[Okay, yeah, now he remembers she said not to do that and he's noticing why. He feels kind of nauseous and his head is swimming, but he still bends over himself despite the pain of it to put a hand on the regalia. It helps soothe the crazy spike of anxiety that lances through him when Kururu mentions the motors--all Kazu's brain hears at first is 'TOUCHED MY A-T'. Which. Understandably. He was intensely paranoid about. No-one but Kazu had laid a hand on the delicate, internal parts of his A-T for a year now, not even when he had let Hiro take a look at them. He was meticulous about them, cleaning and servicing them after every run, no matter how tired he was... They meant too much to him for anything less.

Common sense thankfully catches up with him before he can give in to a kneejerk reaction. Vented the motors, right, that was good. Kururu knew her way around A-T, obviously. Sustained heat wasn't good for the guts. Especially after that run, which is starting to come to him in patches. Fuck.]

I. Yeeeah. Thanks. [And because his voice comes out kind of faintly and wobbly and stilted and because he had been a nanosecond away from almost yelling at her instead, he tries again.] For. Er. Venting the motors.

[ She shakes her head, and reaches for the asprin and the water on the bedside herself, offering him them both. ]

I wouldn't . . .

[ She knew better than anyone how precious the sounds in those wheels were, how important the chorus of parts, no matter how discordant it had become with his body. She'd held it all, once; their scratches, their burns, their faded ghosts and endless hope. Dismantled them completely, blended them in to a symphony of other sounds . . . and just as carefully teased their melody apart again, bringing them back home to those same fox-lined wheels. ]

External maintenance only. Just the release on the rear wheels.

[Reluctantly, he pulls his hand away from his A-T to take the water and the pills, sinking back as he knocks both back.]

Right. [Downing the water in several gulps give him a minute to think. It doesn't really help, so when he sets the glass aside and his gaze drifts back to Kururu he just looks... lost, a little dazed.]

How are you here?

[resoundingpledge]

[ That's . . . a question she hasn't let herself think about too deeply, or really, think about at all. Divine providence? Random chance? Maybe the truth is something in the middle, maybe it's the wind that blew through their world blowing them together again.

. . . maybe she's just here because Ikki-kun is here. ]

Everyone who came in through Heropa, we were all sent here. Evacuated. Ikki-kun and Yayoi-san and I met up in a park; we met Kaneda-san last night. When everything was cleared up he let us stay.

[ She looks back down at the bedsheets, at his covered legs. ]

It's been . . . six months, for you?

I haven't been missing for six months and just nobody noticed, right...?

No! No, even for Kazu-kun, that kind of power would be extreme.

You were . . . the day before, yesterday, all of Kogarasumaru was there. When you were challenged by 'Rumble Clover'.

[ If there was one thing to fix a moment in time, it was that. Other things might shift around, but none of them would forget a match. ]

It was my first time back in Japan in a while, but it . . . everything okay, then. No one was overworked at all. More like . . . it was the opposite of that, if anything.

Eh, Rumble Clover? Never heard of them. We won, right?

[ Kururu shakes her head, looking a little . . . no, a lot more awake, all of a sudden. ]

No. The battle type was Dash, and Ikki-kun was losing . . . they called it a draw.

[ The way she says it, it doesn't seem like a very big deal. ]

Kazu-kun, when did you . . . what's the last thing you remember, from home?

Even in dash, who the hell pulls a draw with the Sky King?


I dunno, nothing big. It had been like, six months since... [handwave] Ikki became Sky King. So about a year now.

[resoundingpledge]

Ahh, good. It's not too far off, then, even if we haven't lived through the time you've lived here.

[ Meanwhile, she steadfastly ignores Ikki's assault. ]

It was Simca-san. She's running again.

[THAT homewrecker]

Eeeh, she didn't pull anything, did she?

[resoundingpledge]

[ That one. ]

She and Ikki-kun were going to go on a date.

. . . but we're all here now, so it's probably not going to happen.

Good! She can't just charge in six months after the fact and screw the pairings up!

But Ringo-san isn't here.

She'll probably show up the minute someone else sets their sights on that moron crow.

[ But if we're here . . . ]

Does that mean someone was trying to steal you?

Me? Well, maybe it counts that Pan kind of stole me... borrowed... That can't be the reason, though. There's no way Ikki was summoned here just because his minion was temporarily requisitioned.

[resoundingpledge]

Have you ever been temporarily requisitioned before?

[At that, there's the THUD of Ikki falling off of the bed.

He jumps back up, reaching over Kazu to pull on her hair, sending clips flying everywhere.

Behind them, an eagle chews on the strings of a grand piano.]

WHO WAS?! THAT WAS NO WHERE NEAR LOSING!

IT WASN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM.

[resoundingpledge]

[ She barely budges at the assault, mindful of Kazu's legs. ]

The past six months, you've hardly really run at all.

You're out of shape.

[ Behind them both the piano's strings tangle around the eagle, immobilizing it in a shibari choke hold. ]

[The resulting sad wheeze of the discordant strings and the distressed eagle is actually Kazu having realized Ikki is in bed with him, and not a metatextual sound affect at all.]

[violentmotion]

[Oblivious to his minion's life and sexuality crisis, Ikki cringes. The words shoot through him like terrible arrows, each line of kanji and kana edged through his body.

A little reaper swings down through the window as his soul escapes.]

[resoundingpledge]

[ With a complete and utter lack of concern, Kururu nudges Ikki's corpse to lay more comfortably to the side of Kazu's legs, readjusting the ice packs that had been knocked off in the attack. ]

. . . you're going to have to start cleaning your wheels again, after last night.

[violentmotion]

[From the lump, face down on the covers.]

There's no way that battle's over.

Just paused for a little.

If he's rested up, it's going to be a real challenge.
