I’ve traveled all this way for something

WHO: YOU.
WHERE: Eden East's cruiseship
WHEN: Saturday February 15th, around 5 PM EST
WHAT: Registration in motion... among other things.
WARNINGS: None anticipated; let us know if this should be edited.

" The new frontier of which I speak is not a set of promises -- it is a set of challenges. It sums up not what I intend to offer the American people, but what I intend to ask of them. It appeals to their pride, not to their pocketbook -- it holds out the promise of more sacrifice instead of more security. But I tell you the new frontier is here, whether we seek it or not. "
( from jfk's speech "the new frontier," 7/15/1960. )

The sun hasn't set yet and the temperature hovers somewhere just below 70 degrees this evening; imPorts, both recently arrived and not, will have been escorted to this event so that they can meet each other, have a good time, and of course officially state their registration status. Or lack thereof. It's your decision, they emphasize, even though the unspoken "but" is always there.

It's an elaborate spread, certainly much more elegant than last time. Eden East herself, elegant in her backless champagne-colored dress, meets and greets each and every imPort as she flutters to and fro. She'll find you and chat for a few moments, shaking your hand and complimenting your dress. She'll know your name, and she'll have an entourage of aids and cameras following her wake. Captain Holiday, in contrast, maintains the energy of someone who feels out of place holding the Swear-In ceremony somewhere so extravagant. As imPorts arrive he tells them where to be for the ceremony part of the evening, but that they are free to enjoy themselves until then and after.

( Please state your character's official status -- REGISTERED or UNSETTLED -- in the subject header of your thread. Characters who are UNDECIDED may be contacted later in the week for their decision via their IC contact post. )

"It cannot be so bad..." But she's starting to look amused again, and eying the plate. "You do not like shrimp? Or you do not like jello?"
shutterbugged: (spidey: la la la i can't hear you)

"Either one's fine, it's the together part that's a problem." Seeing her expression, he laughs sheepishly. "Look, if you think I'm being ridiculous, you're welcome to taste-test yourself."
fishbreath: (landdweller say what)

Humans, so strange. She considers it for a few seconds, and eventually decides that maybe just a quick taste-test wouldn't be so embarrassing or scandalous.

"Then I will." She reaches to take the plate, but pauses to add, "And if it really is not so bad, I may think you are being ridiculous?"
shutterbugged: (spidey: so then i said)

[personal profile] shutterbugged 2014-02-17 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"But of course," he says with mock courtesy, then grins. "I'm surprised you don't think so already. Most people do."
fishbreath: but after having considered the evidence we conclude you are still ugly. (what an interesting theory!)

"There is still time," she decides with a nod. Then, feeling only a little massively self-conscious (it reflects in the turn of her head, as she tries to angle away from him), she plucks the shrimp off the top of the jello. It disappears quickly under her veil, and there's no chewing, just one quick swallow. She pauses, thoughtful.

"I think that I like it."
shutterbugged: (spidey: fruit loot)

whoops a short one

"That's cheating," Peter pointed out, mock accusing. "You didn't even touch the jello. It's the combination that's weird, not either one on its own."
fishbreath: (landdweller say what)

psh it's all good, this isn't exactly an action-laden scene

[personal profile] fishbreath 2014-02-18 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
She arches both brows innocently, like she has just no idea what he's talking about. "There was jello on the shrimp."

You know, some. A few molecules. That counts, doesn't it?
shutterbugged: (spidey: arms crossed)

"You know what I think? I think you're just as grossed out by the shrimp jello as I am-- you just don't want to admit it." He's got your number, Maria. Or he thinks he does, anyway. Or is pretending he thinks he does. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference with Peter.

"Ah." One hand taps a finger thoughtfully against, presumably, her chin under the veil. "Then... you think I am lying. Yes? Perhaps that is a very large insult in my culture, to be called a liar."

Or perhaps she's just fucking with him. Also hard to tell.
shutterbugged: (peter: hmmph)

"Maybe it is, but if you really thought I was accusing you of lying, you'd be angry already." He raises an eyebrow, challenging. "Anyway, I believe this leaves my reputation safe and sound from all allegations of ridiculousness. Henceforth," he adds. Peter's philosophy is that if you're going to lay it on thick, you may as well do so with a trowel.
