[Max sniffles, feeling foolish, and steps inside, setting down the pizza before sitting at the couch. She doesn't speak, for a moment; she merely hiccups and wipes a tear from her face.]

[He lets her settle, shuffling off to the kitchen for a minute. When he comes back, he's got a soda and a handful of paper towels.]

Shouldn't I be doing that for you?

[But at least she's smiling a little now. She takes the soda, and one of the paper towels, and... sticks a slice of pizza on it.

Hey, I don't cry. Unless we're cutting onions. I hate those things.

[He quirks his eyebrow, before shuffling back to the kitchen, then bringing her another paper towel.]

[Max honestly had no idea why you're bringing her those paper towels. Seriously, there are so many, and she doesn't intend to eat that much pizza. But then again, Max is a little clueless sometimes.

But she gets it this time, and gratefully accepts one, gently dabbing at her eyes.]

[He smirks, nodding approvingly when she understands why he's throwing tissue-substitutes at her.]

[She's so sick of people telling her that everything's fine. Even if people come back, it doesn't change the fact that they died to begin with. That had to have hurt.]

People died, and there were so many people at the school, and they were so scared, and Professor Callaghan was missing, and I didn't know what to do! And you're hurt!

[He's lowered his voice. Looking at her seriously and directly. Every word is heavier, more direct.]
