FANPORT JUNE 2017
WHERE:Nonah Convention Center
WHEN: June 23-25, from 9 AM - 12 AM every day.
WHAT: Registration is in motion alongside FanPort, the most popular imPort convention around! Come on in and see imPort-led panels, the artist's alley, cosplayers, and more! If you have any questions, or wish to amend the way we have written up your characters' panels, let us know here!
WARNINGS: None anticipated; please let us know if this should be changed.
Locals, imPorts, come one and all to FanPort, the annual gathering of imPorts and imPort enthusiasts! Registration volunteers are wrangling the long, long lines wrapping outside the convention center, but attendees are passing the time by competing in a contest sponsored by a local radion station: to create the best imPort-themed viral video clip and post it to social media! #PowersPower #Fandemonium #FanPortVIP
Unless they choose to mingle, as guests of honor, imPorts get to skip the line, receive a gold-trimmed IMPORTANT badge and be escorted through a secure entrance into the convention center proper. But there's no escaping the crowds once they're inside, you will be rubbing shoulders. This year's FanPort is seeing record attendance, and the venue is swarming with enthusiastic con-goers. Once they make their way past an impromptu welcoming committee of squealing fans, imPorts can explore...
ARTIST'S ALLEY
The bustling ballroom is full to brimming of fans selling their creative wares. Hundreds of prints are available for purchase, featuring everything from Magnus Burnsides striking a heroic pose to an artful portrait of Dandy Mott in his study, with his tie unknotted and dribbling down his front. There's even an action crossover depicting the Blue Beetle versus Iron Man, or Jesse Pinkman dancing with Reggie Mantle. Crossover time!
Other tables feature 3-D creations, with maskets full of keychains, buttons, T-shirts, homemade plushies and more. If you can dream of it, it probably exists, and it would be a challenge to name an imPort without some kind of creative representation!
Some artists and fanfiction writers have teamed up to create doujinshi about various imPort couples. imPorts who are known to be seeing each other are likely to see a drawn version of their relationship in this section, but there are also true rarepairs that go against canon, like Lapis Lazuli/Shale, Frederick Chilton/Sam Merlotte, Kitty Jones/John Murphy, Danny Pink/Mitchell Hundred, Jessica Jones/Laurie Collins, Han Solo/Luke Skywalker, Count Dooku/Archie and Rusty Venture/Sadie Doyle. And some of these books are sultry! Outright SHOCKING. You really must buy a few, if only as gifts.
If you don't see what you want being sold already, there are plenty of commissioners who would leap at the chance to provide an imPort with a custom print or doll, just for them! Although some of the dolls getting in the way of the big, popular ships may just be used as voodoo dolls, so watch out!
COSPLAY CONTEST
What's a fan convention without cosplay? There's not a single room in the convention center that lacks multiple cosplayers, but many of them are in it to win it at the cosplay contest. Some have gone to store after store to buy just the right street clothes to accurately portray imPorts like Daryl Dixon and April Ludgate, but others are up for a challenge and are showing off incredible armor creation or sewing work with their Riptide, Maeve Millay, Jean Grey, Petyr Baelish, Doreen Green, and Kanaya Maryam costumes.
And what of imPorts who want to join in? There are only two rules: imPorts may not enter as themselves, nice try jerks, and nor are they allowed to use shapeshifting powers. Other than that, they're welcome to join in on the competitions and the festivities! There are awards being given for everything from Best Performer to Best Costume to Most Accurate Posing, so jump in, and enjoy! ImPorts ARE free to give their own input (or imPut! Haha! So funny!)
IMPORT HALL
Aside from the panels, this is where imports are welcomed as special guests! Above the entire affair is a huge sign that reads, cheerfully: "WELCOME IMPORTS!". Here, imPorts are welcomed to set up their own booths to sell their goods, autographs, and pictures, advertise their businesses, or to simply meet some of their fans! A special photo-op booth is available for imPorts who are game for one-on-one meetings but don't want to set up a booth. Security is tightest around this area, but only for the safety of imPorts; if any fans get a little too touchy-feely without the imPort's consent, rest assured, they'll be hauled out in short notice. There is also a special demonstration area, marked off with cones, where imPorts may show off crowd-appropriate powers for some oohs and aahs.
This is also the place where willing and participating imPorts are showered with special gifts featuring everything from fanmade scrapbooks of their public exploits and fanart, home baked goods, or samples from all sorts of corporate representatives eager to have imPorts represent everything from their makeup lines to their gas-buster pills.
REFRESHMENTS
Forget the generic, slightly stale burgers and fries most commonly found at convention centers. Just outside the venue is a series of imPort-inspired food trucks and stalls. Ready for some Persephone Paprikash? What about some Emmett Brown-ies for dessert? Delicious! And we can't forget the line of So Carbonated They'll Make You
DESIGN-YOUR-OWN POWER STATION
This year's FanPort has a special charity room for imPorts who feel like doing some community outreach. Long-term patients at Nonah Children's Hospital who are well enough to travel have been brought to the con, where imPorts who sign up to volunteer will help them dream up their own powers, design their own superhero costume and dress up using a wardrobe of donated costume parts. Each child can then pose in front of a green screen with their favorite imPort to create a superhero team-up!
