[So, sometime during the last week, you might have seen a transmission go up on the Network. It opens with Darin's face, close up to the camera. He appears oddly subdued.]

So, here's the thing. The last...let's saaaaay month and a half? Yeah, month and a half sounds about right...

So, the last month and a half? Not been great for people. I've seen it. I'm sure you all have seen it. Even a guy like me is starting to feel it in the air, you know? We're all just tired of weird and terrible things happening.

So, I have a proposal for you.

This weekend. The beaches of Heropa. It's time for a mini vacation. I'm talking fun in the sun, swimming, relaxation on the beach, and all of the delicious food you can eat, courtesy of...

[At this point, Darin dons a pair of radical wrap-around shades and backs away from the camera to show a massive custom built grill.]

[He fingerguns at the camera.]

...Yours truly.

That's right, all the food you can eat, on the house, paid for by me, Darin Altway. We've got hot dogs, we've got burgers, we've got steaks, we've got veggies, we've got fruits. I'll be manning the grill personally! All imPorts and civilians are welcome! Bring your hottest swimsuits, some frisbees and volleyballs, anything you want, and lets all just take a day and freakin' relax!

And if you don't think you need a day at the beach, I'm calling you out. You do. I better see you there!!

[And sure enough, this weekend, the beach is open and ready for all kinds of imPort shenanigans!]

Fun in the Sun

Nightfall looks up to him, eyes practically sparkling even though she has a domino mask on. "It really is a great day for this. It's warm, but not too warm. And it's really bright and happy out!"

She's a little caught up in all the fun she's having, but her Handler Approved vocabulary continues to persist.

Darin laughs and puts his hands on his hips proudly.

"I'm really glad I managed to organize this in such a short time then! I'm glad to see you're having such a great time! Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen you around before. You new?"

"That's really impressive!" She then gives him a lively nod. "I am! The porter brought me here in the middle of May or so."

"Well, allow me to introduce myself, then! The name's Darin Altway, grillmaster and Master Blacksmith! I gotta say, I like the mask look!"

[nightfallallegro]

She gives him a bright smile at the compliment. "Thank you! It's important to keeping my civilian identity a secret. I'm Nightfall. Back home I'm a junior hero."

Maybe, just maybe, she was so caught up in having fun that her bubbliness was completely genuine.

(It absolutely was. And Darin's own energy was certainly helping in that area!)

"A junior hero? You come from a world where being a hero is a career choice too? My old apprentice came from a world like that! What does it mean to be a 'junior hero' in your world?"

Nightfall's back straightens with pride. "In my world junior heroes are heroes in training. By the time we're revealed to the public we're ready for field work, but it's on a trainee basis. The senior heroes still do all of the most dangerous things." That was a lie. "We mostly take care of lesser villains and street thugs." Another lie. "And if there is any serious danger we call in the senior heroes." Not technically a lie, but usually by the time the senior heroes were allowed to be called the chances of someone in the team dying were in the 'at least two shattered corpses on the field' range. "In serious emergencies we're often called in to help with evacuations and be backup support for the senior heroes."

All throughout this she kept up a chirpy, happy tone. Just as she'd been taught, she didn't let it slip at all that the work was a lot more dangerous than the spiel implied.
