- [ On occasion, Peej does wish she had more days where she didn't have to be in the office. There's tension mounting on her end toward Norman Osborn and it irks her to no end that she's got absolutely nothing to show for it. A bad feeling and stories about him being an ex-supervillain does not prove a thing. She's stuck at the time being while trying to figure out what exactly happened and what she's been missing this whole time.
But she did have a meeting outside the office today, which means by the time she's done she doesn't need to head over. Instead, she dons her costume and goes for a quick fly around the city to clear her mind and soak up some sun.
She's a few meters above the crowd's heads at an intersection, ready to disappear somewhere into the sky when she hears an engine revving loudly not too far from her. The green light fades to yellow, but the hovercar doesn't slow down; it speeds up, trying to make the light before it's red. At the same time, a young man with long hair that nearly covers his eyes on a hoverboard drifts across the street, and a few people fretfully point out the car heading in his direction.
Peej pushes past a couple of people — including one that seems to be a familiar face, which distracts her momentarily. It's difficult to forget the pirate she met that one time, seeing as how he's the second pirate she's met in this world and the only pirate to actually be ocean-bound rather than space-bound. ]
Whoa, pirate guy? Oh, crap —
[ She grabs the young man by the collar and lifts him several feet above the zooming car, narrowly dodging the collision. There's a breath of relief among the crowd, Peej included. ]

he'd been eying the kid floating on a very stiff magic carpet with a chagrined expression and absolute lack of recognition he was about to get hit by a car — this was why Hook was very careful to follow the lights, he'd already tried that once and even with the gift of enhanced healing, he didn't want to try again — and then he's shoved distinctly out of the way. pirate guy? he's dressed in his normal guy outfit, how she knows he's a pirate just from a leather coat and guyliner he has no idea. )
I beg your pardon—
( she likely doesn't have time to listen, as she zips past and saves the boy from turning into a broken mangle of bones. nice of her, and. . . gods, she's flying, without a strange magic carpet to boot. the crowd gives a relieved gasp and there's even a few people that clap, how bloody strange, and he just is left to stare uncertainly.
sometimes this place seems like a dream he hasn't quite woken from yet.
he waits until she deals with her thankful teenager before he ventures a bit closer, curiosity overpowering his uncertainty. curiosity wasn't as deadly to pirates as it was to cats. ) Sorry, did you call me 'pirate guy'?
( she did. there's no escaping it. it's more of a why did you call me 'pirate guy'. )
no subject
Gently she lets down the young man, though her expression doesn't soften yet. As he reaches for his hoverboard, she puts a hand on her hip and gestures to the light which indicates pedestrians are not supposed to be crossing until the signal lights up. He mumbles an apology and scrambles off and Peej drags a hand down her face, though ultimately relieved nobody's been hurt in the process.
Then she floats back over to where Hook stands on the sidewalk, rubbing the back of her head sheepishly. ]
... okay, yeah, I did. On second thought, 'pirate guy' is probably something you're tired of hearing.
[ Suddenly, she rears back her head and shakes it, realizing his utter confusion can only mean one thing. ]
Hang on a second — you don't recognize me, huh?
[ Either she's outed herself as the woman he met at the Swear-In that one time, or he actually doesn't remember her. She's banking on the latter, as this would be a highly embarrassing way to blow her secret identity. ]
no subject
he's not dressed as his usual pirate self, which means she must have met him when he was. does this entire place already know him as Captain Hook? )
Can't say that I do. I am told that happens around here. I think I'd remember someone like you, love. ( quite an outfit. not what he'd chose to fight crime, but hey, if it works! )
no subject
Yeah, that happens here a lot. Porter will mess with memories.
[ She doesn't mean to sound so blasé about the subject; the truth is, that part of the Porter unnerves her in ways she won't admit aloud. ]
Power Girl. And you're... Captain Hook.
no subject
Right, well, I wish I knew what I've apparently been up to.
( if he's already come and gone, maybe he found a way to escape previously. not likely, perhaps, he still has to hope, right? that he can get out.
he frowns when she says his proper moniker; he's been avoiding giving it out, but apparently some other version of himself dropped the bomb already. ) In spirit, anyway. ( he raises both palms, because thanks to his new abilities? he has both of his hands. ) How on earth did we meet. . .ah, Power Girl?
( that was a ridiculous name, sorry. and that was coming from Captain Hook. )
no subject
... around. ImPorts have a way of running into one another. [ She raises her hand, gesturing to his own. ] Did you always have two hands? Soo... are we supposed to call you 'Hook' still or...?
[ Hey, the hook could have been purely decorative. ]
no subject
No, that was a part of the blasted abilities they gave me on arrival. ( not so great at keeping his powers secret yet, this guy. ) Killian Jones would be my name, you might try that.
( he was a little lost as to why captain hook had come out to begin with, but he doubted she would know that. )
no subject
[ She pauses, glancing around to see some of the locals hanging around still. They lower their phones as if to say they aren't doing anything, and while it may be harmless, it's starting to make for an impersonal conversation. She makes a shooing motion with her hands and then jabs her thumb in the opposite direction. ]
Where you headed? I'll walk with you. I know it's overwhelmingly confusing when you've just arrived and found out you were here before.
