MAY 18 - 25
STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR
THE LOVE BUNNY
DE CHIMA

Wherever you happen to be in De Chima, as long as there's an elevator around, it's fair game. Are you visiting a friend in an apartment complex? Visiting a set of offices? Getting your teeth checked out? Or maybe there's a really rad, hidden comic book store you heard about on the top floor of the highest building in town! Whatever the reason, in the lobby, you'll see someone who looks like she's cosplaying, and having an absolute blast doing so. It's not entirely clear what she's cosplaying as, but nobody would dress like that on an everyday basis, right...?

If you write her off without thinking much about it, that wouldn't be much of a surprise; she's as innocuous as they get. She's a young, blonde woman - probably a teenager, though it's hard to tell - with her hair pulled into high pigtails, bangs pulled back with a headband with two bright pink bunny ears perched atop her head. The rest of her outfit is just as outrageously pink, a tight corset over a white t-shirt, a pleated pink skirt, go-go boots and thick black leggings with a bright pink wand (complete with a plastic bunny head attached to the tip) clutched tightly in one hand. Honestly, she looks to be a bit of a wreck, but that's only to be expected from someone young flexing their costume making skills for the first time.

It's only after you glide past her and onto the elevator that you realize that something's wrong. Halfway through your ascent or descent, the entire thing shudders, the lights flicker, and the gears slowly grind to a halt. The speaker in the elevator comes to life, somehow, and a bright, cheery giggle fills the elevator.

"Stop in the name of love! You've been caught byyyyyyyy... The Love Bunny! Cute, right? Just like me! I wish you could see how cute I am, but that would defeat the point, so you'll just have to take my word for it. The world's become such a dreary place, hasn't it? We spend so much time staring down at our phones that we never take the chance to look at each other, and find our one true loves!" She sighs, a dreamy, faraway sound. "Oh, but don't worry - I don't expect you to have to kiss. All sorts of love is beautiful, even if romance is the pinnacle of all love. I'm not letting you out, so you might as well try to get along! Toodles!"

If your characters don't manage to get out by the one hour mark, the speakers will come to life once again, this time with a distinct pout in the Love Bunny's voice. "Oh, poo, you're no fun. But I'm a hero, not a villain, so it's not like I'd trap you in there forever. Go on, and live your sad little loveless lives - just know that I'm rooting for you! Bye-byeeeee!" And with that, the building's electricity will come back to life, and your characters will be freed once more.

MAY 18 - 25
MUSICAL MAYHEM
The Copacabana Conductor
Maurtia Falls

Feel that fascinating rhythm moving to your feet? Feel your ass gyrating to that titillating beat? The answer is yes, yes you do. Whether you wanted to or not. The normally dangerous streets of Maurtia Falls have taken on an even more treacherous edge (for your dignity, at least). It started with a sudden, sharp up-tick in what appeared to be street performers. Then a couple acapella flash mobs. Some questioned whether acapella flash mob is even a thing, but who knows? Maybe some particularly deranged imPort brought the craze with them. The strange man skipping around in spandex with hand-drawn musical notes all over it seems suspect, especially since he's always clutching that tacky little recorder close to his chest, but it’s hard to tell these days. The middle of the month always has so many odd new imPorts arriving.

Towards the middle of the day, the news has changed from reporting these sightings as some strange performance art in the city to declaring them a clear act of super-powered malice, accompanied only by - you guessed it - the shrill piping of a recorder, inducting all around them into spontaneous song-and-dance. ImPorts with particularly good hearing may hear a shrill voice cheering, "there's no day but today for this!" or "enough of the classics; it's time to get thoroughly modern!" or, particularly irritatingly, "All I ask of you is to stand up!"

The fact the news anchors sing this report just underscores the present menace (you know what we mean). The majority of people seem to be performing their day to day while acting out numbers based on famous musicals, but any tune and dance sequence people can manage (or not, as the many petty thieves singing to Oliver! horribly screech as you pass by) is fair game, from country to pop to Klingon Opera.

Particularly news obsessed imPorts may notice that all this musical fanfare was first reported happening near the Maurtia Falls City Stage Theater. Investigators better be ready to put on their best Javert, however, as there’s no avoiding facing (and joining in) the music as you get closer to the heart of the problem.

