[His feet may be silent on the carpet to normal ears, but Yayoi's hearing is far from normal. She cracks an eye open as Kaneda makes his way over and watches quietly while he drops the udon off, sighing softly as she shakes off the dozy feeling that'd begun to creep up. Mysterious food deliveries were too interesting to overlook. Especially when they smelled as good as this one.

She sits up from where she'd been leaning against Kazu's bed, peering first at the bowl and then after Kaneda.]

Mm . . . Kaneda-kun?

[rassera]

[Kaneda had been in the middle of setting it down, hand out as if to spot it in case it slipped off. But Yayoi's voice causes his ears to metaphorically perk. And there he is, caught like a kid trying to nab some cookies out of a cookie jar.

Which is funny cause he's the one providing the food.]

Ah! Yayoi...!

[A hand immediately goes to the back of his neck, rubbing it anxiously as he stands up straight.]

W-What are you doing here?

[She's staying here, you dumbass.]

[She squints, rubbing at her eyes as if to make sure this isn't a dream.

. . . Nope, definitely awake. Which means that question definitely happened.]

I was catching a quick nap. What are you doing?

[rassera]

[Well, there's no use denying it. She sees him right there, standing next to the box where the udon is sitting. He could try to get out of this...really. But instead, he'll settle for a half truth.]

Just...delivering food, that's all.


Nothing weird here!

[She looks slowly between him and the udon, raising an eyebrow curiously at him.]

Nothing weird about delivering my favorite udon? Did you talk to one of the other stormriders?

[rassera]

...

[And then, suddenly, honest astonishment.]

Is that really your favourite?

[learntofly]

Um. Yes? You really didn't know?

[rassera]

...

[A small shake of his head.]

Just guessed.

[learntofly]

[For a moment she sits back in surprise, but . . . with the udon sitting right there . . .

She leans over and picks up the bowl, settling it carefully on her lap.]

Good guess.

[rassera]

[Complete luck was what it was. Kaneda had narrowed it down to that by now, because there's no way he could've gotten it right on the first try. Not when he'd only known her for such a short amount of time. Hell, he had to guess on Maya's too.

There's a little tilt of his head, a silent gesture asking if he can sit across from her.


Maybe...maybe a small part of him really wants to know what she thinks of it.]

[She nods agreeably, already picking a few vegetables out to start on and breaking open the egg to coat them in it. No better way to eat it.

The look on her face after the first bite says more than enough on it's own—contented, pleased, maybe a little surprised?]

It's . . . really good.

[rassera]

[And that...practically melts Kaneda right there. For all his confidence and belief in himself, his natural talent at any physical activity and skill, cooking was the one thing he had to work at. It didn't come easily to him, and with that came the nervousness of failure.

Prepared for it, obviously, but nervous all the same. But her face softens after that first bite, and his own does too. Hell, even his voice is more gentle as he sits down, leaning his elbows on his knees.]

There's not a lot of places to eat Japanese food around here.


You pretty much have to do it yourself.
