weep not for the memories

WHO: Everybody!
WHERE: all cities
WHEN: March 4 - March 6
WHAT: it's a catch-all log, sucka! Tag here and thread around for the Dorian Ruins Everything Guilt Extravaganza part of the overall March plot. Please check out this ooc post for details!
WARNINGS: Traumatic memories. Possible talk of murder, death, blood, other nasty things. I'll try to update if the warnings needed but please use content warnings if it gets super nasty!

It starts off on March 4th, the early morning before the sun's even risen. You know those weird mirages that were hanging around the day before? Well now it's getting a little personal.

These mirages come and go seemingly for no reason. They might stay for a minute, they might stay for an hour. The images vary between person but the unifying factor is that the mirages consist of people the player characters have hurt, whether people in-game or from their homes. Whether they murdered them, slandered them, or even had a petty little argument, the unifying factor is the guilt each character feels towards or about this mirage. After all, you know you hurt them somehow. You know their existence somehow makes you feel guilty.

Another unifying factor? The creepy way these mirages just seem to stick to you. They'll follow you if you try to leave, staring you down with their creepy unblinking mirage eyes. And whoops: everybody can see said mirages. Hopefully you're not being stalked by someone you and somebody else both know, wouldn't that be awkward?

Have fun confronting your traumatizing past and/or wondering why your buddy's got some creepy ghost guy following him, imPorts!

( ooc: this is a catch-all log! Make starters of your characters getting haunted by their creepy mirages, have other people react to said creepy mirages, ???, profit. Hit me up on the ooc post if you have any questions! )

[ In the end, Theon knows that he can’t be forgiven. He made too many of the wrong decisions, moved too far from the man he thought he was, but there’s no undoing those things now. All the same, he never expected this to be the way it all ended.

When this is all over, Theon may have to rethink how much he really hates Jon. He definitely does hate him, but perhaps he doesn’t despise him after all. Jon has been helpful enough, filling him in on details, informing him of Ramsay’s death, and even making some attempt to help now.
]

I don’t need to be reminded of what I’ve done. I think about it every night. I dream about it. It never stops.

[ This is perhaps the most open he’s ever been about the guilt he harbors. He can’t recall the last time he’s slept without a nightmare, and he can’t remember what it’s like to live without the weight of all his sins on his shoulders. ]

If I'm to reflect on my betrayals, there should be more here than just him.

[It was a strange day to find himself sympathizing and agreeing with Theon. He wasn't the only man that felt he had strayed far from who he had been and carried the sins of his past on his shoulders. One look to Ygritte and he was only reminded of his betrayals, no better than Theon's and bearing a similar end.

Jon doesn't want to consider how similar both he and Theon are. He wants to hold on to that anger and blame him for all that the Starks he suffered, but it was hard to make Theon into a monster when he appeared broken in the same way Jon felt.]

It won't ever stop, it will only grow worse.

[He speaks from his own experience rather than as an accusation against Theon.]

He is the one you feel more sharply. It is why I see her.

[The Wildling woman hadn't strayed far from his side. Her eyes still pained and accusing, as frightening to behold as Robb. Gods, but it would drive him mad soon enough.]

[ For the first time, Theon takes note of the Wildling woman. He regards her with bloodshot eyes, wondering what Jon could have done to earn such a cold and accusing stare. ]

Do you speak from experience?

[ Like Jon, Theon doesn’t want to admit how similar they may be to one another. He’s harbored too much hatred for Jon over the years to let go of it so easily, but he can admit that perhaps Jon does know more about how Theon feels than he initially realized. ]

If I could, I would let him kill me. It's his duty. It's a better fate than seeing his face in my nightmares every night until I die by some other means.

[He doesn't know how much he wants to share with Theon. While there seemed to be an understanding that passed between them, it wasn't enough to make Jon trust him with the matters that weighed on his mind.]

There are things I have done that I regret.

[And would always regret.]

You look for a craven's way out. Live with the things you have done. You owe Robb that much. You will never repair what you have done, but you will at least learn from it.

[It strikes him as both sickening and strange that he is offering Theon advice. Perhaps it is because death is a topic he doesn't prefer? It was hard to say, but this was a day of strange things.]
