BEGINNERS

[Essentially what it says in the subject line! For those who have never had any kind of formal training and want to learn the basics of self-defense. There are two options you can pick from:

1) One to one tuition

2) Group class

1 - Oct 23rd

[Hermann considers backing out of their meeting several times. He gets dressed into comfortable clothing and feels rather like he's going to a public gym full of professional athletes for a short regime of physical therapy. Despite the caffeine he downs in the kitchen, he's well aware that he'll run out of energy and quickly. He hadn't exactly been specific when he'd told her he wasn't in top form- which was something of an understatement to the point of being discourteous.

But not going is pure cowardice and failure in itself, so he forces himself out the door. Worst-case scenario, she spots his cane and immediately apologizes- and alright yes, that would be rather humiliating.. He should possibly have asked Newton to come along, but he is a grown man and does not need a sitter to ensure he makes all his appointments.

The trip there is something of a test of willpower in itself, exhausting in a mental capacity until he's reached the point where he's resolved to walk in, then teleport himself right back home if it looks like he might have to field any platitudes. Yes, this was potentially a very terrible idea.

But he squares his shoulders before the doors, then shoves them open and walks in with purposeful strides. Fortunately, he spots her rather quickly, and to his immense relief, she doesn't appear to be instructing anyone else. Hermann mercilessly stamps down the self-conscious insecurity that threatens to crop up, and approaches her with his free hand outstretched.]

Ms. Carter, I am Doctor Hermann Gottlieb. A pleasure to meet you.

[Like she said in her post announcing the training sessions, all Peggy was asking for were people who were willing to learn and to put in the hard work, regardless of their ability or experience. If her tutelage could give someone the confidence they needed then she considered it a victory.

When she sees Hermann coming towards her with an outstretched hand, Peggy doesn't hesitate in taking it. She offers him a polite smile.]

Hello, Doctor Gottlieb. It is a pleasure to meet you in person. Thank you for coming along to a training session.

[Peggy can't tell how many lessons he'll need or even want to attend, but an assessment of his current skill level will have to happen.]

I hope it wasn't difficult to find the place.

Haen - ota

[ Haen finds out where the beginners are gathering and heads for that area. She's glad that Peggy is offering this sort of class, as given what they seem to be expected to do while they're in this world -- and being called heroes certainly is inspiring! -- but she confesses she wouldn't have known where to start otherwise. She's quite physically fit, as her job being a Flicker requires, but it'll be fairly evident after watching her for a few moments that she hasn't had anything in the way of training before.

Half the time, she ends up watching what other people are practicing, and keeping up a spirited running commentary on it. ]

Good guanines but you have an impressive range of motion! Didn't that hurt? Hopefully not! It's certainly important to stretch beforehand, you know, always stretching is a good tip no matter what sort of activity you're into. Think of it like exercise foreplay, in a way.

[ She decides to wait until Haen finishes talking before heading over to her. Peggy was glad that she had turned up to her training sessions, knowing that her enthusiasm was pretty much endless. ]

[Tiffany shows up on her own, just as one of the group classes is ending. Once the students have been dismissed, she approaches Peggy, a crumpled ten-dollar bill in hand.]

Hey. I don't know if I count as a beginner or not, 'cause I can fight, but...

[She's never had any formal training.]

Hello. [Peggy greets her with a warm smile when she approaches, turning her attention fully to Tiffany.]

If you have some experience, that's good. But if you don't feel entirely confident with your fighting skills, you can consider yourself a beginner.

[ at least she regularly exercised. that is about all she could find good about this. on basics and she already aches. she is definitely getting her money's worth. another thing to feel good about.

during a break, claire takes a long swig of her water. pulling the hairpin off, she tousles her hair before pinning it back up. the pains of going too short for scrunchies. turning back around, she exhales with a smile. ]

[ it's only now that peggy gets a break herself and takes some water before stretching out her muscles; she's pleased with how well her students were doing and claire was such an example.

she smiles in return, a little breathless. ]

Within the SSR or Strategic Scientific Reserve. I'm afraid I can't tell you much about the work we did as it's top secret.

INTERMEDIATE

[For those who have experience and want to build upon their current skills; maybe even help out other students in the lesson.

Like with the beginners, there are two options you can pick from:

[ Kitty looks a little self-conscious and awkward, just because she doesn't wholly know where to go. She has fighting skills, to be certain. But all those skills are about ending the fight swiftly and brutally. She can fight with knives, and knows the places to strike to take a life quickly, especially the life of something much bigger and more brutal than yourself. She knows how to throw knives, too, and other projectiles. She knows how to shoot. But grappling and subduing an opponent without making them bleed out is a skill she doesn't have, and a skill she wants.

So she stands over to the side, taking off her shoes, removing her watch and hairpins and anything that might catch, and quietly watching everyone else present. Trying to calculate who might be able to help her most. ]

[ Not only was Peggy taught how to use her fists and feet in a fight, but she was also told to use things around her. Objects close to hand that she could use against whomever she was fighting- even if it lacked a little finesse it was still effective. But she wasn't here to teach her students the art of hitting people with a blunt object.]

They were going to be taught properly and learn how to defend themselves without needing to cause serious harm to anyone else. Just enough so that they could get out of the situation.

