[it's a resigned sort of acceptance, but somehow her words manage to escape any sort of negativity. it was probably a nothing gesture, maybe twenty minutes or so of Kaneda's time, but after the hits she's suffered recently it manages to knock her off balance almost effortlessly.

she crosses her arms over her chest, trying for nonchalant but just looking like she's trying to keep herself steady. what a fucking mess she was.]

[He watches her, the nervous way she folds her arms and the seemingly dismissive look she gives as he walks past. She's a lot like Tetsuo in a way, he would never really admit a thank you--not that Kaneda ever TAUGHT him one. But there's a reason those two understand each other, and as much as he hates to admit it, its a way he can't really understand himself.

Inviting her to stay? Probably one of his better ideas.

There's a quick shoulder pat as he walks past, starting towards the base of the stairs.

[she screams it at him as he ascends the stairway, more to avenge herself of that unwarranted shoulder pat than any lingering rage over the poor abused makeup pencils.

if Kaneda lingers by the basement door for a moment or two afterwards, however, he may get a peek at something a little more guarded. Hazel glares up at the now-empty stairs for a beat, just for good measure, before pulling the curtains around her and sitting down on the mattress. and from behind that fragile barrier, a quiet sob escapes.
