[Kaneda had taken his jacket off too, tossing it to the ground (and making sure it wasn't touched by Koromaru) and rolling his shoulders to loosen them up. It'd been awhile since he really brawled, his only weapon at the moment being his fists. But that was really all he needed.

Disarming was the name of his game. Whether it be knocking someone off a bike, or heaving a weapon from their unconscious body, he was a master at improv.

...

Okay. He didn't expect a gun.]

Hey, kid? What's the big idea with the pistol?

Did you seriously bring a gun to a knife fight? [yeah, he's still on about Koromaru being a knife master.]
amadaman: ((p3) 052)

[personal profile] amadaman 2015-08-07 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, usually we're bringing knives to gun fights. This isn't a regular gun.

[He brought it along mostly just in case. Just in case that luck related power of Kaneda's was crazier than they're anticipating. He doesn't plan to use it for the sparring today, and he has a brush leaning against the wall too, if he decides to use that instead of his real weapon.]

What do you want to try? If you want to disarm me, I'll use the brush.
rassera: (He's gone...)

[personal profile] rassera 2015-08-07 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Looks like a regular gun to me. Handle, barrel...I guess bullets.

[He tightens his gloves, though, making sure they're right and comfy on his hands before readying himself. He had no idea if his luck had to be triggered, or if it was automatic. But there was always one way to find out.]

Hold on a second, kid. Got one thing to do before we start.

[Yes, he's pulling out a coin from his pocket.]

Call it.
amadaman: ((p3) 087)

[personal profile] amadaman 2015-08-07 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh.

[Ken doesn't take much time to figure out what Kaneda's up to at least.]

Tails.
rassera: (This is my jam)

[personal profile] rassera 2015-08-07 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[At Ken's call, he flips it, watching it go up a moment before catching it.

Repeating this for about five times.]

Heads.

Heads.

Heads.

Heads.

[A smirk as he pockets that coin.]

Looks like we're dealing with a stroke of good luck. You ready?
amadaman: ((p3) 112)

[personal profile] amadaman 2015-08-08 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

[Ken raises his hand, waiting for Koromaru to scamper off out of the way before he swings it down. It's the same as usual for him. A flick of his wrist is just enough to trigger it; a flash of light, a wave of electricity that ripples out from where he stands, and it always makes Ken's hair stand on end but the spear appears right in his hand. Ken's quick to adjust his grip, spinning it around a couple times and standing in a ready stance now.]

I'm ready.
rassera: (LOOK AT YOUR BABY MUSCLES)

[personal profile] rassera 2015-08-08 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Okay, that was pretty cool. It just appeared out of nowhere--just like his bike, which seemed like a really handy way to keep it. The house didn't really lend itself to house giant spears.

It is an odd thing to see a ten year old wield, but at the same time, it looks oddly at home in Ken's hands.]

Alright.

[One more roll of his shoulders, he puts his fists up, looking for a way to attempt to disarm the boy. Figuring to test Ken's reflexes on him making the first move, he advances, closing the distance between the two to get melee attacks in. He knew spears were usually not meant for up close, after all.]
amadaman: ((p3) 043)

[personal profile] amadaman 2015-08-09 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Kaneda's right, and with his longer legs it's not hard for him to get close quick. But Ken hasn't been training with close combat for nothing, either, and he's quick on his feet. And also cheating, a little, because he uses a little bit of his power to kick off the ground, which lets him easily clear Kaneda's head and end up behind him.

As much as he trusts Kaneda not to try to kill him on accident if he had any superstrength... he also does not want to be accidentally killed.]
rassera: (And this one)

[personal profile] rassera 2015-08-09 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Okay, that was pretty impressive. Power or not, Ken used it to his advantage, and no sooner had he tried to throw a punch than he felt his fist meet air, Ken leaping up and over him. His feet skid on his heels, attempting to make a turn mid movement.

So Ken was an agile fighter, he'd have to keep that in mind.]
amadaman: ((p3) 113)

[personal profile] amadaman 2015-08-09 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Agility is Ken's best tool and he's going to use the hell out of it. If Kaneda's in luck, he's not as worried and he's not going to go easy if they're sparring to train. What'll be the point otherwise? He twists around mid-jump, knowing better than to turn his back on any opponent, least of one he doesn't know yet, and he's lucky that his momentum carries him out of Kaneda's immediate reach. He spins the spear one more time so that the butt of the handle is facing up when he lands again, aimed so that if Kaneda steps in straight immediately upon turning, it'll jab right into his Adam's apple. He's not about to point the blade at least.]
rassera: (Bottom half of the hourglass)

going matrix on this shit

[personal profile] rassera 2015-08-09 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Kaneda was a damn good fighter back in Neo Tokyo. He didn't earn his right as king of the road by being a pushover. But new things meant having to adapt to them, and spears, and agile small children were two of those.

His feet pivot on his heel, and the moment he sees the butt of that spear heading towards him, his knees give a little, sending his upper body backward to dodge it, and only just barely.

JUST. BARELY.

His knees however, don't exactly give him much space to go from there, and he ends up falling on his back. Staring up.]

