[Her enthusiasm is practically contagious and she's convinced she can get George just as excited as she is. She spins around to face him, now sitting cross-legged on the floor.]

Yeah, like years and years ago. We did a lot of traveling when I was fifteen and my parents were on sabbatical.

Oh man, that sounds great. [He looks a little enchanted imagining it.] What do your parents do?

Professors. There's a reason I'm in grad school. I was basically born into academia.

[puppydoctor]

That's pretty awesome, though.

[All his life, he was the odd one out with his academic interests. He couldn't ask for a better family than the one he had - not now that he's lost them - but would have been nice to fit in.]

My dad was a truck driver. When I said I wanted to go to med school, my family just wanted to know how I'd pay.

Lots of student loans, I'm guessing?

[Cosima knows she's lucky that her parents were more than ready to pay for her college education. They were always supportive, yet never forced her into anything.]

Yeah. They just didn't want me to get in over my head. Which isn't hard, 'cause I'm pretty short.

[He tries a little laugh at that, but it's bittersweet.]

At least I don't have to worry about the debt anymore.

[Cosima makes an impressed noise. She knows how much student loans can build up. George is pretty young to have them all paid off already.]

Seriously? Dude, how many jobs did you work while you were in school?

[puppydoctor]

[His face pales, and he chokes a little on a bite of his sandwich.]

I, um. I just-

[Okay. Sarah knows, Alison knows. Even Chloe knows. Cosima was going to find out eventually.]

I'm not going back. Can't, actually.

You can't...

[It's not exactly a question. George's reaction is enough for her to take a guess. She turns to face him, unusually serious.]

[puppydoctor]

It's fine. I'm fine with it. [Clearly. He smiles a bit awkwardly.] Just trying to make the most of it here, instead.

[In her opinion, George is totally not fine, but it seems rude to call him out on it right now.]

That's not a bad way to deal with it.

[He knows she isn't fooled - no one really is - but he keeps up the act anyway.]

And now you know why I'm such a dork about your sister.

You guys are adorable. And don't worry. She has a soft spot for dorks.

[Cosima holds up one hand for a high five. Nerd solidarity!!]

[He doesn't leave her hanging, though his side of the high five is lacking a bit of confidence. Putting aside his empty plate, he scoots closer to the edge of the sofa cushion.]

So what are you thinking about seeing while you're here?

The better question is what do I not want to see?

[Cosima grins and brandishes a notebook at him. It's full of lists of things, from museums to what seem to be extremely tacky tourist shops, with notes by each one.]

I've got a working list of like, a dozen museums to check out if Alison'll let me travel far enough out.

[puppydoctor]

Oh man, I haven't been to a museum in years. I'll totally go with you, if you want.

[His eyes are practically shining with the excitement of that thought.]

Of course I want you to. And try to use your enthusiasm to convince the others this is a good idea.

[It's been such a hard sell with both Alison and Sarah, Cosima's glad that at least someone is on her side.]

I can probably convince Sarah- [He gives a little waggle of the eyebrows, just to tease her.] -but you're on your own with Alison. I'm pretty sure I get on her bad side just by existing.

[Cosima laughs, leaning her head back onto the couch. George is good for Sarah, she's officially decided.]

Are you scared of Alison? It's okay if you are. I won't tell her.

[puppydoctor]

[He shrugs, sitting up straighter.]

I'm not scared of her! I'm just... She's a little intense, is all.

You mean, scary.

[puppydoctor]

Okay, she's a little scary. But so were the rest of you, at first. I'm sure I'll get used to her.

[Cosima snaps to attention, immediately abandoning her maps in favor to grabbing George by the arm. Did he really think she was scary? She can't help but grin at the idea.]

Wait, wait. You thought I was scary? Seriously?

[puppydoctor]

[He makes a high pitched noise of denial, and rubs at the back of his neck.]

Hey, in my defense, I'm very small and vulnerable. And my girlfriends' families aren't usually my biggest fans.

[Cosima laughs, trying to keep it together. She's almost failing.]

Dude, you get that we're all like, super short, right? And back home I'm on and off oxygen. I promise, you could probably take me. Maybe not Alison, though.
