[So, sometime during the last week, you might have seen a transmission go up on the Network. It opens with Darin's face, close up to the camera. He appears oddly subdued.]
So, here's the thing. The last...let's saaaaay month and a half? Yeah, month and a half sounds about right...
So, the last month and a half? Not been great for people. I've seen it. I'm sure you all have seen it. Even a guy like me is starting to feel it in the air, you know? We're all just tired of weird and terrible things happening.
So, I have a proposal for you.
This weekend. The beaches of Heropa. It's time for a mini vacation. I'm talking fun in the sun, swimming, relaxation on the beach, and all of the delicious food you can eat, courtesy of...
[At this point, Darin dons a pair of radical wrap-around shades and backs away from the camera to show a massive custom built grill.]

That's right, all the food you can eat, on the house, paid for by me, Darin Altway. We've got hot dogs, we've got burgers, we've got steaks, we've got veggies, we've got fruits. I'll be manning the grill personally! All imPorts and civilians are welcome! Bring your hottest swimsuits, some frisbees and volleyballs, anything you want, and lets all just take a day and freakin' relax!
And if you don't think you need a day at the beach, I'm calling you out. You do. I better see you there!!

[Darin was not joking when he said he was paying for all of the food. The spread is pretty impressive. There's all kinds of meat being grilled up and, in the off-chance you're a vegetarian, he's got tofu, veggie burgers, and all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables. Ever had grilled watermelon? Neither has he! But he'll damn well try it. After all, he did build this massive three tiered grill that looks more like a massive pipe organ than anything used for cooking. But the grill is hot and he's dual wielding spatulas with those wrap around shades, a tank top that says "Tempered By the Gods", and a pair of black swim trunks with flames on them.]
Alright! Come on! Who's hungry? Who's next! Let's eat up people, we've got plenty of food to go through!
Fun in the Sun
[He's finally taking a break from the grill to get and mingle with attendees. Need someone else for volleyball? Count him in! Or how about someone to toss a frisbee with? He promises not to pitch it into the ocean! Right now, he's meandering around with a bottle of water, getting some face time in with anyone who doesn't look too busy.]

It Wouldn't Be Summer Without Fireworks
[Of course, there was one other little thing that Darin had planned that he hadn't advertised. As soon as the sun starts to go down, and when it looks like people might be leaving, Darin puts the final step to his plan in motion. But he needs some help. You see he's got this truckload of fireworks that he can't possibly set off himself. But he's got to get them going before people start to leave!]

[despite the personal problems archie and darin are having at the moment, he can't deny that the guy is right about a beach day being sorely needed and something that would dearly help people.
he's not biased or anything. no. not aqua leader archie being biased in favour of water raising people's spirits, oh no!
when he shows up, he spends part of the time just hanging out on the sand a little way from the main crowd, his mightyena laying next to him with its head on his stomach. he has a pair of neon pink shutter shades on-- though while he's laying there like a lazy crocodile, it's hard to tell if he's asleep or not.
anyone unlucky enough to see him standing will note that the ass off his shorts say "team aqua propaganda" across them. best not to think about that, honestly.]

So here she is. On the beach. A place with lots and lots of water. Which she will absolutely not be going near, instead hanging back toward the far side of the sandy landscape.
At least the sun is shining, which Catra enjoys greatly, as much as it does not mesh with her general aesthetic. She likes the warmth, okay?

Being an alien who doesn't really know anything about Earth, Kurt had to look up what a swimsuit is, like the invitation message mentioned, and then go out and buy one. The shorts he picked out have a rather gaudy design on them, like colorful paint splats. He's not wearing his skin suit, since he doesn't want the extra layer between his scales and the sun's rays. Not like he can get sunburned either way.
Like at the lake, he lays down on a beach towel to sun, having taken off his shirt, which is laying nearby. He's also wearing sunglasses.
He'll probably complain if you block his sun.]

[ Wearing a white T-shirt and swim trunks with little gold yen coins on them, Yato couldn't be happier to put the recent events past behind him and take a day to relax. Darin's good to his word at loading him up with a plateful piled high with food, certainly more than any normal person could eat, but Yato looks determined to get through the whole of it. In fact, he's eyeing something on a nearby plate you might be holding. ]
Hey, are you going to eat that?
BEACH
[ After he's eaten -- and waited his obligatory 20 minutes before swimming -- Yato happily dives into the water with the enthusiasm of a rambunctious child. Splashing about in the water like a happy kid, swimming with a snorkel and popping up from the water every time he finds something cool on the sandy ocean floor. ]
Wow, look at this conch shell!
FIREWORKS
[ By the time the fireworks roll around though, Yato's exuberance seems to have either exhausted itself, or... perhaps something else. Sitting on a small hill to watch the fireworks, his blue eyes look a lot farther away than the explosions of light and colour just above them. It might take a moment to get his attention. ]
Hm? Oh sorry... what'd you say?

[He spots Yato showing off this wicked conch shell to some passerby and immediately gets an idea.]
[He dives deep, then starts swimming up underneath Yato.]

[With an eruption of water, Darin seizes Yato and holds him above his head, roaring as he surfaces.]

[Abigail is wearing a pink swimsuit, that covers the scars on her neck. She also has a wide-brimmed hat to help keep the sun off her face, flip flops and dark sunglasses.  She takes a bottle of sunscreen from her beach bag and begins applying another layer.  She's very fair skinned and can't be too careful.  When she's done, she glances around.]

Later in the day, Abigail uses her dark sunglasses to people watch.  Frisbee, volleyball, swimming, it's all so wonderfully normal and fun.  This is what life is supposed to be like.  No scary dreams or monsters.  When notices someone looking back at her, she gives them a smile.

