FANPORT JUNE 2017

WHO: ImPorts!
WHERE:Nonah Convention Center
WHEN: June 23-25, from 9 AM - 12 AM every day.
WHAT: Registration is in motion alongside FanPort, the most popular imPort convention around! Come on in and see imPort-led panels, the artist's alley, cosplayers, and more! If you have any questions, or wish to amend the way we have written up your characters' panels, let us know here!
WARNINGS: None anticipated; please let us know if this should be changed.

Locals, imPorts, come one and all to FanPort, the annual gathering of imPorts and imPort enthusiasts! Registration volunteers are wrangling the long, long lines wrapping outside the convention center, but attendees are passing the time by competing in a contest sponsored by a local radion station: to create the best imPort-themed viral video clip and post it to social media! #PowersPower #Fandemonium #FanPortVIP

Unless they choose to mingle, as guests of honor, imPorts get to skip the line, receive a gold-trimmed IMPORTANT badge and be escorted through a secure entrance into the convention center proper. But there's no escaping the crowds once they're inside, you will be rubbing shoulders. This year's FanPort is seeing record attendance, and the venue is swarming with enthusiastic con-goers. Once they make their way past an impromptu welcoming committee of squealing fans, imPorts can explore...

ARTIST'S ALLEY

The bustling ballroom is full to brimming of fans selling their creative wares. Hundreds of prints are available for purchase, featuring everything from Magnus Burnsides striking a heroic pose to an artful portrait of Dandy Mott in his study, with his tie unknotted and dribbling down his front. There's even an action crossover depicting the Blue Beetle versus Iron Man, or Jesse Pinkman dancing with Reggie Mantle. Crossover time!

Other tables feature 3-D creations, with maskets full of keychains, buttons, T-shirts, homemade plushies and more. If you can dream of it, it probably exists, and it would be a challenge to name an imPort without some kind of creative representation!

Some artists and fanfiction writers have teamed up to create doujinshi about various imPort couples. imPorts who are known to be seeing each other are likely to see a drawn version of their relationship in this section, but there are also true rarepairs that go against canon, like Lapis Lazuli/Shale, Frederick Chilton/Sam Merlotte, Kitty Jones/John Murphy, Danny Pink/Mitchell Hundred, Jessica Jones/Laurie Collins, Han Solo/Luke Skywalker, Count Dooku/Archie and Rusty Venture/Sadie Doyle. And some of these books are sultry! Outright SHOCKING. You really must buy a few, if only as gifts.

If you don't see what you want being sold already, there are plenty of commissioners who would leap at the chance to provide an imPort with a custom print or doll, just for them! Although some of the dolls getting in the way of the big, popular ships may just be used as voodoo dolls, so watch out!

COSPLAY CONTEST

What's a fan convention without cosplay? There's not a single room in the convention center that lacks multiple cosplayers, but many of them are in it to win it at the cosplay contest. Some have gone to store after store to buy just the right street clothes to accurately portray imPorts like Daryl Dixon and April Ludgate, but others are up for a challenge and are showing off incredible armor creation or sewing work with their Riptide, Maeve Millay, Jean Grey, Petyr Baelish, Doreen Green, and Kanaya Maryam costumes.

And what of imPorts who want to join in? There are only two rules: imPorts may not enter as themselves, nice try jerks, and nor are they allowed to use shapeshifting powers. Other than that, they're welcome to join in on the competitions and the festivities! There are awards being given for everything from Best Performer to Best Costume to Most Accurate Posing, so jump in, and enjoy! ImPorts ARE free to give their own input (or imPut! Haha! So funny!)

IMPORT HALL

Aside from the panels, this is where imports are welcomed as special guests! Above the entire affair is a huge sign that reads, cheerfully: "WELCOME IMPORTS!". Here, imPorts are welcomed to set up their own booths to sell their goods, autographs, and pictures, advertise their businesses, or to simply meet some of their fans! A special photo-op booth is available for imPorts who are game for one-on-one meetings but don't want to set up a booth. Security is tightest around this area, but only for the safety of imPorts; if any fans get a little too touchy-feely without the imPort's consent, rest assured, they'll be hauled out in short notice. There is also a special demonstration area, marked off with cones, where imPorts may show off crowd-appropriate powers for some oohs and aahs.