RAVE
The first two nights of the convention, attendees can get their groove on after hours! The grand hall is opened up to various imPort inspired acts, such as the Woden-inspired Welcome to Valhalla, the Yurio Plisetsky-inspired Ice Ice Babies, and the Stark family-inspired Kings of the North. All of these shows are complete with light shows and complimentary glow sticks, and once the clock hits past 9 PM, a bar opens up in the back for natives and imPorts alike, provided that they're of-age — and yes, they will be checking their IDs!
Want to get your rock on? These acts will gracefully step aside to allow imPort musicians to take the stage, but will respond even more happily to jam sessions.

An episode screening and Q&A panel with the teen stars of ETV's edgy reality hit, which reviewers have alternately described as "a cinéma vérité glimpse into the lives of troubled imPort youths and the emotional complications of confronting alternate realities" and "basically just two assholes who look alike pranking each other for a half hour every week." Witness the controversial duo in person and decide for yourself! A memorabilia-signing session will follow. Starring imPort Guests: Ronan Lynch and John Murphy

He explicitly explores the manifestation of dissociation, maladaptation, codependency upon other imPorts, and the rare case of expressed criminal psychopathy. His presentation includes statistical data as well as anecdota, using Dorian Gray as an example of codependency with fatal but ultimately beneficial outcomes. Hear about all of that and more, including a touching dedication to Lucy Pevensie. Starring imPort guest: Jon Snow
Re: 2
Hopefully no telepaths were around.
"I predate Lachesis, actually. Well, in a way- she had popped up while I was still there, but we still hardly knew anything about her... Just that it had been her pulling the strings all along, and that she wanted to be amused by us. More or less. Oh, and she liked chess metaphors." He grins to himself, almost nostalgic.
"I've heard what happened in the end, but I don't know about any of the details apart from what Miss Kanaya and Stark told me. Gotta say I'm pretty curious too, about where she's gone."
He tilts his head thoughtfully, smirk deepening. "Anyone ever mentioned to you who it was that ran The City before Lachesis showed herself?"
Re: 2
Though he also wonders now, briefly, what Lachesis was thinking. He had assumed the porter technology was a fluke, or perhaps a solution cooked up to solve a bigger problem-- he hadn't expected it to be because Lachesis wanted to keep them as playthings.
And then... why hasn't the government reverse engineered it...?
Re: 2
Duo rubs his chin. "At the beginning of everything in The City, there was Stark Tower, which held the Porter and an underground prison for imPorts, and the MAC's, a housing project for imPorts. The MAC rooms were usually quickly discarded on arrival if one could help it, on account of security cameras everywhere in them. That prison was used once as far as I know- to hold that Teddy guy I mentioned, your grandson-in-law. The suit would greet people when they got ported in, but we never saw it outside of that, even though it told us we'd been brought to The City to serve as temporary police force for that place, since their police had completely disappeared without a trace."
"No explanations as to why the Porter existed, where they'd all gone... nothing. It was fishy right away, with the suit insisting we act as heroes and yet never showing itself to aid in the effort. And no home-grown villains that we could see... Well, not at first, anyway." His mouth turns to a frown. He never did find out whether the HIVE's denizens had been imPorts or not.
Re: 2
Anyway.
"A rogue piece of tech he couldn't control," he states, deadpan but on the inside he's skeptical. It's something he would have written himself.
Re: 2
And Duo was maybe not the guy to cast stones about judgment, sure, but it was Stark's ego that really rankled him about it. "Well, that's between the people of your worlds, I guess."
"That Iron Bot met its end when Lachesis decided to publicly announce herself by speaking through it like a remote-controlled doll and then blow it up over Times Square. That's when we met her for the first time."
Re: 2
Though... if Tony lost control of the Iron man to Lachesis, it makes him wonder why he's not doing more to stop Lachesis now. Erik hasn't heard a peep from him about her, though of course he knows Tony's been keeping him at arm's length.
It may be time to do a little digging...
Re: 2
"...Thinking about the timing, though, it may have been incited by increasing transgressions from a group of villains in another city- ever heard of the HIVE? It was a base of unsavory operations on the west coast of the country. Stark tells me it got nuked off the map sometime after I left."
Re: 2
Re: 2
He twists his mouth into a frown as an unpleasant memory bubbles up. "There was ... a call for a preemptive strike on them from certain parties in The City. And there was an offensive, but it wasn't really successful. Anyway, it was just a cover for some twisted nutcase to get his jollies, so of course it wasn't going to be successful from the start." Duo mutters something under his breath. Nazis, man.
Re: 2
And then. Wait. "There were... nazis?" he asks, raising a brow. Like, real ones from the 1940s in the way that there were knights templar a couple months ago...? Or....?
He thinks maybe things were uh. Crazier back then.
Re: 2
He looks a little surprised by Erik's interest, cocking his head, then shrugs his shoulders. "Yeah, this... Christ, cyborg Nazi nutcase tried to start a full-scale war with the HIVE, on behalf of The City's imPorts. We found out that he was selling weapons technology, including some similar to our own, to certain hawkish military powers of the world in order to exacerbate the situation, and eventually took him down." Duo tilts his head. "...Why, familiar to someone you know?"
