I just saw him over--

[Maya perks up, eager to have his answer immediately, turning around to point to the livingroom.

At an empty space.

Where there is an indent in a couch cushion, where Grim once was. He is no longer there.]

...There.

[She was so close.

SO CLOSE.]

...Well. He was.

[How much does he want to risk encountering that thing in his quest for the critter he wants to encounter]

Forget it. He'll show up, I guess.

[About that much. He'll just turn to head back in 3..2..]

Mn--- no! I-- I can help you look for him!

[She extends her hand-- not too close-- as if to stop him.]

Uh, have you checked the bathroom? Here, let me go find him!

[And just like that, she darts past, eager to search for Grim-- almost like she's trying to prove herself.]

[He watches her go. What part of 'forget it'- and she's gone.

Okay... It's just a cat. It's not like it's an emergency, he doesn't have to have the cat NOW...]

[But Maya doesn't seem to think it isn't urgent. Tetsuo expressing that there's something he wants?

She's going to find it. She's going to show him she can be useful-- helpful. To him, to the others-- that she's worthy of his trust. Even if it's for something as dumb as finding Grim.

Pacing down the hallway she makes 'tt-tt!' clicks of her tongue, looking around for the darn cat, and-- well. She passes Dalish, at least, who MYAAAs loudly at her in protest of Kaneda's absence. After sating Dalish with a pet or two she continues her search, trying to think up ways to draw Grim out from his hiding place.]

[After an awkward moment of hanging around uselessly watching her, he ends up following from a distance, just barely curious enough to see where she's going with this to hang around. His body language is tense, and his steps slow, dragging hesitantly along as if he's having to force every step.

He halts every time once she's in view again.

Cats don't come when you call them. They're cats. He's learned this.]

[Oh, but Maya has a plan, suddenly. She's passing Tetsuo when this plan hits her and she stops dead in her tracks, eyes widening and the idea hitting her like a slap to the face.

She turns on her heel and heads for the kitchen, looking around for a bag-- any bag. Capsule is still in Kaneda's room with the door closed, so there's no worry of him falling for this trick, too.

Coming out to the livingroom, Maya starts to shake a bag of--- well, they're dog biscuits, but it'll do. Cats can't read.

And just like that, Skinner pops her head out first. Then Dalish...]

[Genuine confusion crosses his face, followed by brief alarm as she passes right next to him. But she doesn't do anything, and is gone before he can react.


A cat head pokes out, and....ah. Now he sees. Cat after cat slowly appears, wandering curiously or imperiously towards the source of potential treats.

He keeps an eye out, finally moving out of sight and away from the increasing chorus of cats to intercept 'his' cat on the way in. Found him. Time to collect and go back, right]

[blessed ancestor Ami, that actually worked. How.

Maya grins as bright as the sun when Grim is collected.]

There he is!

See? No problem.

[...It's fine, Tetsuo, she talks enough for both of you, apparently.]

[Shifting his grip on the unprotesting feline until he's roughly holding him in the way Bull showed him, Tetsuo mutters something unintelligible and starts to head off]

[Maya's eyes widen.

What-- was that? It couldn't have been a thank-you or something.

But Maya is nosy, and she can't stop herself.]

What'd'ya say?

Said 'whatever'.

[Your hopes are adorable, Maya. I'm so sorry.]

[But she got an answer.

That's new.

She grins like a cheshire-- not quite teasing, but more stupidly satisfied with herself.]
