[Regardless of whether it's the best or not, she seems to appreciate it. Cleaning the mess is going much quicker now that she doesn't need to go back and forth between it and the can.]

It just gets more and more amazing . . . [It sounds a bit like she's talking to herself just then, but her attention pulls back to him at that question and she waves a hand in a flustered gesture.]

Oh—no! I mean—I don't think? We're supposed to be in Heropa, but there was this evacuation, and now our friend is hurt and needs some time to rest, and we're just . . . We're . . . I'm pretty sure the plan is to go to our own place as soon as he can be moved.

He's hurt?

[He tilts his head, then pushes off the wall to move into the room.]

How hurt? If it's an injury, I can heal.

Ah, I'm Amada, by the way. Ken Amada.

[She straightens up entirely, still holding a few old ramen cups forgotten in her hands.]

I'm—Yayoi Nakayama.

When you say heal . . . you don't mean like a doctor, do you?

No, nothing like that.

I'm a healer of the magic kind. I can heal most trauma wounds.

Mm . . . [She drops the empty ramen cups in the trash and wipes her hands clean on a dusting rag, chewing thoughtfully on her lip as she does.]

That's . . . That's really incredible, but in this case I think it might be better to wait. The kind of injury it is—it's delicate. Like . . . Like a shattered bone that has to be set first. I don't know if magic should be the first thing to try on it. Maybe the second thing.

And—more importantly, it's the way he's treating himself that's the bigger problem. He could've avoided being this hurt if he'd let anyone take care of him before now. He's been refusing it since even before he came here. This . . . It could be a good chance to make him admit he can't keep running by himself.

... [Ken moves while she's talking, shuffling across the room and finding a chair to drop in. The furniture in this house aren't small; they usually have to be big enough to fit the Iron Bull, and Ken is dwarfed even more by the couch as he draws his feet up and crosses his legs on the cushion.]

I'm going to ask this first, but when you said it's shattered, is it... literally a comminuted fracture? Because if it is you should probably take him to a doctor before you teach him any lessons about self preservation.

Ah—no. [She emphasizes the negative statement by raising her arms in a crossed "x" in front of her.]

I promise if he had an injury like that we wouldn't have just brought him here. This kind of injury is the sort of thing that builds up over time.

[amadaman]

That's pretty bad too.

[He sighs.]

Is it from the jungle?

No—well. Some of it. He pushed himself hardest then, but a lot of it . . .

[She frowns uncomfortably.]

It's been building up since before he was even brought here. He wouldn't let anyone take care of him at home either.

[amadaman]

Hmmm... I see. There's about a million in every world, isn't there?

Then, why don't you try convincing him? I'll heal him if he asks me to, but just making him lie around healing on his own doesn't sound that effective. Time just passes. But with how things go around here, we won't have much time until the next mine blows up and he tries to run into something on his own again.

Though I guess that can be a lesson too.

That's what we're going to do. We . . . have some specialized techniques for treating these injuries. We just need to get Ikki-kun on board to keep him from running away when we do it first.