Re: 2
And apparently he can't trust Tony, his other choice for this adventure.
But um
"Does your cyborg Nazi have a name?" and also is he really a nazi, like what part of him was Nazi-ish or is Duo using the term liberally...? Not that Erik really wants to ask "ok but not getting the part where he's a nazi, just an arms dealer."
Re: 2
But it was a good offer. "Alright." He agrees, head tilting with a small, sly smile. "Just let me know when. I'll be your personal tour guide... if there's anything left where I remember it."
The question, on the other hand, gets an exasperated expression, a little curious. "It wasn't really a name, it was... a rank, I think." He pauses a long moment, thinking, trying to clear the cobwebs of his memory. "...General? No, that wasn't it.... Anyway, the parts where he was definitely a Nazi. Swastikas? That's their thing, right?" Duo tilted, then shook his head. "Sort of ancient history for me, but-- it's major enough that it's remembered even in history classes of my era. And anyway, this guy named Bucky had explained it to me, the details, when we were going after him."
Re: 2
He also won't tell Duo that he doesn't need a guide to go around New York City, that's why he chose it over Los Angeles, it's closer so they can take a day trip from Pennsylvania and it's more familiar so he'll know what to expect if they want to replicate this little experiment in LA. "We'll have to go sometime after the election." And if he wins, uh, maybe not anytime terribly soon. Sorry Duo. Can't be looking too suspicious like shutting down all the beaches and then visiting a beach.
Re: 2
The seriousness of his expression softens a little as they drive away from that subject and onto the election. "Yeah, 'course. You're pretty busy, huh?" Duo relaxes his posture again, hands in his pockets. "Gonna be moreso if you win. Say, what do you think about your chances, so far? Against Wayne, I mean." His smirk sharpens just a touch. "Just to be perfectly clear: I'm not here to spy on that front. I don't mess with democracy."
Re: 2
"Anyway, I don't think I know him. You didn't catch his name?" He tries to go through his mental rolodex of all his kill targets...
Re: 2
He frowns at the mention of the last election. He'd have to look into that.
"Nope. Don't think he had a name- just... Major! That was it. The Major." He quirks a brow- Erik seemed awfully interested in the guy... "You dunno him? Or does he remind you of someone...?"
Re: 2
"But tell me, what makes you say that? Why shouldn't we be relied upon?"
Re: 2
His expression goes a little grim. "...Because of impermanence. You said you been here... a couple years now, yeah?" Duo shifts. "Even I was only there for a year before, and I saw so many come and go. So many plans come together and fall apart. With the way the Porter is, where the leaders of movements can vanish without notice, imPort-led infrastructure will only cause chaos. This place- the natives have to learn to take control of their own peace and safety."
And that went for reforming this crooked government, too, but that was a different conversation.
Re: 2
"But so far it sounds like the City was an entirely different place with a completely separate political landscape. You'll see. It's not the same here."
Re: 2
Unless it was Lachesis who...
He tilts his head as he thinks on that. "It was, by a mile. But what I'm saying-- I'm basing this on what I've seen here. And what I've been told by others that have been here." He shakes his head. "...And yeah, some past experience, but some things are universal, if you ask me."
People couldn't let go of weapons and have true peace if they were afraid. And using imPorts as their personal guards wasn't going to lessen that fear. "But imPorts are only a half of that issue. Still, it's the one we're directly responsible for. So with regards to Ambassadorship, it's the one I'd be invested in, seeing how the votes fall."
Re: 2
"I'm not interested in that." Though, he does think there is an element of conscripted soldier-ism in training everyone, but he thinks it's more for betterment, for people to decide what they want to do with their skills. Not everyone who works out decides to become a sports player, after all.
Re: 2
"But that's why Wayne's ...league thing concerns me." And why he was leaning towards Erik. "And a few other of the agencies that have been formed here. They're not all that different from mercenarial or government agencies for use of imPorts."
Not that some of the non-government groups were any better. Some of them were worse. But he doesn't give away that he's thinking about that in his expression.
Re: 2
That's why this is hard, no one's perspective is the same and everyone's on a different paying field. Even Erik's world is just... starkly different, and everyone sort of operates as if they're remotely comparable. It's why it's hard to run-- everyone's giving him half pictures of what they want and no one knows what they need. Anyway.
"What do you think we should do for protection, then?"
Re: 2
"That said..." And Duo shifts another wary glance around the room. "...You wanna ask me about our "protection", my opinion is this: I don't particularly support the state this government is in, either. I think we should do what we can to support the groups closer to the ground- local police forces, hospitals, immediate beneficiaries of our help. But when it comes down to it, I think there is need of some serious reform."
"...I guess there is already imPort influence within the government proper, for what it's worth." Given how spread-out imPort opinions were, possibly little. One of these days, he would engage Senator Hundred in one of these little chats. But he hadn't been present long enough yet to go directly rooting around in the political arena. He had to watch things operate a little longer, observe, collect information. Any rash political movements on his part wouldn't be wise, nor helpful.
