I’ve traveled all this way for something

WHO: YOU.
WHERE: Eden East's cruiseship
WHEN: Saturday February 15th, around 5 PM EST
WHAT: Registration in motion... among other things.
WARNINGS: None anticipated; let us know if this should be edited.

" The new frontier of which I speak is not a set of promises -- it is a set of challenges. It sums up not what I intend to offer the American people, but what I intend to ask of them. It appeals to their pride, not to their pocketbook -- it holds out the promise of more sacrifice instead of more security. But I tell you the new frontier is here, whether we seek it or not. "
( from jfk's speech "the new frontier," 7/15/1960. )

The sun hasn't set yet and the temperature hovers somewhere just below 70 degrees this evening; imPorts, both recently arrived and not, will have been escorted to this event so that they can meet each other, have a good time, and of course officially state their registration status. Or lack thereof. It's your decision, they emphasize, even though the unspoken "but" is always there.

It's an elaborate spread, certainly much more elegant than last time. Eden East herself, elegant in her backless champagne-colored dress, meets and greets each and every imPort as she flutters to and fro. She'll find you and chat for a few moments, shaking your hand and complimenting your dress. She'll know your name, and she'll have an entourage of aids and cameras following her wake. Captain Holiday, in contrast, maintains the energy of someone who feels out of place holding the Swear-In ceremony somewhere so extravagant. As imPorts arrive he tells them where to be for the ceremony part of the evening, but that they are free to enjoy themselves until then and after.

( Please state your character's official status -- REGISTERED or UNSETTLED -- in the subject header of your thread. Characters who are UNDECIDED may be contacted later in the week for their decision via their IC contact post. )

It isn't until Matt clasps him on the shoulder that Peter realizes how much he's been missing-- well, Matt himself, first of all, but friendly human contact with someone not a three-year-old for another. He and Tony aren't exactly the touchy-feely sort, and most of Peter's other friends in the City disappeared months before Atropos swallowed that universe.

Neither the realization nor the still-fresh memories are comfortable to think about, and Peter has one default response to subjects that make him uncomfortable.

"My hero," he coos, clasping his hands and fluttering his eyelashes in patented damsel-in-distress mode. He's not sure Matt can really "see" the eyelashes, but there's no point in doing things halfway, is there?

...he really, really hates when Spidey does stuff like this. They've clashed before over his flippancy, versus Matt's grim stoicism and tendency to take everything a little too seriously. Or a lot. But he's tried to make a conscious effort about that, and mostly it seems to be succeeding. Somewhere having a sense of humor again that wasn't grim became a bit more natural. Maybe it's because his life hasn't been as much of a mess as it used to be. Even with the Sons of the Serpent running around.

"Don't think because I can't see you I don't know you think you're being cute," he says, with the sort of tone in his voice that suggests he must be rolling his eyes...or would, if it really made much difference. "Or that you don't know it won't play with me. It wasn't really a joke. We get a chance to do it all over again, with the benefit of hindsight. I'm not going to be on the sidelines this time. I'll be here if things get out of hand."

"I appreciate it," Peter responds, serious again. "I'm just not sure how much use I can be, when I have to look after Val and they have my secret identity on record. Heck, I don't even know where I'd start if I could."

That's a problem, for sure. Matt's not quite sure where to begin either. But he knows between the two of them, they'll come up with something. They've been in this game a long time, and yet, they're still here. They still manage to keep going somehow.

"Give me some time to think about it. I'll come up with something."

He gives Spider-Man's shoulder another brief squeeze, and then moves away. They can't stand here together for too long, or someone might- what? Suspect? Matt doesn't want to expose Spider-Man's identity publicly, or his own, right now.

"And now I know more about punch than ever. Thanks for the lesson; I hope you have a good evening, sir."

He'll see Spider-Man soon enough, he's sure.

"If anyone can, it's you." Raising his voice, he adds, "Glad to be of service. Enjoy the rest of the party."

He's going to have to follow up certain parts of the conversation: specifically, the parts to do with secret identities and the lack thereof, at least when it comes to good friends who've already met the family. But it's not as though Daredevil's going to be hard to track down.