I can't tell you what you did, though. Sorry.
no subject
( he has already gotten his hand back once, and now it was a reminder of the moment he'd basically thrown everything he had away for the absolutely wrong thing. now it had grown back with powers he didn't ask for, in a place he really didn't want to be. he wasn't as grateful as he should be, considering it had saved his life.
where was he going? well, the honest truth: )
Just on roundabout, darling.
( he'd been in the hospital long enough, now all he wanted was to be outdoors. he didn't necessarily have a goal in mind. )
You and the rest of this place, it seems. ( he's not holding it against her, it's just frustrating. ) If you'd like to direct me to a place to buy supplies, that'd be appreciated.
no subject
[ She doesn't mind obliging him, in spite of the odd looks. She can sympathize with his confusion, having been tossed from one universe to another, sometimes while not knowing who she was supposed to be or what she was supposed to be doing. People like Peej and Hook aren't equipped for voyages across the multiverse, which makes it all the more overwhelming. ]
What kind of supplies?
[ The streetlight finally turns green and the signal allowing pedestrians to walk lights up. She doesn't take off into the air, staying grounded for the time being. ]
no subject
Food, mostly. Rum would be pleasant. ( the pirate is used to open markets, not grocery stores. he never had to try one in Storybrooke, but he's got a little money and he does need to eat on occasion. getting himself something to survive on is a bit of a priority now that he's not eating terrible hospital food. ) So, the flying; did the porter business give you that? ( he's curious about powers, getting abilities upon arrival was very strange to him. )
no subject
She chuckles at Hook's request. ]
Rum... naturally. [ She should not be surprised. ] There are liquor stores for that. For food, you might want to hit up the grocery store.
[ She cocks a brow then. ]
Oh, that? I was born with those powers. I didn't get them here.
no subject
no, the pirate wanting rum probably isn't a big surprise. ) The grocery store first, then. ( said almost begrudgingly, damn his body for needing food more than alcohol and. . .
he eyes her slightly at the confession the powers hadn't been a porter gift. that just makes him think magic and well, he's not necessarily trusting of magic that doesn't come from Emma. ) You're from a world with magic, then.
no subject
Magic exists on the Earth I'm from, but me? I'm not magic.
[ She's also particularly fond of magic as it's one of her few weaknesses, albeit one that can do serious harm to her. She much prefers to have magic on her side, not face it. Ever. ]
My powers stem from biology. To keep it simple: I'm not human.
no subject
Yeah? ( he looks at her closer, eyes narrowed. ) Well you don't look of the fae. ( he knew faeries pretty well, actually; she didn't seem like a secret sister of Tinker Bell. ) What manner are you, then?
no subject
[ There's no judgmental inflection; she's genuinely curious to know if he's familiar at all with the concept of other worlds, or the multiverse. She's been around the universe more than she ever wanted and it's still a lot to take in. A lot of it is still a mystery to her. ]
I'm Kryptonian — an alien.
no subject
( he knows of other worlds, yes, but he had no idea that the stars were something that could actually be traveled. that out there there were planets with different civilizations on them. he appreciated the sky but he didn't quite realize the implications of it. )
An alien, is it? I'm not sure I've heard of those before. ( he's not judgmental about it, though; he's met all manner of individuals, really. an alien isn't a bad thing to be, he has to assume. )
no subject
[ Good to know she isn't shattering anyone's expectations of little green men with eyes too big for their heads.
The chattering around them seems to die down a little as they make their way down the street. Not for long — people eventually shake their heads, determine they did see a costumed heroine walking past them like the average pedestrian, and carry onward with their day. Sometimes not before snapping a quick photo on their phone. ]
Flying — among other things — is just an ability I've always had as long as I'm under the yellow sun.
no subject
he might be taking this too seriously. )
no subject
I mean... its presence.
[ She could bring up the red sun and Krypton, but the fact is, she doesn't have any memories of her planet. Not too long after her birth it exploded, with her being one of the sole survivors, whisked to earth in search of family.
It stings sometimes, not to have those memories, but she's grown past a lot of disappointment. ]
As long as it's there, I can do things like this. [ She floats two feet off the ground, steady and yet light at the same time. Then she comes back down to the sidewalk. ] And other things. It's a long list.
no subject
( it's interesting to imagine different beings, what makes them tick. he's met ogres and faeries and trolls and mermaids, and yet he still manages to find more unique beings he's never met before. it used to be fascinating, to compare and contrast all the worlds he'd been in.
it has been a long time since he really thought about it... but even with the discomfort and uncertainty of being in this new place, he's honest when he notes with a bit of wonder in his tone: ] Fascinating.
I take it you're taking that hero bit very strongly, aren't you? ( even at his best, Killian Jones is really not a hero. it just so happens he's made a place himself on the heroic side. nobody would call him one of them, though. )
no subject
I've been doing this a long time and before I ever arrived here.