This is also the place where willing and participating imPorts are showered with special gifts featuring everything from fanmade scrapbooks of their public exploits and fanart, home baked goods, or samples from all sorts of corporate representatives eager to have imPorts represent everything from their makeup lines to their gas-buster pills.

REFRESHMENTS

Forget the generic, slightly stale burgers and fries most commonly found at convention centers. Just outside the venue is a series of imPort-inspired food trucks and stalls. Ready for some Persephone Paprikash? What about some Emmett Brown-ies for dessert? Delicious! And we can't forget the line of So Carbonated They'll Make You Tina Belcher craft sodas. imPorts get a discount if they show of their tattoos to prove they're not just fantastic cosplayers!

DESIGN-YOUR-OWN POWER STATION

This year's FanPort has a special charity room for imPorts who feel like doing some community outreach. Long-term patients at Nonah Children's Hospital who are well enough to travel have been brought to the con, where imPorts who sign up to volunteer will help them dream up their own powers, design their own superhero costume and dress up using a wardrobe of donated costume parts. Each child can then pose in front of a green screen with their favorite imPort to create a superhero team-up!

RAVE

The first two nights of the convention, attendees can get their groove on after hours! The grand hall is opened up to various imPort inspired acts, such as the Woden-inspired Welcome to Valhalla, the Yurio Plisetsky-inspired Ice Ice Babies, and the Stark family-inspired Kings of the North. All of these shows are complete with light shows and complimentary glow sticks, and once the clock hits past 9 PM, a bar opens up in the back for natives and imPorts alike, provided that they're of-age — and yes, they will be checking their IDs!

Want to get your rock on? These acts will gracefully step aside to allow imPort musicians to take the stage, but will respond even more happily to jam sessions.

'Well, I was born after Scarif had been turned into a wasteland by a rebel attack, just a day before Alderaan was removed from the galactic map so no, I've never been there," he remarked with an amused smirk though his eyes remained hard.

He was starting to understand why Tarkin had chosen Alderaan, a planet with little military significance, to destroy. It had been the heart of the rebellion in so many ways and Tarkin had ripped that out in a moment, just like Hux had ripped out the heart and soul of the Republic by destroying the Hosnian System. He wondered if Tarkin had felt that same rush of having literally shaped the galaxy in an effort to restore order to the galaxy as he had.

"But I did hear it was lovely as well. It was a posting that many Imperial officers wanted since it was supposed to be well-protected and with little threat of a rebel attack. It's not a lovely place now, it's mostly just a wasteland and all those lovely beaches are gone as well as the vast database." All that research had been tragically. Garrisons could be replaced, research was much more difficult to replicate.

She'd seen the explosion of Alderaan. Not with her own eyes, per se, but rather via Han's memories, the first day she'd gotten here and he'd extended a gesture of kindness for another vagrant from their galaxy. She'd almost screamed out the first time she'd realized what had happened, but now - she barely flinches at the casual mention of the decimation of an entire planet.

She shouldn't be surprised. Imperials were all the same, weren't they? She remembers Commander Solange at Five Points, how she'd snarled and gritted her teeth at the mere insinuation that her own bad choices (namely, gambling herself into astronomical debt) had the power to keep her from rising the ranks. Because that's what mattered; that's what was important. Of course. They're all alike, the lot of them.

But if Jyn had any doubt, the series of thoughts that trickle through afterwards seal the deal. Thrill at murdering stars know how many people? Thrill at stealing their life force, at silencing their screams, at destroying dreams and hopes and families? Children? She clenches her jaw so hard it feels like her teeth might shatter under the pressure.

"That's the thing, getting so confident about being fortified and impenetrable. It's almost never entirely true." She wants to scream about how she knows the whole planet's been destroyed, how she'd been destroyed along with it. But that's revealing far too much, to a man she'd rather not reveal anything to.

