louder, and bossier still: ]

Were you supposed to meet him somewhere?

[bindsthedead]

I was at school... and then I was at a fair. [And Sabriel still isn't sure how that happened.] But his bells were with me, so he has to be nearby! [He has to be. Sabriel has to give the bells back, after all.]

[ She narrows her eyes. That...rings a bell.

No. Ugh. Stupid. Pun not intended. ]

What's your name?

I'm Sabriel!

[ Okay. All right. It...It's weird, isn't it? That she doesn't know at all that her parents wouldn't be here. So Kitty sighs, and leans forward a little bit to say, more directly: ]
