[It would be a lovely, lazy morning, filled with a strong, healthy heartbeat, blood rushing through veins, familiar patterns of nerves crackling and the new comfort of the rustle of feathers.


And then the screaming begins in the household. The crow is up so fast Kururu is nearly rolled out from under him.]

[resoundingpledge]

[ It. It takes her a moment more. Mornings have never been her friend, they weren't her friend before she started living a stormrider's semi-nocturnal life and it's even worse now.

It doesn't even immediately register that the crow above her is really Ikki, and not just his shadow.

She rubs at her eyes, still half splayed-out where Ikki rolled her, trying to make sense of a world that's more than just the sound of his heartbeat. Why is there screaming there is so much screaming. It's not even his team, or sisters . . . ]

. . . morning . . .?

[There's a TWOCK! of a bird getting knocked across the beak and then yelling from Ikki, and yelling from the miko with rainbow hair, and then a lot of .. everything.]

Morning! DUCK!

[resoundingpledge]

But you're a crow—

[ Oh.

The warning is taken to heart and she moves, rolling off the couch entirely and covering her head. ]

[It's just in time as a very human boy leaps over the couch and Kururu to avoid a sharp batting of the broom. So close he can feel the ends of her pink hair brush his face. He hits the coffee table and rolls off, going for the door again.]

Ikki-kun?

[ She peeks up as he rolls off the table, taking in her first good look at the room—at the feathers everywhere. ]

Is this all . . . were you moulting?

[violentmotion]

[He does have a few feathers sticking out of his hair.]

Is that why I was so itc- [BRB, LOSING THE WAR FOR FREEDOM!!]

Maybe it was the change in seasons? It is winter here . . .

[ She picks up a feather, examining it, completely unperturbed by Ikki being put in his place in the background. ]

Maybe you're not eating right?

[violentmotion]

[Broom duty acquired.]

I bet I need more meat.

We've been getting extra for Kazu-kun, so it wouldn't be hard to try that.

[ Though . . . it really was hard to picture Ikki not eating enough protein. ]

What do crows normally eat?

I'm pretty sure 'anything' is the answer.

There can be a lot of things in anything.

Was there anything Kuu really liked when he was moulting?

Uh. Grasshoppers.

[ It's the middle of winter. It's icy outside. Not a living insect anywhere. ]
