[Now that Ken's expressions have started changing again there's no stopping him. His eyes light up immediately once he recognizes what the treat is, and even if they're outside and there are people still around them, the little growl of his stomach is audible. The way the kid's cheeks turn red and he quickly raises his voice to hide it are painful giveaways, too.]

Tamagoyaki! You got even better at them, too.

[There we go, there's the Ken Amada he remembered. After the night before, it was good to see the kid's eyes light up like that. With everything out in the open between them, there was a certain...lightness to everything. He didn't have to play himself up around him.]

Oba-chan's been giving me tips. Says it's the way I pour it in, or something...I don't know. I just copy what she does and--

[His fingers shoot out, like jazz hands.]

Magic.

[amadaman]

[It's an ease that comes from having nothing to hide. From now, Ken won't feel the need to hide anything from him, positive or negative, but he isn't thinking about that as he starts to walk forward with a spring in his step. He laughs lightly at Kaneda's demonstration and clutches the box to his chest.]

It's not that easy to just copy. You've been working really hard.

[rassera]

[It's a nice change of pace from seeing Ken's eyes filled with a weight too much for him to bear. And it's certainly cleared the air between them. There's nothing Kaneda can hide from him now, either.

Were Ken not aligned to another cause, he'd have been a Capsule.

And even then, it's the thought that really counts, isn't it.]


Well at least someone notices my hard work around here~

[amadaman]

[In a way, what they have now is more meaningful than if they joined each other's groups. While Kaneda and Ken are acquainted with the other members of their teams, their relationship is in a way the strongest link between SEES and the Capsules, making them all the more powerful.

He laughs again and frees one of his hands to grab Kaneda's, squeezing it with a grin and pulling him along.]

We notice. I promise.

[rassera]

[An unbroken bond between two groups, forged by the leader of one and the follower of another.

Kaneda's pulled along easy enough--Ken's eager grab for his hand surprising but not unwelcome. It doesn't take long for those fingers to curl around his in return, a warmth spreading through him.]

Yeah, yeah...don't gotta soften me up!

[A teasing smirk escapes, reaching that opposite hand up to reach for his hair to ruffle it.]

[amadaman]

[[A year ago, Ken wouldn't have believed that he'd be doing something like this. Holding someone's hand, hugging them, being this honest. Now, it comes to him so naturally...

He ducks his head at the hand that lands on it and keeps on walking.]

You were soft to begin with!

[rassera]

[His hand slips through, catching air instead of his designated target. You win this time, Ken Amada.]

Hey, I'm not soft!

[Why's EVERYONE GOT TO SAY THAT?!]

[amadaman]

Crabs may seem tough but underneath they're super squishy.

[yes ken because that analogy even makes sense]

And yet they still taste good! Who knew?


[Everyone knew.


Wait where was Ken going with this.]

[Ken opens his mouth

Ken tries to figure out where he was going with that analogy
or where Kaneda is going with that response

Ken closes his mouth and shakes his head, sighs, and decides that he is too hungry to wait so he opens up the tupperware and picks out one slice of tamagoyaki to start snacking while they walk]

I have a feeling you just said something that would make Mr Bull laugh a lot but only Mr Bull.

[rassera]

[Well, it sounded a lot better in his head.

...There's a nudge of Ken's shoulder as they walk.]

--was kinda funny...

[It's like he's saying it to himself, but he's looking at Ken for that affirmation.

Don't deny it, Ken. Your bro has his own charm.]

[amadaman]

No it wasn't.

[But... Ken's laughing anyway, maybe the most genuinely that he's laughed in weeks. Quietly, but surely, and he looks just as at peace as he looks up at the sky, still eating those eggs.]

It's not a weakness, you know, having a soft spot. It's just a human thing to have.

[rassera]

It's not.

[Kaneda would be the first to agree there. Gentleness was something that certainly wasn't weak, just a different kind of strength. Tetsuo had it in stride, and in a way, deep down he had a little reserve of it himself, constantly shown to those close to him.

But it certainly couldn't survive in a tough world...Kaneda knew that better than anyone.]

But it has to be guarded.

[amadaman]

... Well, of course. Why else do you think it was only messed up kids like us that woke up to Personas?

[He puts the lid back on the eggs. And with a freed hand, he reaches over and nudges Kaneda's arm the way he did just seconds ago.]

Thanks for trusting us with it.

[rassera]

[That gets a smile out of him, feeling his arm move from Ken's push.]

You trusted me.

[Too much, if he thought about it objectively. Ken's trust in Kaneda almost got him sent to the hospital.]

[amadaman]

Of course I did.

[He says it easily, though they both know it wasn't easy. For both of them, trusting someone was not even close to second nature.]

You're someone worth trusting.

[rassera]

[It's rare to see Kaneda humbled, but the way he exhales, his breath forming a soft, misty cloud from his mouth, and the way he shoves those hands in his pockets, that comment means a lot.

His pace slows a little, but not enough to fall behind Ken, trying to think of an answer to that one. His usual one liners just weren't coming.]

You always can.

[He'll make sure of it.]