Whoa.
amadaman: ((p3) 116)

[a clever matrix joke here]

[personal profile] amadaman 2015-08-09 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
[If this were a real fight with a real enemy? That spear would have ended up between Kaneda's legs. But he isn't, so Ken lowers it a little and gives him a small grin.]

You're pretty fast, Kaneda-san. Here.

[He holds out his hand if Kaneda wants to take it to get up. Truce.]
rassera: (I'm honestly not sure)

[personal profile] rassera 2015-08-09 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Boy is he glad he made friends with the ten year old with the spear because between his legs is the EXACT PLACE HE DOESN'T WANT ANYTHING SHARP.

He stares at the sky for a moment, before taking him up on that hand.]

I don't know how that happened. It's like...my knees gave out at the last second.

[He looks at his hands.]

Kinda lucky, don'tcha think?

[In a way, he still fell, and lost. But he's onto something here. He knows it.]
amadaman: ((p3) 024)

[personal profile] amadaman 2015-08-09 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Ken stares at him while he says that and his eyes widen just a little.]

... A stroke of good luck. Is that it?

[If Kaneda went forward, Ken was going to pull the spear back. He'd only have to drop it and it would disappear into thin air. But they didn't have to.]

It'll keep you alive.
rassera: (I'm just saying-)

[personal profile] rassera 2015-08-09 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I think so.

[He leans back up on his elbows, looking at Ken a moment before smiling.]

Good luck, but still fell on my ass.

[With a hoist, he lifts himself up again, rolling his shoulders.]

Ready for round 2?
amadaman: ((p3) 064)

[personal profile] amadaman 2015-08-10 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
If you can get yourself to kick at me in that situation, you might have turned the tables on me.

[Ken steps back, letting go of his spear. It vanished like a hologram before it hits the ground, and he takes up the brush he left out instead. It's kind of ridiculous, but it's better for training.] Round two.
rassera: (Who knew we'd get so far?)

[personal profile] rassera 2015-08-10 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Good advice is good advice. But I think I've got this now.

[Or...he hopes. His personal pride revolves around it. He tosses the hair out of his eyes, readying his arms as he watches Ken make that spear disappear. Slight confusion drapes over his expression as he laxes, wondering if Ken had decided that was enough.

A brush.

There's a look at the brush, and then a look at him.]

...Alright. Let's see how lucky I can get!

[Yeah, it clicked, and he's not going to wait for Ken to ready. The guy's going to have to deal with all kinds of fighters, and scrappers are going to be no different.]
amadaman: ((p3) 043)

[personal profile] amadaman 2015-08-11 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Good. [Ken's moving before Kaneda even finishes. Peter Quill will at some point laugh that he's secretly mercenary, and he's honestly perfectly right. That, and Ken doesn't see the point in a training regime that doesn't simulate reality: in reality, no true opponent really waits for you to finish your speeches, and those that do? are the ones who're strong enough to win even with that aggravating handicap.

The end of the scrub brush is heavy, but Ken still swings it pretty fast, twisting the handle around in his hands as he aims a swipe right for Kaneda's side.]
rassera: (Kiss the ground)

[personal profile] rassera 2015-08-11 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[He was impressed. He'd expected Ken to keep with formalities of fighting--underestimating him once again. It reminded him of one of his own, honestly. And there's a moment of nostalgia for seeing his old crew again.

Or maybe he had it. But in a new form.

It doesn't last long--he's got to stick this if he wants to keep in this fight. But Kaneda's ready, seeing that swing come in from the side. His body pivots, back now facing the way the broom was being swung as he vaults over it, hand stretched out to try and grab it on his landing.

His fingers snag the broom handle on the opposite end, just as his legs come down, and pulls.]
amadaman: ((p3) 025)

[personal profile] amadaman 2015-08-11 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Shadows, usually, never pulled on Ken's weapons. They tended not to have hands and they didn't really have the same sort of intelligence or something. Ken doesn't try to resist it, though. He follows it instead, proceeding to kick the ground again and swing himself around. His grip on the broom handle works as an anchor point as he twists his body around, one heel of his sneaker'd feet aiming a kick at Kaneda's shoulder. ]
rassera: (This is the coolest thing)

[personal profile] rassera 2015-08-12 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Ken was a smart fighter. He was already better than most of the goons he'd beaten up back home.

The foot connects, feeling the kick into his shoulder and stumbling back, although not letting go of the broom for the life of him, instead, he twists it, hoping that the flow of motion was still going with Ken that he could pivot him around the pole and to the ground.]
amadaman: ((p3) 100)

[personal profile] amadaman 2015-08-13 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
[There are people who learn from formal training. There are people who're just naturally good at fighting -- maybe they're fast, large, strong, talented. Then there are people who're small and weak and have to learn from necessity. Ken's an underdog, so he had to claw his way up the food chain.

He learned early on that he just didn't have the strength to win a tug-of-war like this, so when Kaneda pulls again and twists the pole, Ken doesn't fight it. He lets his body be yanked through the air, focusing just on keeping control so that when he he's about to land he can kick his feet out, hoping to catch one of Kaneda's shins with the heel of his sneakers.]
