[ Charlie’s heart would always belong to little used bookstores, but there was no denying that the big box places had their own sort of charm. In part, what prompted this little trip to Sheddes & King, a major chain bookstore located in downtown Nonah, was that Reika had given Charlie a gift card for his birthday. The fact that he hadn’t spent it yet was an absolute tragedy.

The other part that had prompted this trip would be the Pines twins, who were currently tagging along with the wizard. If he’s being perfectly honest, he’s not exactly sure what he’s getting into with this trip, but he promised them they could come along, so here they are.

The building is large, all red brick and wide, clean windows. It’s one of the bigger bookstores Charlie’s been to in a while, and ever a book nerd at heart, he can’t quite keep the little smile off his face when they step inside. ]

Okay you two, where to first?

[It's a bookstore! Full of books! Dipper's almost vibrating with excitement.]

Can we check out Paranormal History? Or Supernatural Lore? Conspiracy books?!

[Mabel is noticeably less excited, but still happy to be here. Because Charlie! Hanging out with Charlie! Yay!]

You know what's dumb? The Paranormal History section is never right next to the Paranormal Romance section?

[If you'd like anything to do with the roommate from hell, here's the place for it. Hit me up on plurk to plot or throw a starter in, I'm up for any sort of shenanigans, resident or not resident. It's all fun and games until someone loses a door.

As a note, Tetsuo's room is the one that's missing a window, a door (technically - he stole Kaneda's), any lightbulbs, and maybe part of a shelf. You really can't miss it.]

[Did you know that Nonah 005 has a backyard? It does. They all know that. But Ken and Bull still use the living room anyway, and this is Ken's first time coming out here with the intention of training. It's actually pretty big and probably useful for training on any other day, too, but whatever. He tests the ground, hopping up and down on the grass as Koromaru zips right on by to find some place to call his corner, and he turns to face Kaneda once he's in the middle of the lawn. It's August and he doesn't have his school blazer on, so it's quite visible today, the white holder and silver gun he has strapped to his waist, just in case.]

They probably put it closer to sci-fi and fantasy because they’re more similar.

And Dipper- I didn’t know you were into supernatural stuff.

Kind of a humanoid-looking flesh-eating monster thing. It was pretty much as gross as it sounds.

[Kaneda had taken his jacket off too, tossing it to the ground (and making sure it wasn't touched by Koromaru) and rolling his shoulders to loosen them up. It'd been awhile since he really brawled, his only weapon at the moment being his fists. But that was really all he needed.

Disarming was the name of his game. Whether it be knocking someone off a bike, or heaving a weapon from their unconscious body, he was a master at improv.

...

Okay. He didn't expect a gun.]

Hey, kid? What's the big idea with the pistol?

Did you seriously bring a gun to a knife fight? [yeah, he's still on about Koromaru being a knife master.]

Actually, usually we're bringing knives to gun fights. This isn't a regular gun.

[He brought it along mostly just in case. Just in case that luck related power of Kaneda's was crazier than they're anticipating. He doesn't plan to use it for the sparring today, and he has a brush leaning against the wall too, if he decides to use that instead of his real weapon.]

What do you want to try? If you want to disarm me, I'll use the brush.

8/04 -Morning

[Well that certainly was a night. And Kaneda had the bruises to prove it. Turns out Tetsuo's been flexing that mind muscle of his, because when he had found out about that visitor, he'd become a human pinball and the door was the flipper.

Do you know what it's like landing on the couch at an odd angle and walking it off? At a high speed? Kaneda does.

So cue him in the morning sitting with a bowl of cereal, feet kicked up on the table as he tries to ignore the dull ache in his back. Waiting for Tetsuo to walk out of HIS DOOR.

Yeah, Tetsuo took his door too. ASSHOLE.]

[Tetsuo barely slept that night. Tetsuo barely slept any night. His nerves were shot, his small amount of patience was fractured into as many jagged edges as his window used to be, and the last scraps he'd had of having anything akin to a decent night had been thoroughly ruined by Kaneda being.. well, Kaneda.

That bastard. He deserved what he got.

Tetsuo took some time to force himself up and out of his room, blearily shoving Kaneda's his door out of the way and meandering through a foggy haze. He wasn't really paying attention to his surroundings, instead aiming his body in a beeline through the house towards the kitchen.]

Even if you did it in a team that's still cool! You're a wizard and a monster puncher!

Also Dipper you have to promise not to spend the whole time in that section, okay? I'm gonna time you!

[His head tilts as he watches that door open, 'open' being a generous term for what it actually was. It was like Tetsuo had moved a flat rock in front of his door and slid it open.

He wants that back, by the way. And he's going to take it.

Although there's no words coming out of his mouth, instead putting a large spoonful of cereal into it instead, dully watching Tetsuo make his way into the kitchen.

It's really hard not to say anything. He's really trying.

[Mechanically, Tetsuo pulls down and assembles what America swears counts as standard breakfast food. It doesn't; he'd kill for at least something more familiar to be standard around here, but that's what's there.

He knows Kaneda's there by now. He can feel his attention on him, but he's nowhere near awake or aware enough to really care. It's too much effort to take this somewhere farther than the kitchen table.

So, without a word or even looking up, Tetsuo sits down heavily across from Kaneda and tries his best to ignore his existence.]

Looks like a regular gun to me. Handle, barrel...I guess bullets.

[He tightens his gloves, though, making sure they're right and comfy on his hands before readying himself. He had no idea if his luck had to be triggered, or if it was automatic. But there was always one way to find out.]

Hold on a second, kid. Got one thing to do before we start.

[Yes, he's pulling out a coin from his pocket.]
