welcome home feast!

WHO: OPEN MINGLE
WHERE: Xavier School Dining Hall
WHEN: January 29, 30; all day both days
WHAT: Cass and Callaghan opened up the school's dining hall for ALL imPorts, -- prisoners, diplomats, military, rescuers, even people who were uninvolved and just want the food -- to come in and recover from the ordeal with warm, free food, blankets gathered from god knows where, and each other.
WARNINGS: This should be relatively tame! But please mark your own warnings in the necessary places.

As announced here, Cass and Callaghan have opened up Xavier School to offer food and a resting place to ALL imPorts! The room is kept warm, and there's food and drinks -- non alcoholic! -- and enough space for a bunch of people to sit around and fill their stomachs. The buffet line is stocked with all sorts of food, and Cass is keeping pots of coffee ready for the people who would prefer that, too. There's no junk food, but she stress baked enough to feed a small country while everyone was gone, so there's plenty of pastries and bread to go around as well.

[ He really doesn't doubt that in the slightest. Not just because it's Kitty - that's a good enough reason as is, straight up - but the power removal. Ah. ]

He was quite determined to tear the out the hearts of all the guards on the sub, then move on to killing more people. I prevented him from doing so for a while.

-- Please don't get yourself hurt on my account.

[ Oh. That transmutes her anger from something personal to something righteous. ]

He - God. Of course he did. Of course he would go on a murder spree.

[ Her fists clench, but she pushes down her anger to ask: ]

How did you stop him?

[ It's almost laughable in retrospect. Ridiculous, when he considers it. And yet, it had been in such deadly earnest at the time. ]

Shrank him. Shrank the both of us, in fact. Until I let him go, the only one he could hurt was me.

[ He thumps lightly at his chest with the cast. ]
rathercommon: (sympathetic)

[personal profile] rathercommon 2016-01-31 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Her brows furrow together, because that does sound sort of funny - but her expression clears as she thinks through the implications of that. ]

That was...really quick thinking. But - God.

[ She reaches out again to rest her fingertips very lightly on one of the lacerations on his cheek, her eyes searching his face, studying the pattern of wounds. ]

Not many people would have put themselves at risk like that for some locals. Let alone locals who are enemies. What a brave, good thing you've done, Admiral.

[ A very nasty laceration with an impossibly sharp blade. Still bright and fresh despite him having been tended to; Lucy had other wounds to tend to first. Mentally, he seems more or less intact, at least; his eyes are still bright and undaunted. ]

There is no honor in slaughtering a retreating enemy. No sense in it, given the situation. We had everything to gain by leaving them alive and nothing to lose, save some petty revenge. It was the smart choice in addition to being the right one.
rathercommon: (chatting)

[personal profile] rathercommon 2016-01-31 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She draws her hand back and shakes her head. ]

Even so. Smart and right are often set aside in favor of what's safe. You put your life on the line for those selfsame men who'd kept you prisoner all that time. And suffered for it, at that.

[ She offers him a little smile. ]

If that's not the definition of virtue, I don't know what is.

[ He finally ducks his head at that, a faint flush touching his cheeks. He shouldn't revel in being praised for something his father would take as a matter of course - that he ought to view as a very basic duty. And yet, it does feel nice. ]

Well ... thank you, then. We'll see what comes of it in the end. If you do have advice with dealing with Lucifer, I'd appreciate it.
rathercommon: (skeptical)

[personal profile] rathercommon 2016-01-31 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She arches an eyebrow. ]

Well, step one, take me with you next time.
dendarii: (good point)

The next time I get kidnapped, you mean?
rathercommon: (ummm whatever though)

[personal profile] rathercommon 2016-01-31 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She wrinkles her nose. ]

Well, I don't expect that'll happen again. But - all right. If you deal with him when I can reasonably come along, take me with you. I won't interfere with anything - I'll just bodyguard.
dendarii: (cocky lil bastard)

[personal profile] dendarii 2016-01-31 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That's what he thought she meant. He weighs the thought of her being injured vs. her obvious expertise and usefulness, in addition to being ... well, herself ... Right. Not even a token objection. ]

Deal, then. I will be very grateful for your help.
rathercommon: (explaining you a thing)

[personal profile] rathercommon 2016-01-31 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She nods in approval. Not even a token but-you're-a-girl or you-should-stay-safe. Good; a good commander, to her way of thinking, shouldn't demand more of people than he's willing to give himself - but he shouldn't accept less, either. ]

Good. Second...He's not violent by default. Lucifer, I mean. I assume he was set off on a rampage by everything going on.

[ Nothing of the former from Miles, after Elena and Quinn; minimal amounts of the latter given she's likely better equipped to handle Lucifer than he is. He fully expects their next fight (if one ever occurs, perish the thought) to end with Miles' head immediately separated from his body. ]

Yes ... He was extremely upset about having been imprisoned, I think. Mentioned something about going off to kill six million to make sure the world took notice of his annoyance?
rathercommon: (disapproving)

[personal profile] rathercommon 2016-01-31 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She grunts in irritation. ]

He's such a bloody drama queen. Honestly, it seems like the more power these entities have, the more they act like bloody infants. Never mind, of course, that six million people weren't involved in kidnapping his stupid ugly idiot self.
dendarii: (eidetics 72)

[personal profile] dendarii 2016-01-31 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I quite agree. It was unpleasant, and absolutely a terrible experience, but we weren't even tortured. It could have been much worse.
rathercommon: (disapproving)

[personal profile] rathercommon 2016-01-31 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I said to everyone.

[ She huffs a sigh. ]

And I got a great lot of people wailing back about how awful conditions were, how I was speaking heartlessly, because people had to piss in a bucket. Which is wretched, yeah. But it's really not the worst thing that can be done to a hostage. I know that very well.
dendarii: (frakkingcylon 034)

[personal profile] dendarii 2016-01-31 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
... Ah. Well. We mustn't be too hard on them either. For those who aren't as used to it as we are, those are awful conditions. Their trauma is valid too.
rathercommon: (attentive)

[personal profile] rathercommon 2016-01-31 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She grunts in annoyance. ]

Their trauma is self-indulgent, is what it is. Don't repeat that to anyone or tell anyone I said it. [ She jabs a finger in Miles' direction. ] I'm not going to be anything less than sympathetic to their faces. But God, we're on the brink of nuclear war, aren't we - what happened to them - you - was awful, but wiping out the earth is rather worse.

What?

[personal profile] rathercommon 2016-01-31 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Uh - Kitty looks at him, feeling suddenly a little alarmed. She didn't offend him, did she...? ]

What...What? Which part?
dendarii: (frakkingcylon 105)

[personal profile] dendarii 2016-01-31 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thermonuclear war. Are we really that close? I've no idea of the politics of this world - our own Great War isn't for a few centuries -

[ And that shit is terrifying. He is suddenly so very, very glad he tried to stop Lucifer. ]
rathercommon: (pensive)

[personal profile] rathercommon 2016-01-31 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Muttered: ]

A few centuries. Brilliant.

[ And then, louder: ]

Yeah. Sorry. I thought you knew. The Soviets and the Americans - they're constantly pushing closer to war, and they've both got nuclear weapons. And not much shyness about threatening to use them. As for whether or not they're shy about actually using them...We can't know. But...

But close enough to be twitchy. Yes. I am extremely glad I decided to pick a fight with Lucifer after all.
