[Maya's awake already, so she's heard Komasan in the kitchen-- but she never expected him to actually wake Kaneda up. It sounded a lot quieter from Kaneda's room, where she was getting dressed, after all.

What didn't sound quieter?

Kaneda's yelling. Shortly after he calls for her, the sound of quick footsteps hurrying down the stairs is audible.]

What?! What is it?!

[CLEARLY SOMETHING MUST BE HORRIBLY WRONG

...But apparently, Maya doesn't think that the thing that's wrong is the Komainu sitting on the couch.]

[Komasan is apparently in his own little world, because he doesn't seem at all worried. He's still on the couch, snug as a bug, sipping his chocolate milk like a champ.]

Monge~!

[He holds a paw to his cheek after his first sip, engulfed in chocolatey goodness.]

Everything came out so perfect, zuraaa~

[Seeing as Kaneda has yet to sit down, Komasan pats the spot next to him once he's done raving over his concoction. Come, Kaneda, join him.]

[Kaneda hasn't moved from the entrance to the kitchen, looking up at the stairs where Maya's voice had come from. Did she even see the komainu? Was he just going crazy?

From the looks of it, Maya doesn't seem to notice him...

When she stops at the bottom of the stairs, Kaneda's still looking at her, chocolate milk still in his hand, and Komasan still drinking his happily on the couch.

But he doesn't want to scare the obvious hallucination, so he'll mouth his sentence instead. Sloooowly moving to sit down on the couch.

Are you seeing this?]

[It takes a moment, but as Maya watches Kaneda slowly sit next to Komasan-- and then ask her if she's seeing him-- Maya can't help but laugh.]

He's not gonna hurt you!

Komasan, did you introduce yourself to Kaneda?

I'm Komasan, it's very nice to meet you, zura.

[It's like a recording at this point, the way he just dishes out his introduction like that. As Kaneda sits next to him, Komasan leans his giant dog head against him affectionately, although he doesn't actually turn to face him.

Just...leans.

Instead, he focuses his attention on Maya.]

I made chocolate milk in the kitchen, Miss Maya! Y-You can have some, it's really good, zura!

HA! And here I thought I was just crazy!

[Riiiiight Maya? He's not crazy, right?

But his gaze turns to the glass in his hand, and then to the komainu that had taken up a spot on his arm, he takes a sip of it. Because when a komainu gives you a glass of chocolate milk, you might as well drink it, right? Otherwise it's just a waste of good chocolate milk.

Which was true. It was pretty good.]

The name's Kaneda, and it's--

wait. -zura?

Thank you, Komasan!

[She nods, walking back toward the kitchen, apparently satisfied with Komasan's introduction and ready for chocolate milk.

She stops at the entryway, though, leaning back to look at them and mouthing to Kaneda--

Yeah you are.

Then grinning and turning back to go into the kitchen.]

[The moment Kaneda ends his sentence--if you can even call it that--with "zura," he finally gets Komasan's full attention. This bean is absolutely thrilled.]

Monge!! I didn't know you were from the countryside, too, zura!

[HOORAY THAT MAKES THEM INSTANT FRIENDS.

BEST FRIENDS FOREVER.]

I'm not! I'm from the city--

[Kaneda watches her, as if she was his only lifeline to sanity as she walks through the living room, towards the kitchen and....yes, his head is following her as she disappears through that door.

DON'T LEAVE HIM.]

I've just never heard it outside of movies, you know?

O-Oh, that's too bad, zura...

[He thought you were cool, Kaneda.]

But w-we can still be friends, right, z-zura?

Friends?

[He finally turns his gaze down to the little youkai, swirling that glass of milk in thought.]

Hmmmm....that depends. Is your chocolate milk always this good?

E-Eh, no, not always, zura...

Sometimes I put whipped cream in it, zura.

Haha!

[That gets a laugh out of him, running his forefinger to the center of Komasan's forehead, scritching right between the flame brows.]

That sounds even better!

Alright, we're friends.

[Oh, wow, okay, getting kinda personal there. They just met, shouldn't he, like, buy him dinner before we get into the petting?

Komasan won't say no to pets, and it's clear from the expression on his face that he's enjoying it. Not that he'd lie, anyway, but gosh it'd be hard if he wanted to.]

O-Oh, stop, y-you're going to make me blush, zura~

[You know, he always knew Capsule liked getting pet right there, but it's harder to tell on an actual dog. Their faces can't show as much expression as...this. One more scritch and he stops, moving his hand back to lean on the couch and take another sip.]

Does...anyone else know you're here?

[Do you even live here?]

Miss Maya knows I'm here, zura.

[She was just here, you big dummy. How did he forget already?]

My angry friend knows I'm here, too. In fact, I've been here longer than I've been anywhere else since I came to the US, zura.

I said anyone else.

[He'd thought Maya was obvious!]

...So you've been helping Maya around here? Take care of the house?

Heheh...I help sometimes, but it's usually Miss Maya who takes care of me, zura~

[He sways back and forth on the couch.]

She lets me sleep on her tummy sometimes, zuraa~

Luccckkyyy!

[There's a smirk, setting down that glass on the table to watch the komainu's happy little wiggle.]

[...lucky?]

Don't tell me...you want to sleep on her tummy too, zura!!

You...you can't! You'll crush her, zura!

[HE WON'T ALLOW IT.]

I know! I'm not small and cute like you!

I have to do something cooler instead.

[What a great conversation to be having with Maya JUST IN THE OTHER ROOM.]

What's cooler than being cute and small, zura?

[Give him a minute.]

...hm...

You're gonna...skateboard down a mountain, zura?!

[It's okay, he's thinking during that minute too.]

...

Skateboards?

Nah, nah! You need a motorcycle! That's how you look cool!

Ah, I see, zura.

[Another pause.]

I can't ride motorcycles, my legs are too small, zura.

[...They aren't talking about you, Komasan.]

Oi, that's why you're the cute one!

[But not riding a motorcycle? He feels for you, little dude.]

You just gotta find a way to ride along.
