[Kaneda didn't see Ken enter--the boy had become a master of stopping by to swap things out and hurrying back out. So when he looks up to find Ken peeking his head in...he couldn't have smiled wider if he tried. Fingers blindly search the jukebox, running over the buttons until he finds the one he's looking for--the volume.

Turning it up and walking towards him.]


Two.

[And Kaneda hurries out of his room, passing Ken and sneakily grabbing that small wrist. Dragging him out into the more open area of the floor outside the rooms. Honestly, if this house needed ANYTHING, it was something like this. Something stupid to get their minds off of the hell they were all recovering from.

If Ken doesn't immediately get into it, that sure is going to be Kaneda's hips bumping into him to get to it. Sorry buddy, this is your brother, and he's going to get you to dance.]

[amadaman]

[Ken has just enough time to say,] That is already a bad idea, [before his wrist is grabbed and he's dragged back out into the hallway and Kaneda is bumping into him. It doesn't take a genius to understand what Kaneda is trying to get him to do, and it also doesn't take a genius to read the way Ken is just 'no'-ing away from it. Oh god. Why.]

I don't know the first thing about dancing! I just came here to get some stuff!

[rassera]

Then it's time to learn!

[That grip is firm as he pulls him out, slotting him between the stairs and the little group of beanbag chairs that made up a secondary sitting zone. Ken's easier to pull along than Tetsuo or Maya, so he's going to direct him in a little spin before letting go, swaying his hips to the beat.]

Just move the way you think you should! Don't think, FEEL!

[amadaman]

[Ken is definitely lighter and gives less resistance as he's pulled around. He has to trot a little to keep up with the speed of Kaneda's spin, and he actually almost flies right into the beanbags when his foot catches on one of them. Oh no!!

He just manages to catch himself and watches Kaneda once he's back on his feet, trying to keep up with his movements.

Then, slowly, he starts to copy him. It's awkward at best.]

[rassera]

[Awkward imitation is better than just standing there Tetsuo, and Kaneda watches out of the corner of his eye as Ken attempts to match the movement of his hips and the placement of his feet. He goes slower, while not appearing to, hoping that Ken can pick up the motions easier that way.]

Thaaaat's it, just like that!

[The smile on his face could light up a room, the way he's looking at Ken dance with him. Because after everything that happened in the jungle, whatever Pan had tried to take away from him, it was right here. They could be happy and stupid. Pan hadn't taken that away from them.


Not for a moment.]

[amadaman]

[Ken is actually not half bad at it, and the worst part might be that he's just so awkward and tense. His body was agile to begin with, and he had a good sense of rhythm that's been trained by his months of learning music. He has the foundations, and he just needs to practice.

He glances between his feet and Kaneda from time to time, doing his best to mirror his movements.]

[rassera]

[Kaneda notices Ken's attempt to replicate, and his own feet slow, making his way over to get in line next to him. There's a few beats where he stands still to let Ken finish up. That's when he starts up again, his slower pace still keeping to the beat, but easier for Ken to pick up. And when his feet sync with his own, his pace pick sup more and more, faster and faster.]

See? Not so hard is it?

[His smile is beaming as he starts to improvise his own footwork, letting the music make up the rest for him.]

[amadaman]

[Ken won't be able to improvise, but he's able to keep going with what Kaneda started, which is what he does.]

It's not hard, [he responds,] but it's not really something I'd do on my own.

[rassera]

Why not?

[He watches that footwork, pretty impressed with how Ken could put it to memory so fast. He falls back into step with him eventually, side by side and matching movements.

Kaneda Shotaro, one who doesn't know what it means to be more introverted.]

[amadaman]

[It's all that soccer, bro. Ken at least starts humming quietly to the music behind them.]

Well, why would I? Isn't dancing something people do with other people? I only did it for physical education once.

[rassera]

Well, that makes it better, yeah!

[He smiles, moving so he's facing Ken now as he dances, raising his arms up ever so slightly.]

Dancing's something you do any-damn-time-you-want.

[amadaman]

Then I guess I don't want to do it all that often.

[He listens to the song, though, and to match it picks up the pace of his feet. It's still a little clumsy, but nothing too terrible. He does wonder how long they're going to be doing this but... he's not going to say no to doing something with Kaneda.]

Do you do this a lot?

[rassera]

[Ken’s question slows Kaneda’s footwork, the energetic pace replaced with something slower, more relaxed.]

Harukiya.

‘s a bar in Neo Tokyo. The only bar that’d let us stick around, actually. The old man who ran it always threatened to kick us out--’How about buying something?! This isn’t a hangout for you street punks!’--heh, we’d tease him back. [As he speaks, his pace picks back up, like it was only a blip in his rhythm.]

Anyway.

He had a jukebox there. Used to stand at it all the time.

[amadaman]

[Little blips. Little glitches in Kaneda's steady flow of energy that provide a window into his soul. They no longer hid from each other, but that didn't mean they suddenly had a heart-to-heart and revealed everything. There's still a lot to learn, and Ken looks over as he gains yet another piece of this intricate puzzle.]

... This isn't bad. I can get used to this.

[rassera]

See?

[He laughs, backing away as he dances to really get a good look at Ken's progress. It brought the boy out of his shell, if only for a moment, which is all he needed.

Life's full of awful moments. Dancing should never be one of them.]

I'm not -ALL- bad ideas.

[amadaman]

[Ken's just about forgotten what he came here to do. He's probably not going to dance again unless he's invited, but for now, he's content to just keep spending time like this. He's focused on where to put his feet, the sound of the music, and a beat that's different from Kala-Nemi's steady ticking.]

You're mostly full of good ones. Just good ones can also be stupid, sometimes. Um... thanks, for this.

[rassera]

[It's easy to get lost in it, if only for the short duration of the next few songs. He doesn't expect Ken to do this all the time, but the fact that they're sharing this moment? Something that was so reminiscent of his home?

It's enough.]

Ehhh don't mention it! You're smiling more already.

[amadaman]

... Huh?

Am I? I wasn't?

[rassera]

You've always got that look like you've got the weight of the world on your shoulders.

[amadaman]

... No I don't! What sort of face is that??

[rassera]

Like this!

[To which he closes his eyes and exhales, letting out the most pained sigh he can before staring back, the most serious of neutral faces he can.]

[amadaman]

[Ken freezes on the spot.


Stares.





And then a second later stops dancing as he lets out a short but loud PFFFFFT and has to turn away covering his mouth because holy shit]

That's not a good look on you.

[rassera]

[Sorry, were you trying to get away from that, Ken? Because he's leaning around you, heaving the biggest sigh he can muster with that face.]

KANEDA-SANNNNNN.....

[amadaman]

[Noooooooo, Ken starts spinning around to get away from it, put on an expression Kaneda!!]

Kaneda-sa-- Stop doing that!

[rassera]

[And every time Ken turns, Kaneda's there to meet him, teasingly sighing.]

Whaaaaat??? Are yous saying this isn't youuuuu?