Like any lizard, Jonathan loves to soak up the sun's rays, so naturally he can be found sunbathing in a lounge chair. Less natural is the garish, bright orange shade of the swim trunks he's wearing, with a blue lizard pattern printed on them that stands out sharply against his green scales. He has a book on alien conspiracy theories that he's half reading, half using to shield his eyes, occasionally taking his attention away from the book to take a sip of the icy lemonade he has resting in the portable cup holder he's clipped to the lawn chair's side.

Once he gets bored of reading and laying around, Jonathan decides to go for a swim, easily cutting through the water, diving down to see what's down there, fascinated by everything he sees until he has to hurry up and get to the surface for air. He's a pretty strong swimmer, though, and doesn't seem to have much difficulty getting around in the water regardless of tides.

Finn Onaru | OTA
Finn likes the beach. It reminds him of home, since his home town was close to a beach. Except there's less ash. He shows up wearing a t-shirt, and swim trunks with bright neon colors, like they were designed by someone on a retro 80s kick. After that harrowing adventure at the lake, one would think he'd be reluctant to go near the water, but this is a different body of water.
Finn claims a beach chair under an umbrella, and starts drawing. Nothing in particular, just a doodle of a seagull, and a slaughterfish.

Later, Finn decides to go for a swim. He does a few lazy backstrokes, letting himself just float and cool off, the sun blazing down on his wet body.
He soon dives down to swim about underwater. Times like this he wishes he knew the Breath Water spell, or had his ring that was enchanted with such a spell. Spying something under the water, he scoops it up and swims back up to the surface.
Sifting through the sand, he beams. "Oh hey, a pearl!"

No, no one says "shrimp on the barbie" - we call them prawns.
[She'll join in on beach volleyball, goes swimming, and at one point optimistically manifests a cricket bat and ball from photos online, dragging over a couple of beach chairs to serve as wickets.]
Anyone here know how to play cricket?
[Occasionally she can also be found taking photos with her phone, fussing with them before posting them to her Instagamma Ray - one is of the beach with everyone on it, but with the water in focus and the people blurred; later on she posts a small photo set of the fireworks.

This was recon, she told herself. Recon and making herself more visible among the community. That said, without a guide or handler telling her what activity to do first she didn't know where to start. All the interviews and photo shoots that she'd done on the beach with her teammates had been planned out before they even got there.
Presented with all the choices in front of her, she couldn't figure out which one had the best optics. She hadn't been trained for how to handle a situation where she was among so many super heroes. She was so overwhelmed she almost didn't notice someone come to stand beside her. Almost.
She looked up to the newcomer and gave them a big smile. "Oh! Hello! There's so much to do, isn't there?"
In the water.
After some time she eventually makes her way into the water, leaving her waist wrap on the beach. It had always struck her as very silly that the handlers had insisted a beach wrap over a swimsuit that wasn't all that different from her uniform - just with added skirt-like frills covering the bottom third instead of an actual skirt, see-through as it was - was required for modesty's sake, so she'd created it.
Now she was swimming about, occasionally diving and touching the sand below. Every so often she'd see how long she was under the water. Naturally, this, too, was training. Absolutely. Not at all was it a thing done simply for the fun of it. (It was, but she'd never admit it to herself.)
After a particularly long moment under water she comes up for air, and in the process bumps into someone.
"I'm sorry!" She replies without a second thought.
Volleyball
Yep, this was training. Agility training, to be precise. She certainly wasn't doing this just because it was a ton of fun. Though, it really was a ton of fun.
Nightfall was on her third round, having long since forgotten how she'd 'lost' her beach wrap. (She would have to be a little more careful with items created by her new power. She couldn't just leave them and expect them to not cease to exist.) She wasn't even starting to look worn down, and while she was short her ability to jump and make quick work of the ground made her pretty useful.
After another member of the team makes a hit, and with it, earns them a point, the game is over. Nightfall runs over to the person and with the biggest smile speaks. "That was a really good shot!"

Princess Allura | OTA
It's always fun for aliens to get dressed up in Earth fashion, isn't it? So, naturally, Allura's out with a sky blue sundress and a hat with the widest, floppiest brim she could find. It's very light and breezy, and her skirt is fluttering everywhere in the sweet breeze of the early summer.
But eventually, when the heat from the sun — bolstered by all the heat radiating off Darin's enormous grill — is too much to bear, she pulls the dress off over the top of her head, revealing a bikini patterned with bright pink flowers. It's the first time she's ever shown this much skin in public, and in particular the first time she's shown her midriff — so perhaps it's a surprise to some of the other imPorts that she has some tight core muscles. Clearly, the princess keeps up with her crunches.
As to where you'll find her? She might be keen to throw the frisbee around, or some other game if you're willing to invite her. But she's also perfectly content to set up a towel and bask in the warm sun, watching the rest of you from behind a pair of oversized sunglasses.
In the Water
This is what swimsuits are really for, right? Why else would they be called that?
Allura dives into the surf almost recklessly, undeterred by the cold bite of the ocean compared to the blazing hot sand of the beach. She even dunks her head underneath, surfacing with her cloud of white hair flattened and pulled straight by the weight of the water.
It's after she's spent some time horsing around in the waves with other imPorts that she suddenly stands, watching some of the civilians further up the beach. A few of them have brought out surfboards, and are riding the small crests.
"I wonder if we have any of those?" she muses aloud, easily overheard.
As the Sun Goes Down
"I don't suppose you're still hungry? Because I think I found a nice spot for a bonfire..."
As you turn, you'll see Allura — hair tied up, and towel lazily tied around her waist like a sarong, holding a bag of marshmallows and some toasting sticks. And on her shoulders, there are her mice, each one holding a marshmallow — but aren't they too small to each hold a stick?
