[Tetsuo's wide eyes are met with ones of panic, searching that face for any sort of answer. He doesn't know what went on in his head, but he's trying to desperately understand.

It's almost automatic, the way he slides next to him, arms pulling him close. It was amazing how easy it was to do this now, when it had been the one thing they never thought to do.

A hand reaches up, pressing Tetsuo's head gently to his shoulder.]

Oi, oi, oi....it's okay. It's okay, alright?

[Just a week or so ago, Kaneda doing this would have resulted in getting thrown through a wall, or worse. All he does now is flinch as Kaneda pulls him, tense and hyperventilating, into a protective embrace.

He doesn't even try to hide the flinch when one hand moves to his back, but he's too frozen in place to do anything about it. His hand grips at Kaneda's arm hard, keeping it exactly in place, his other one still pressed protectively against his chest.

This is what's really happening? He's left staring at Kaneda's sleeve, then nothing, and he squeezes his eyes shut as his forehead presses against something reassuringly solid.]

[Kaneda doesn't understand the weight of the nightmare. He can't--he won't ever see what Tetsuo sees in those. All he can do is respond to them, run to him, and hold him until everything was okay again. That's what he did when Tetsuo cried all those nights in the children's home...

It was no different.

His hand keeps to Tetsuo's upper back, rubbing right between the shoulderblades, cheek resting on his head.]

You're awake, alright? I got--you got me.

[iamtetsuo]

[It takes a while before Tetsuo can make himself move, waiting for pain that doesn't come, until reality manages to fully reassert itself. His breathing grows a little deeper, taking shaky breaths in. His hand relaxes on his chest, but doesn't move away, and slowly he lessens his grasp on Kaneda's arm as the immediate panic starts to subside

Tetsuo doesn't like anyone touching his back, but he's got just enough trust left in his system to doubt that Kaneda would stab him there, or.. do anything. If- if Kaneda wanted to kill him, he could have done so in his sleep already. Tetsuo's not paranoid enough to realize he could have not noticed.

...he's too fucking old to have nightmares like this. Too damn old to need this.]