So much research lost on Scarif all because Tarkin and that program director whatshisname were idiots. At least we recovered Celestial Power and much of Erso's research eventually. A small comfort.

"Indeed. The Emperor was so confident about his first Death Star-" and the second....ugh. "-that he and Tarkin did not take the necessary precautions. But you can rest assured that there won't be any more Death Stars." There was nothing nice about the smirk on his lips and in his mind were the shadows of things far bigger, far more dangerous than either of the Death Stars.

"So what about you? Did you join the Rebellion to revenge Jedha?" Could she be the Erso the damn droid had mentioned? Hm. He knew little about Galen Erso and hadn't recognized anyone by the name of Jyn. He doubted that Jyn was just some distant cousin twice removed, at least.

Krennic. The Man in White, she thinks, filling in the blanks he seems not to care about. But then - there it is. Mention of her last name; the real one, not the one she'd stolen and adapted for her own purposes (though, she thinks, Hadder wouldn't have argued all that much about her having taken on his last name; he'd probably be less than thrilled to have her donning his dead sister's first name, though). Her eyes flinch in a microexpression of a strange mix of emotions; curiosity, sadness, anger, regret. Most notably absent from her features, despite the fact that she probably should be feeling something like it, is fear.

One eyebrow twitches at the thought of a second Dear Star. Safe to assume that the second's been destroyed as well (she wonders if someone had figured out how to put the same flaw in the thing that her father had put into the first, but bites the tip of her tongue to keep any sort of question from blurting out). She remembers the conversation they'd shared on the network, how he'd talked about "solving the issues" of the Death Star. She catches the ghost of what he'd meant, but none of it is clear enough to know for certain.

Her throat tightens; he's trying to fit together the pieces of the "Jyn Erso" Kay had mentioned and the woman sitting before him, hands neatly folded next to a sign advertising Neojedha.

"I hadn't been given a choice other than joining," she replies cooly. "It was that or rot in -" Kriff, don't say Wobani. "- on my own."

He didn't hide his surprise, raising his eyebrows. The Rebellion did forced recruitment? Interesting, for all their self-righteous bantha shit they spew, the more I learn about them the more I learn they are even worse than the Republic they sought to restore. Thank the Emperor I succeeded and the Empire triumphed in the end. Granted the First Order took children to program but he knew the Emperor had used recruits after the clones.

"I was unaware they forced anyone into their ranks. That is simply awful," he shook his head with a soft tsk of disapproval. "Yet you are still loyal to them- why?" There was a personal motivation that kept her in their ranks even here and he wanted to know what it was. If she is related to Erso, why wouldn't she be proud to serve the Empire? The Death Star failed but in its time it was a triumph of technology and engineering. It was confusing and he felt as if he was missing a big piece of the puzzle.

"Sitting here advertising something with the name of Jedha.....you're not just loyal to the Rebellion, you have a personal connection to it."

Jyn had hated the Rebellion almost as much as she hated the Empire. A big "almost," but almost nonetheless. It didn't matter whose banner was flying overhead, it didn't matter what cause people claimed to defend if the end result was death no matter what. She thinks of Hadder, of Akshaya - of their exploding freighter, the energy of which pushed her little planet hopper into hyperdrive. How she didn't know it'd been their ship, whether it'd been taken down by a TIE or by a U-Wing. How, ultimately, it didn't matter. The end result was the same: they were nothing more than stardust, than fragments and molecules of the whole, wonderful, loving people they'd once been.

But the biggest distinction between the Rebellion and the Empire, for Jyn, was their greater goal. One sought to bring about "peace" through forced obedience, fear, and control. The other sought freedom for the galaxy. That's what contributed to the rather large chasm of "almost."

"No worse than the Empire," she retorts. What gall this man had, to lift his nose up at the Rebellion for doing something the Empire did, and worse. "It isn't so much about the Rebellion as a whole as it is the people. The people of the Rebellion, the pilots, the fighters. The people of Jedha who'd been doing nothing but living their lives before the Empire destroyed them all." The little girl screaming in the market floats through her mind's eye again. "It isn't any more personal than it would be for anyone else with a modicum of a conscience." Which you apparently don't seem to have.

