[Everything hurts so much but all told it's nothing he's not used to. Nothing feels... permanently fucked up (except maybe his head). But just as soon as he's finished taking stock of his body it occurs to him that he doesn't know where his regalia is and he scrambles up, barely managing to get a leg under him before it folds.

Falling out of bed, onto the floor, right in front of Tetsuo.]


T—Tetsuo?

[iamtetsuo]

Kazu?!

[He stops, completely. Kazu looks like he got hit by a bus. What the shit even happened?? Then again, Kazu did that stuff to himself before, so maybe it's not too surprising...

All this is punctuated by Tetsuo actually crouching down to Kazu's level like a human being who knows and remembers what feeling concern for another living being is, and what someone's supposed to do with that emotion.

What.]

Fuck! Shit. Ow. I'm, I'm fine.

[He realizes that the tuners had left his AT near the bed so he focuses on Tetsuo. Shit he has no idea what happened. Was Tetsuo caught up in it, too? Kazu looks him over anxiously.]

[iamtetsuo]

[He looks fine, physically. That's the best that can be said about it.]

What-

[His eyes flick up and down Kazu, before finding their way to the floor briefly. There's a lot of questions he has to ask, and only one word to ask them with. Does he want 'what happened' answered, seeing as there was literally nothing he could have done about it? Kaneda could. Kaneda did. Does he really want to know if Kaneda managed to save Kazu, considering...

Can he stand not knowing?]

What happened?

Ii. Am not totally sure.

[He blinks a little under Tetsuo's gaze and realizes he's in nothing but boxers. He quickly snatches the blanket off the bed and wraps it around himself, around his scarred shoulder and the multiple bruises.]

It all happened... [So fast? It did feel like a blur. But one thing that stands out his Kaneda. Fire. His Infinity Atmosphere. Tetsuo was wearing Kaneda's jacket--was that good or bad?]

Kaneda! Is he okay?!

[iamtetsuo]

[There's a pause where Tetsuo DOESN'T comment on that, but at least looks down when Kazu makes a mad dash for sheets. It's not THAT big a deal, but the second someone makes a big deal out of it... it suddenly very much is. Why you gotta make this even more awkward, Kazu, WHY. People already make jokes.

It's.. both good and bad, Kazu. There's no quick answer for that.]

He's fine.

["He's always fine".]

I could have killed him.

[He sinks back against the bed, trying to let it all sink in. His head is pounding and sending spikes of nausea through him, but hearing Kaneda is alright is a huge weight off of him.]

[iamtetsuo]

Doubt it. Kaneda can't die.

[That's too automatic a response for that to not be totally serious and well-versed. Trust him, Kazu, he's tried.

And wait a second. The followup's a little more curious than it normally would have been; there's no gloating or bitterness or... anything. Maybe he's thoroughly emotionally dead. More likely something else is going on.]

...what'd he do?

[Cause if YOU'RE trying to kill him, Kazu, he must've done SOMEthing. Right?]

[Even with his own brain being a trainwreck and his body not being much better off, Kazu can sort of feel there's something off about Tetsuo. But he can't quite put his finger on what.]

Er, well, I think I was brainwashed.

[iamtetsuo]

You think you were-?

[What. The hell. HAPPENED. After he died???]

Okay, no, I'm pretty sure. I... I was guarding something important, for Pan. And then Kaneda showed up.

So you didn't get caught in it...?

[iamtetsuo]

[A string of emotions crosses Tetsuo's face in rapid succession ; alarm, pain, almost a pleading look... then his teeth snap together and his expression becomes closed off and dark, eyes keeping to the floor.]

...no.

[burnmetwice]

[Kazu blinks, because there's no way he missed that, but he got the distinct impression it was best not to ask. Yet. He didn't think Tetsuo would tell the truth right now, anyway. But that was fine, he could ask Kaneda later... and it'd probably be better to wait until his head was on a laittle straighter.]

... Good. I'm glad.

[iamtetsuo]

So. You said...you were helping Pan?

[Said very quietly.]

[burnmetwice]

Not because I wanted to! ... He did something to my head.

[iamtetsuo]

Like what?

[burnmetwice]

I honestly don't remember... It was definitely some kind of brainwashing, though.

[iamtetsuo]

[ Tetsuo still doesn't look up. He can't make himself, and he hates himself all the more for that fact, eyes narrowing and mouth curving down even further. What's he supposed to believe anymore?

What weak, pitiful kind of idiot is he, that he can't even confront this like he wants to?]

When I was fighting Kaneda... Haaah, it sounds stupid and cliche but I could sort of feel that something was wrong. I couldn't get my memories to line up.

[iamtetsuo]

Your memories...?

[That's enough to make him go back into the conversation.]

You mean like when we...?

[He makes a back and forth circling motion with his hand held between the two of them.]

Ah... I guess so? It kinda felt like I had memories that didn't really make sense if they were mine.

[iamtetsuo]

[It's really hard to know what to even SAY to that. Other than no matter what, Tetsuo thoroughly did lose.

He goes back to not looking at Kazu, staring darkly at some fixed point without paying attention to what it is. If Kazu didn't betray him intentionally, that means Tetsuo caused this. He kinda did.

He's guessing Kazu really has no idea what happened. Maybe he should say, but he can't make himself.]

What kinda memories?

[It's like he hears his voice ask the question in that dumb soft tone he can't get out of, rather than intentionally asks. Going through the motions rather than living them.]

Mm... That I'd been living with Peter as one of his goons, mostly. I didn't remember you or Kaneda at first.

[iamtetsuo]