Peggy comes up to Kitty as she was getting herself ready, giving her a smile.

Just a quick brush up, if it's not inconvenient? Having a new lease on life has it's… responsibilities, let's say. [ He's a man who dodges actual fighting as best he can and there's now hypnotism to add to his skill set. Still better to prepare for possibilities that may never happen then find yourself on the wrong end of one that is. ] I served in the army to give you a picture of my training.

Not at all. I welcome everyone who wishes to learn, regardless of how much experience they may or may not have. [ Peggy replies with a smile, back straightening automatically when she heard that he served in the army. ] I also served in the army. Might I have your name please, sir?

[ He didn't really need physical fitness training, but he'd been willing enough the first time to add it to his repetoire of skills, when Cap taught him a few years ago. But, that really wasn't why he was here to brush up. He didn't need it, not with the Extremis virus, and not with his suit only a thought away.

But hell, if it was a way to see Ms. Carter in action,

And also a way to meet other people (aka pick up chicks) so he'd do it.

Although it's mostly with a relaxed air that he was there. Not exactly here to be serious, but not here to cause trouble, either. ]

[ Peggy had been offering tips to the other members of the class she was teaching when she noticed Tony at the back of the room. She was glad to see him actually turning up, unaware of any ulterior motive that he may have had. ]

Mr. Stark, how nice to see you here.

[ A pleasant smile as she walks towards him. ]

[Riza did not attend the class with the intention of socializing. But the gentleman in the corner looked vaguely familiar to her, and she couldn't initially place why--she was sure she'd seen his face before. But where?

A few minutes of careful thought later and it dawns on her: he was the owner of Stark Technologies, the company that Winry worked for.

And while she is a bit loathe to admit it, Riza is fascinated interested in the unusual technology in Heropa at least ninety-eight percent of the time. So, since she's early and Tony appears currently unoccupied, she approaches him.]

Mr. Stark? [Riza smiles politely, offering her hand.] I don't believe we've met, but a good friend of mine works for you--Winry Rockbell. I've heard lots about you.

ADVANCED

[Those who are at the top of any kind of training they have and wish to keep those skills going by sparring with either Peggy or another student.

[So it's not that he doesn't think Athos and d'Artagnan aren't good sparring partners. He absolutely does and he has a lot of faith in them, only he sees the way they wince sometimes when Porthos comes at him, which means that he can only take advantage of their offers for so long before he has to search elsewhere. Peggy's offer had been perfect, so here he is, standing at his very tallest and searching for someone to fight]

Don't worry. I hardly bite.

[After the haunted house incident at the last swear-in, Kang has come to realize that he (naturally) relies on the superior strength, claws and fangs, and extra appendages of his normal form in combat, and he may not always have access to them on this world. Being the practical draconian that he is, this just won't do.]

I can guarantee my bite would be worse. But, that defeats the purpose of why I'm here. I need to learn to fight like a human.

Jacob Taylor [OTA]

[Jacob has spent most of his military career fighting solely with powers and guns, with fists a last resort if things got really bad. But being a 'super-hero' places a whole new emphasis on taking down criminals alive, which usually involves getting in fistfights with them. That's why Jacob's here: learning how to come out on top of those fights faster and better than he already is.

It's not like he's an amateur to start with. He's military-trained, with exceptional physical conditioning and hands-on experience with the Hornets and the worst of Maurtia Falls under his belt. Whoever his sparring partner right now is, he faces them with confidence and a ready stance, hands up for the fight.]

[After seeing what Jacob was capable of a few months back during the fear gas crisis, Peggy was curious about his hand to hand combat skills. Which is why she isn't going to pass up the opportunity to actually spar with him.

She stands opposite him, getting into position. Peggy liked to see confidence in a sparring partner and she didn't think that Jacob was going to be any different.]

Riza Hawkeye - OTA

[The blonde whose turned up in the group class doesn't look like she's here for information--while Riza listens intently she cleary came with an understanding of combat mechanics. A decade of military service will tend to do that to you.

Even still, Riza is polite and approachable, and whill she doesn't directly challenge anyone she does seem willing to spar with whoever approaches--and teach or helps if she can. ]

[ he remembers spotting her post on the network, and hadn't answered to it due to the whole '18+ only' rule. being that thomas doesn't remember any of his life before showing up in the maze, aside from bits and pieces of it, he can't actually give a definite for how old he is, but '16' had been the guess, then. that was about a year ago. he'd figured, at some point, while here, he had a birthday, so he's started saying '17' when asked. better that 'like i freaking know'. but even still, there'd been advertisements for self-defense and combat training things before, and he hadn't really jumped. he knows how to take care of himself, mostly, as much as he'd rather he didn't. nothing in formal training just the 'i don't want to die, i don't want to die' school of desperate fighting, tooth and nail.

but peggy had seemed kind, and she'd been steve's friend. so. he's at least coming by to watch. when she gets out of one of the classes, thomas is hanging out nearby, just spectating. ]

So... what if I technically don't know how old I am? [ asking with a tone that's probably joking. he's not really that concerned about not getting into a class. he's at least in a good enough mood for joking, at the moment. ] I mean. I could be 18. Nobody can prove I'm not.
