I’ve traveled all this way for something

WHO: YOU.
WHERE: Eden East's cruiseship
WHEN: Saturday February 15th, around 5 PM EST
WHAT: Registration in motion... among other things.
WARNINGS: None anticipated; let us know if this should be edited.

" The new frontier of which I speak is not a set of promises -- it is a set of challenges. It sums up not what I intend to offer the American people, but what I intend to ask of them. It appeals to their pride, not to their pocketbook -- it holds out the promise of more sacrifice instead of more security. But I tell you the new frontier is here, whether we seek it or not. "
( from jfk's speech "the new frontier," 7/15/1960. )

The sun hasn't set yet and the temperature hovers somewhere just below 70 degrees this evening; imPorts, both recently arrived and not, will have been escorted to this event so that they can meet each other, have a good time, and of course officially state their registration status. Or lack thereof. It's your decision, they emphasize, even though the unspoken "but" is always there.

It's an elaborate spread, certainly much more elegant than last time. Eden East herself, elegant in her backless champagne-colored dress, meets and greets each and every imPort as she flutters to and fro. She'll find you and chat for a few moments, shaking your hand and complimenting your dress. She'll know your name, and she'll have an entourage of aids and cameras following her wake. Captain Holiday, in contrast, maintains the energy of someone who feels out of place holding the Swear-In ceremony somewhere so extravagant. As imPorts arrive he tells them where to be for the ceremony part of the evening, but that they are free to enjoy themselves until then and after.

( Please state your character's official status -- REGISTERED or UNSETTLED -- in the subject header of your thread. Characters who are UNDECIDED may be contacted later in the week for their decision via their IC contact post. )

"Coming from the sea can mean a multitude of things. It's too vague to really be gotten." Which meant she would have to ask clarifying question. She glanced at his neck, starting with one that already seemed like it would be a no. "Do you have gills? You don't look like most aquatic life I've encountered."

"Woah, woah," Kuzan raised his hands immediately, defensively. Kanaya was going a mile a minute and well beyond what the poor old man's capacity would usually allow him to deal with. He had to save himself at that rate before she pummeled him into submission.

"Asking me all these things before we've even been properly introduced. Anyone ever tell you you're a rude little cookie, missy?"

She probably had been, but it was very unlikely she ever listened. She certainly wouldn't be listening this time, and it really was terribly rude of her. "Well, like attracts like, as they say, and rudeness tends to breed its own company. It was this or letting you sleep at a time that really doesn't call for it."

Making a noise of protest, Kuzan gave Kanaya a weak shrug and leaned back into the chair a second time, beginning to pull his sleeping mask over his eyes again. He was used to getting ridden by brass as a professional courtesy, but he wasn't exactly punched in at the moment.

"If your goal's to be rude, then I'll go right back to what I was doing, kiddo. Nobody else was botherin' me, after all."

"Don't mistake the effect for the intention, my goal was largely curiosity. I simply catered my manners to match the ones already present." Because that's definitely a good excuse and not deflecting blame at all. The fact is that she's just rude.

"You're the only one mentionin' it," Kuzan leaned back, his head dangling backwards without a support. It wasn't at all comfortable, but he slept in immensely uncomfortable postures all the time--even standing when he could manage it. As far as he knew, any sleep at all was good sleep.

"Now, back to my duties. My motto is 'Lazy Justice', so this fits perfect."

Lazy was right, and if there was one thing Kanaya abhorred, laziness would be it. She was quietly thankful not to be rooming with him, imagining all the picking up after him she'd have to do. But neither was she a fan of wasting time, and it had become clear to her that she wouldn't be getting anywhere here.

So, with an exasperated groan, she marched her way back to the main deck to rejoin the party. She still had plenty of other people to meet.