MAY 18
ZOO(TLOOSE)
Doctor Dolots
Nonah

Police sirens aren’t that uncommon a sound, unfortunately. However, the occasional lion’s roar and outraged peacock squawk piercing through the familiar noise is a new one. Hover cars have surrounded the Nonah zoo, as much keeping the gawking public out as they are trying (and often failing) at keeping the loose animals in. Only imPorts are allowed to pass the tape line to approach the unusual threat. Known unregistered and even vigilante or villain imPorts are given the side-eye, but not questioned (what, are they going to give the tigers nightmares?), but registered imPorts are giving a bit of a heads up by the local civil servants. They aren’t sure if it’s a victim or the cause, but a lieutenant heard loud sobbing from inside the cave of the black bear enclosure before he was forced out by a crowd of vengeful lemurs. Anyone that doesn't want to have to directly deal with Nonah’s finest and head into the zoo itself still has plenty to do, however. Only a fraction of the animals have successfully been kept inside.

Behind the tape and in neighboring areas of the city everything is, well, a zoo. Animals are running everywhere. Elephants are competing with orangutans for fresh boiled peanuts, while otters have taken over public restrooms and are having the time of their lives playing with the automatic toilets. There has also been a disturbing team up of lions, tigers, and polar bears, while cheetahs race past them towards the most appealing prey of zebra, moose, and people.

It will be better for imPort public image to capture rather than harm the animals, but at the end of the day the choice is yours.

MAY 25
WATER WORLD
Marina
Heropa

Sun and fun often bring shouts of delight, but the cries ringing out over the waves are from panic. The equipment keeping the Oceania party platform and artificial reef has malfunctioned due to the excessive weight — social scenester Evan Caulfield's party has way too many guests to celebrate his 25th birthday, it seems! A few nearby pleasure craft approach the site of the sinking soiree, but they just don't have the capacity to bring everyone aboad.

Word quickly reaches the shore, filtered through social media from all the selfies attendees are taking — #sinking #help #thewetlook — and emergency services urge any heroes in the area to come and help.

The scene is chaotic, but just off the shore, a tall, muscular Hispanic woman in her early 40s climbs to the top of a yacht and shouts to get everyone's attention. Decked out in a bright wetsuit that could be a superhero's costume or a fashionable diving outfit, she pumps a fist into the air. "Come on, everyone! We've got to come together and save these people!"

With that, she dives into the water and starts swimming freakishly fast toward the disaster site. She never seems to come up for air, but when she does surface to aid the bewildered partiers, she does a great job making sure they don't go under.

Well, hero? What are you waiting for?

[Wow, Jyn sure is... trying. Or making more of an attempt than he thought she'd go for. For a second, Kay feels like there might be a chance, an actual small glimmer of hope.

He waits for a moment, looking up at the elevator ceiling, as if waiting for an answer, and one comes!

The speakers come to life with the sound of the Love Bunny blowing a raspberry into the speaker, along with claims that she could tell how absolutely fake that was.

Kay immediately pounds his fist into the wall of the elevator, leaving behind a rather large dent, and getting back to his feet. He's quiet for a few more seconds before he speaks up, sounding genuine in his disappointment.
]

I'm sorry, Jyn. There was a low chance it could work, but I thought it would be worth trying.

[Jyn's eyes flinch only slightly at the slamming of Kay's fist into the wall. She surveys the damage and wonders how much has been done to the structural integrity of the thing.]

I'll never be able to take those words back ever again. [Her voice is monotone, but there's an underlying sense of sarcastic humor under there. She's .. mostly surprised that he apologized.] It wasn't a bad plan. It was worth trying.

[personal profile] reexamined 2017-05-23 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I would offer to wipe the past three minutes for your benefit, but I'm not allowed to.

[Maybe a bit of dry sarcasm back, although it doesn't take away the lingering chagrin in his tone.]

I don't have too many good ideas left. They either involve more dangerous situations, or waiting. I was hoping to avoid either.
kestreldawn: ([hopeful] rebellions are built on hope)

[personal profile] kestreldawn 2017-05-23 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The fact you'd offer is enough.

[She sighs, glancing back up at the hatch on the ceiling. She gestures towards it with a lift of her brows.] Shall we?
reexamined: (009)

[personal profile] reexamined 2017-05-24 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
[ He glances up. ]

No.

I know you're thinking "oh, I'll just go of the lift's carriage, fuss with the control panel, and then everything will work again," but there's a chance that one, the Love Bunny hasn't stopped this lift via the control panel's circuitry and through her own powers somehow, and two, if you did reset the lift, if the carriage hasn't been properly braked, that could cause it to immediately ramp up to the top floor, and crush you.

[ Yeah, he's real fun at parties. ]

Explaining you died in a turbolift accident to Cassian would be miserable.
kestreldawn: ([look] outside of the cell)

[personal profile] kestreldawn 2017-05-24 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
[She folds her arms across her chest as he speaks, then sighs.]

