WHERE: Xavier School Dining Hall
WHEN: January 29, 30; all day both days
WHAT: Cass and Callaghan opened up the school's dining hall for ALL imPorts, -- prisoners, diplomats, military, rescuers, even people who were uninvolved and just want the food -- to come in and recover from the ordeal with warm, free food, blankets gathered from god knows where, and each other.
WARNINGS: This should be relatively tame! But please mark your own warnings in the necessary places.

As announced here, Cass and Callaghan have opened up Xavier School to offer food and a resting place to ALL imPorts! The room is kept warm, and there's food and drinks -- non alcoholic! -- and enough space for a bunch of people to sit around and fill their stomachs. The buffet line is stocked with all sorts of food, and Cass is keeping pots of coffee ready for the people who would prefer that, too. There's no junk food, but she stress baked enough to feed a small country while everyone was gone, so there's plenty of pastries and bread to go around as well.

[ She huffs a sigh. ]

And I got a great lot of people wailing back about how awful conditions were, how I was speaking heartlessly, because people had to piss in a bucket. Which is wretched, yeah. But it's really not the worst thing that can be done to a hostage. I know that very well.

[dendarii]

... Ah. Well. We mustn't be too hard on them either. For those who aren't as used to it as we are, those are awful conditions. Their trauma is valid too.

[rathercommon]

[ She grunts in annoyance. ]

Their trauma is self-indulgent, is what it is. Don't repeat that to anyone or tell anyone I said it. [ She jabs a finger in Miles' direction. ] I'm not going to be anything less than sympathetic to their faces. But God, we're on the brink of nuclear war, aren't we - what happened to them - you - was awful, but wiping out the earth is rather worse.

[dendarii]

[ That stops his breath for a moment. ]

What?

[rathercommon]

[ Uh - Kitty looks at him, feeling suddenly a little alarmed. She didn't offend him, did she...? ]

What...What? Which part?

[dendarii]

Thermonuclear war. Are we really that close? I've no idea of the politics of this world - our own Great War isn't for a few centuries -

[ And that shit is terrifying. He is suddenly so very, very glad he tried to stop Lucifer. ]

[rathercommon]

[ Muttered: ]

A few centuries. Brilliant.

[ And then, louder: ]

Yeah. Sorry. I thought you knew. The Soviets and the Americans - they're constantly pushing closer to war, and they've both got nuclear weapons. And not much shyness about threatening to use them. As for whether or not they're shy about actually using them...We can't know. But...

[dendarii]

[ Miles mutters a curse in Greek under his breath. ]

But close enough to be twitchy. Yes. I am extremely glad I decided to pick a fight with Lucifer after all.

[rathercommon]

Yeah. That's why - I don't know if you heard my post? After you all were kidnapped.

[dendarii]

Sorry, I had trouble accessing the network. I only really got through to Greg.

[ She shakes her head, waves her hand - don't worry about it. ]

I've been running damage control, sort of, as best I can. I was trying my best to keep people from snapping and going and burning down Russian cities. I didn't succeed as well as I wanted to. There was still violence. And I'm afraid that there might be...retribution.

[dendarii]

... Thus the threat of war. I see. That is a poor outcome for all of us.

[rathercommon]

Worst of all, though, for the locals. They have nothing else. And they can't return to life.

[dendarii]

Just so. Though we'd not enjoy resurrecting into that mess either.

[rathercommon]

No. The prospect of dying endlessly on a barren earth...That's not my idea of a good life.

[dendarii]

Definitely not. I'd prefer the first death at that point. But - better to prevent it altogether.

[rathercommon]

I don't suppose you're an expert in the prevention of nuclear war, Admiral.

[dendarii]

Not this kind, no. That ... is rather more Greg's style.

[rathercommon]

Mm. He told me about some of his diplomatic successes in the past. Negotiating with the - oh, what were they called, Vervinnies?

[ Oh - ]

And you'll be glad to hear that he spoke beautifully before the United Nations.

[dendarii]

Vervain, yes. I was part of that one.

[ He warms a bit. ]

Don't suppose you got video? I do love to see him in action.

[ Miles brightens even more getting to talk about his favorite subject. ]

All had hoped for. He met me at the airport and promptly insisted I not move from the couch for a single thing afterward. Made me dinner and everything.
