[ First Koro-chan, now Caps (that is, apparently, the dog's nickname now) -- damn the dogs of this house and their obvious ability to pick out her presence while she's cloaked.

Her lips give way for a smile even as she remains invisible, amused at her own blown cover thrice now because of the furry friends of Nonah. At this point, she'll just resign herself to the inevitable fact that she can't stay hidden from Nonah forever. ]

I think he's just excited to see me. Or smell me, I guess.

[ It's only then that she reveals herself, standing a few paces away with her arms folded. ]

Surprise.

Kasumi??

[Surprise is an understatement. His body hitches, going rigid at her voice. He'd recognize it anywhere--it was only the voice he'd had a crush on ever since he got here. And it isn't until she reveals herself to both him and Capsule that he regains composure, one hand in his pocket, the other reached up to rub the back of his neck. He doesn't exactly look at her, turning his head down to focus on the steps.]


Charlie's not here.

[Like that wasn't obvious.


That's why she'd shown up at all, right?]

[ She--wasn't quite expecting that, right from the get-go. Of course, it was obvious to anyone who'd seen them together that Kasumi and Charlie were like two peas in a pod; he was her best friend, and now he was gone, and so she stopped showing up to the house. She's surprised that Kaneda is so quick to reason as such, but at the same time, she's really not that surprised.

Kasumi is stunned into silence for a moment, mouth slightly agape, before her lips draw into a thin, hesitant line, and she responds. ]

I know that.

I just... wanted to check up on you all.

[rassera]

[Brows raise, although his hand remains on the back of his neck, rubbing it like it as if there was an invisible strained muscle in hiding. Awkward doesn't even begin to describe it, the way he feels right now.

It's a bitter feeling, because it hammered in everything about his childhood that he'd learned the hard way. Charlie left. Quill didn't stop by anymore. By now, it was a pattern Kaneda knew too well. Adults, for all their talk about being there for you...for all their togetherness and family...

They all did the same thing. Leave.

It's not like he can be mad about it.]

You did?

[As much as he tries to hide it, his voice has that soft hint of hope in it. She'd come back, right? And small, secret part of him wonders how long she'd been there. Maybe she had for awhile.]

I'm still the same pain in the ass, don't worry.

[ He would be right to guess -- she'd already been by a few times, mostly undetected. But she's back now, she thinks, although she hesitates and likely will continue to for some time. She doesn't want them to think she'd abandon them, but without Charlie, it feels like a part of her is missing, a part to which she owes so much of the happiness she'd found over the past year, here -- and that's suddenly gone. She'll be floundering about and picking up the pieces for a while yet, but the least she can do now is be there for the rest of them.

So she gives Kaneda a fond smile, like a long-time-gone someone who's returned to find their friend's still the same. ]

Oh, so I don't need to worry about you, then. [ said teasingly, of course. ] Don't tell me you can make ramen all by yourself now, too?

[rassera]

[He can understand that. When Ken had left, it felt like a piece of his heart had torn out and gone with him. A piece he didn't even know he had. And it can only be the same for Kasumi right now. Only this time, there was no sign of Charlie coming back. He'd been gone too long for it to be...reasonable to think.

But she'd come back, and in that there's the small hope that both her and Bull share. That it's not always just kids against the world. His smile's less awkward now--how could it be, when she smiles back at him like that?]

Udon, actually!

[Yeah, he's pretty proud to admit it, too.]

Got the whole house's approval, too--even Tetsuo's if you can believe it. He's eating again, and with Maya--

...

[A pause.]

You have to meet Maya.

[ She finds her own smile getting just a bit bigger as he's talking, and she's nodding along -- his unbreakable spirit is contagious at times, after all. One can't help but be swept up along with it.

At his abrupt pause, she tilts her head. ]

You mean the girl who's been coming by pretty often?

[ That's right. Don't you think you can keep secrets from the galaxy's best thief, Kaneda. You can't.

(Also she was secretly keeping an eye on everyone after junglepalooza, okay.) ]

[rassera]

[The fact that she was able to just rattle that off like a fact of the day causes those eyes to widen, doe-like and blinking.

Before echoing it with a nervous laughter and throwing that hand up behind his head.]