If people can even die here, you mean.

So, what's the alternative? Stay stuck in here for another however-many-minutes and .. sit in silence? Talk? Stare at each other emptily?
reexamined: (011)

[personal profile] reexamined 2017-05-24 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
They can. You'll still die. You'll just also come back.

[ And still not a thing he wants to explain. ]

If I would be able to go with you on top of the lift, I could at least provide support. But I can't. So all three other solutions, I would qualify as better alternatives.

[ Maybe learn about each others feelings. ]
kestreldawn: ([hopeful] rebellions are built on hope)

[personal profile] kestreldawn 2017-05-24 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh kriff. Not feelings.

She makes a bit of a face as she slides down the length of the wall of the lift, plopping at the bottom with her arms still folded across her chest.

She stares at him before looking to the hatch again.
] I could probably get up there on my own. Sort of did something similar escaping the data vault on Scarif.

But [She sighs heavily] in the event that I get flattened due to a malfunction, I'll spare you having to explain it to Cassian.
reexamined: (004)

[personal profile] reexamined 2017-05-25 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

[He pauses for a moment, watching her take a seat on the floor of the elevator, and then he proceeds to do the same. It's a lot more awkward, and he needs to keep his legs bent at the knee, but he manages.]

I don't actually know what happened... after I locked you in the data vault. I know the end result, obviously. But neither of you told me what happened before then. ...I suppose it doesn't actually matter, in the end.
kestreldawn: ([cassian] at the end of all things)

[personal profile] kestreldawn 2017-05-25 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[She quietly considers him for a few moments before glancing down towards her hands.] We climbed. Well .. I climbed.

Krennic showed up as we were climbing up the tower. Shot Cassian off, sent his body sinking down onto a platform below us. He hit a number of beams on his way down. It was - I don't think I'll ever forget the sound.

[Her voice follows a somewhat robotic pattern of recall, most of it too painful to fully feel.] But I climbed. At the top, there was this - hatch. Opened and closed every few seconds with these metal blades. Probably some sort of security mechanism, but - I managed to propel myself through. Ended up at the top, where the satellite was. It'd been damaged, knocked out of alignment. So I had to get to the controls at the end of a suspended catwalk to re-align it, re-position it. The TIEs and Rebellion were dogfighting overhead, shot out the bridge while I was crossing it.

And - then Krennic showed out of the turbolift. Pointed a blaster at me. But at the moment he was going to shoot, he was shot.

By Cassian.

Who'd somehow managed to clamor his way up to the top of the tower the way I did. I have no idea how, given his injuries. He could .. he could barely stand, barely hold the pistol up. He needed two hands to do it. But Krennic fell, I ran to the main console of the satellite to transmit the plans. [She can hear the echoing of the electronic woman's voice, "TRANSMITTING."] I wanted to finish Krennic myself, take back everything he'd taken from me but - Cassian stopped me. Wouldn't let me lose that part of my humanity at the end.

We knew we weren't getting off the planet. So .. we took the turbolift down to the beach until I couldn't support his weight anymore, by the shore, and .. waited. Together. Knelt in the sand and held each other until the light took us both.

[She raises her eyes to his face and offers the faintest, saddest of smiles.] We didn't even know if the Rebellion received the plans. We didn't know if the shield gate was taken down, if Bodhi had been successful in boosting the signal. But .. we did as you said. We climbed.

[Kay doesn't wince, can't wince, but he does flinch just slightly upon hearing her describe remembering the sound of Cassian falling from such a great height. At this point, he must have been permanently shutdown, as she describes what happened after he told them to climb. He didn't have the time, as he was being shot at, to simulate scenarios that involved him escaping with them to climb the tower. He only had time to run the necessary ones... and then one extraneous one. The one where Cassian somehow lived, despite the unlikeliness of it all.

He listens to the rest of Jyn's explanation, imaging it in more detail than a human could. He's aware of the floorplans, of where stormtroopers were station, of how difficult it must of been.

Of course Cassian had climbed his way up, even after being shot, even with everything that had happened. Determined is a word he would have always used to describe Cassian, in just about everything he did. Sometimes that wasn't a good thing, but he'd never say it wasn't a personal trait.

The rest falls into place, as fate would have it, despite how impossible it seemed at the time.
]

Thank you.

[He says again, meaning it. Even if it isn't nice information, it's nice to know.]

There was a very small chance of Bodhi succeeding in getting through to the fleet. But I knew he would.