[ She might not have wanted to be exactly like her cousin, Superman, but she aspired to do good like he did. With all these powers at her disposal and a world in constant need of assistance and protection, she feels obligated to do something. From the time she arrived on earth, all she wanted to do was the right thing. ]
And by the government's definition, I'm not taking it "strongly" enough if I'm not Registered.
no subject
( he's a bit surprised that she's taken the same route as he, eschewing registering despite the conveniences it offers. he knows that the majority register, and his reasons for not doing so are his own, yet he can't help but wonder why she hasn't done it.
it's really none of his business, but if he imagined she'd tell him then he probably would have asked. )
no subject
Never really had to. People like me are a dime a dozen back home. The government doesn't go out of its way like it does here.
no subject
( especially with powers handed off at random upon arrival, it seemed in the governments best interest to keep their heroes pacified and pleased. Hook wasn't buying it, he had little faith in their positive intentions. they wanted something, and he wasn't signing any dotted line until he knew what they were after.
and likely, not even then. )
Have you been trapped here long?
( honestly the maddest part of this place is how many people are trapped with such unbelievable abilities, magic and otherwise, and yet no progress had been made in returning to where they belonged. )
no subject
[ That's a possibility and for all she knows, the lack of an apparent system could be keeping them distracted from what might be going on really: being spied on. They did track her in outer space when she was out there for what, half a minute? It was creepy.
And governments have always been good at keeping secrets. Who knows how much information they've been gathering on them? ]
Since mid-January. That's when the first group arrived.
no subject
( it doesn't seem as if it's been happening for too terribly long, but still, it's longer than he'd like to be stuck in this place all the same. not, of course, that he has a choice. without being here, he won't be anywhere, really.
but one problem at a time. )
It's unbelievable how many of us there are, and nobody has sorted a way home.
no subject
Historically we're the second, but the other group went home some years before we arrived. It's a long story, but when the group in January arrived, the Porter from the world we were stuck in came along.
She did something to this Porter, which is why they can't control who goes or leaves.
no subject
( he wasn't expecting to get this much information out a relative stranger, but it was appreciated all the same. to get out, or at least, to get Emma a way out, he was going to have to make sense of the strange place they were stuck in. all the information he could get was helpful, though he had to remember it might be inaccurate, coming from word of mouth instead of the source. )
no subject
[ She quickly checks up and down the street, trying to remember which way the grocery store is before it comes back to her. She points left, beckoning him to follow. ]
Her name's Lachesis. There's a lot of talk about her being in the Porter, but I don't know anymore. I've heard she wasn't talkative back in the City, which is where the the group of imPorts I came with were stuck in prior to being brought here. Still... we don't have any confirmation she's in the Porter or not.
[ A deep breath. ]
As for Lachesis herself, she's one of the Fates from Greek mythology. An all-powerful being of sorts.
no subject
( the mythology in the enchanted forest was different than ones found in other worlds. it was still something to go on, though. researching this Fate, trying to look into the porter, it might offer him some answers. or not... but it'd be something to do. )
Suppose it's worth exploring a bit, anyway. If I want to find a way out. ( he spots a location not too far from them, clearly labeled as the grocery they'd been heading for. ) That's her, isn't it?
no subject
[ A worn out sign in dire need of replacing indicates the grocery store they've been looking for. People exit the automatic doors with carts full of plastic bags, wheeling them straight into the parking lot beside the store.
One of the customers stares at both Hook and Peej, watching them turn toward the store's entrance before he realizes his cart is getting away from him. ]
Mythology isn't my area of expertise, but I do understand she's pretty powerful. She brought us here, after all.
[ It's possible she may not have the power to return them or she chooses not to.
This is why Peej dislikes dealing with anything cosmic or god-related. They aren't problems that are easily resolved by whooping their asses once.
She steps toward the entrance, the doors sliding open automatically and a cool wind brushing past their faces as they find themselves within a busy and noisy store. Watch out for the kids running around and the parents chiding them to stay still and stop touching everything. ]
no subject
( he really had no idea, but it gave him at least a little bit to go on research wise. he couldn't really say anything with certainty until he looked into it.
the indoor market was a bit overwhelming. Hook even blinked a little bit at the flash of bold bright lights. )
You don't have to mind me as I shop, you know. ( he has to figure she has better things to do than escort a pirate and well... a part of him doesn't care for exploring modern things with people next to him. he feels a bit moronic in all he doesn't know, he'd rather do it on his own. )
and then i finally started catching up on ouat S4
[ Who knows if this is another short trip with some kind of goal Lachesis needs completed. ]
It would be kind of fun, but I'll leave you to the joys of browsing. Just remember the stuff you pick up needs to be paid for at the cash.
[ She points to the registers with long lines of people and their carts, waiting rather impatiently for the cashier to get to them. ]
lol you poor thing. sometimes I wish I could un-catch up
I'll manage. I appreciate the guidance.
i can see why oh lord. i'm offended on behalf of so many characters and their terrible arcs.
[ She waves her hand and turns back around to exit the store. ]