"Well, all that is gone now. All the people of the Rebellion, everything the Rebellion was, have been destroyed" For a split moment, there is the image of x-wings coming down from a clouded sky through rain, the ground rocking beneath his feet before it's gone just as quickly as it came, replaced by the image of red fire streaming across the galaxy. There are no ashes, no bodies left to mourn over. It's over.

There is no flicker of any kind of sorrow or sadness in his thoughts, nothing but cold anger and hatred for the Republic and the Rebellion. But that was moved to the back of his mind as he looked at Jyn.

He leaned over to take a pen and a piece of paper from the table, taking a moment to write out a message. "I have to ask a favor of you- I need to pass a message along to someone you may know and I hope you are able to help me with that."

With neat and precise handwriting he wrote out the note in Aurebesh- 'Jyn Erso- any relation to Galen Erso, by any chance?' before folding it and handing it to her. If she was Jyn, he would see a reaction and if not, the real Jyn would know that he was aware of that he knew she was here.

Either way, he was interested in knowing just how she was related to the Death Star even if it had long since been reduced to space dust. "I wish you the best of luck with this- what exactly is your business?"

Jyn catalogues every memory, every trace of thought she's able to pick up. She'll relay the details of them later to Cassian and to Kay. She attempts to dislodge the lump that's formed in her throat with a hard swallow, but it doesn't do the trick. There's no doubt, not even an atom's worth, that this man is an Imperial Officer. One doesn't feel or think those things - that utter disregard for human life, for the Rebellion, for true freedom of the galaxy - unless they've been programmed and raised within the dark shadow of the Empire.

She quirks a brow as he writes, then reluctantly takes the paper from him. She glances down at it only briefly, but if were astute enough, he'd see the flicker of something in the jade stardust swirling about in her eyes when she lifts them back to his face. Something like recognition, something like disgust, something like sorrow. Even if the exact emotion isn't clear, it'd be obvious to the careful observer that the message has struck some kind of chord within her.

"I believe the term for this world is called a 'dojo.'" She has no intention of explaining it to him, but instead gathers a pamphlet and hands it to him. "Hopefully this isn't too much reading for you, if you're curious about the concept."

Well, hello there, Jyn Erso, I believe. He was experienced in learning to read others, it was what had enabled him to survive for him so long and he picked up her reaction. But he only smirked as he set down the pen, satisfied.

"Have her get back to me, will you? I'm sure we have much to chat about." He wanted to know why an Erso would want to work with the Rebellion unless she broke with Galen and had disowned him in some way. Either way, it was curious.

He took the pamphlet with a little surprise. Granted, a business was public and he would have been able to look up the location but he was still surprised that she handed him the information so freely. She didn't strike him as stupid but it was still an interesting move. "I will have to look through it, certainly. I wish you the best of luck in your business venture- ah, I'm afraid I forgot your name."

"Will do if I can figure out who she is," she replies, folding the piece back up to slip into her pocket. She has a feeling he's already pegged her true identity, but no harm in continuing the charade in case he hasn't. Or, at least, to spread some doubt in his head and wipe that kriffing smirk off of his face.

"Can't forget something you never got, can you?" It's the first time in this interaction that she smiles, but there's no joy or altruism behind it. "Tanith Ponta." The name rolls off her tongue as easily as her real name would; in fact, it might slip off even easier than Jyn Erso does. She's a convincing act, convincing enough that, when she was thrown into Wobani, it had been under one of her other aliases, Liana Hallik; no one had any idea she was truly Jyn Erso.

"I have faith in your resourcefulness," he said with amusement as he tucked the pamphlet into an inner coat of his greatcoat.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Tanith Ponta." He didn't recognize the alias, he doubted he would, but he did notice how easily she said it. His smirk didn't fade, however, he knew how easy lying got eventually. It came so easily to him, he never thought about it anymore. "I'm sure we'll run into each other again so until then, Ms. Ponta."

And with that he turned on his heel, making his way back into the crowd.