[ "Knew" in the way he knew that there was really a less than ten percent chance the pilot would get the message Cassian, get the cords in the right place, run the cables without the cables being damaged, not get shot by miscellaneous gunfire, and make sure the right switches were hit. It was asking a lot from a cargo pilot who found himself locked into this suicide mission by some convincing words from Jyn's father. ]

The chances of things happening in certain ways- people meeting, circumstances lining up, situations occurring... Sometimes they're very common or even unavoidable. But other times... the likelihood of those events ending up the way they do is infinitesimal.

[ Kay tilts his head, and looks up at the fluorescent-lit ceiling. What an awful form of light. ]

I am glad that... you and Cassian have each other.
kestreldawn: ([surprise] alert)

[personal profile] kestreldawn 2017-05-28 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Jyn's a bit surprised and taken aback by his gratitude, but she nods all the same, acknowledging it. She can understand; had the positions been reversed, she would've wanted to have known how it had played out, too. She still does, of the others in the group. She has no idea what happened to them after they'd landed on Scarif.

She shares a bit of a lopsided smile at the mention of Bodhi.
]

He said he wanted to do the right thing, so long as he followed what was in his heart, didn't he? I knew he would do it, too, even if it had been nearly impossible for him to do so. He wouldn't have given up easily.

[Color Jyn surprised again at that admission. Both brows lift simultaneously as she stares at him, giving a passing glance to the light that's drawn his attention overhead, before looking at him again. One brow lowers, leaving the other raised.]

.... It feels like there's a second part to that statement, following a "but .." Is there?

We had spoken briefly back on Eadu. He certainly had an interesting way with words.

[ The memory vivid, as it would be from a computer's mind.

"No, listen. I need you to trust me, all right? You need to follow my lead and not say anything unless someone asks you to."

"Trust is a matter of degree. I really don't know you, Bodhi Rook."

"You do know me. Look- you, me." Bodhi jabbed his finger at the Imperial emblem on the droid's arm, then at the identical symbol on his flight suit. "We've both got them, and we're both here anyway. We both want to stop the Death Star, right? Both want to help the Rebellion?"

Kaytoo remained silent.

"Cassian reprogrammed you, right? Maybe? You're loyal to him, I get that. Galen Erso reprogrammed me. We can still get this mission right, and we want the same thing, but you have to let me lead the way..."

"All right, then."
]

There is.

[ But does he want to say it? ]
kestreldawn: ([sadness] disappointed)

[personal profile] kestreldawn 2017-05-30 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
[It doesn't take much for Jyn to pick up the memory like a receptive comm tower. Her eyes might go a bit glossy as it comes through, and if Kay remembers their first in-person encounter after their arrival, the sight would look familiar.

Internally, Jyn could weep at the familiar sound of Bodhi's voice. The rasp of it, the gentleness of it. As though he feared to speak too loud lest he upset the creatures, the air, the molecules around him.

He'd deserved so much better.

And to think, none of it - absolutely no single part of their mission - would've happened had he not found the courage, the strength to do what he did. She won't give the credit to her father for perhaps giving some sort of rousing speech in secret - though he very well could have. No, she'll give all of the credit, and then some, to Bodhi. He deserves that, at the very least.

When she comes back after the memory's ended, she blinks a handful of times. She considers him with a more focused gaze.
]

Which is .. ?

[ He lowers his gaze to look at her as she remains silent for a while, and yes, he does recognize that look. Maybe if it had been a more personal thought, he would have minded it. But he doesn't, in this case. He likes sharing the memory of Bodhi.

And ugh, she sure is pursuing this line of questioning, huh. Much like Cassian had. Well, he can't exactly deny it, and they're both stuck here. ]

The reasons for my reactions to you is because I was continuing to interpret you as a threat. Not to Cassian specifically, but to my purpose in his life.

[That's ...

Surprisingly honest a confession.

Jyn isn't exactly sure how to react or how to interpret the sudden display of somewhat visceral honesty from him. Both brows peak slightly as she studies his face as though she could find some hint of expression there to interpret, realizing too late that doing so is folly.

She glances down towards the ground, then, focusing on no particular spot, but letting her gaze fall somewhere by one of her feet.
]

I .. appreciate your honesty, Kay. [And, since he's already shared something a bit personal, she might as well do the same.] I don't want to be a threat to anyone's way of of life or their purpose in it. Even yours. [Hueueue.] He still needs you. He'll always need you. He can only deal with people, myself included, for so long. But - But I hope that we can figure out a .. middle ground. For both of us.
